  • Actually, I tried to make a way to cock it with the handle, but it wasn't possible within this design. 😩
    -------------------------------------------
    Long time no see, everyone!
I ran out of ideas on what to do with ethanol. So, I deviated a bit from playing with ethanol, and tried making something that mixes a bit of the medieval with some modern technology.
    Because, well, it's just fun.
Don't try to find a reason in this. Usually, I don't even know myself.
Oh, and this is a very early design, so there are many features not yet implemented. Therefore, I'm not planning to "yet" release the files.

a way to add a solution for the string is either to add a pump action cocker to the upper frame (similar to a mp5 charging handle but instead of it being where the locking position is up at the rear, it would be at the front and would be in the locked position when the string is in the ready to fire position. This would allow the string catching claw to be out of the way when firing but still be usable for drawing the string back, though it might require a bit of reworking to the string catch at the rear to allow it to properly cycle.) or to add a system where the entire upper frame acts as a lever for drawing the string back. (this would probably be easier to do but has several drawbacks to doing it, namely it would throw off the accuracy of the sights, as well as having a higher potential for breaking.)

      Who cares about accuracy???

I would go with a compound lever.
The primary arm of the lever should be the entire length of the upper frame, should hinge at the rear, and stow to the front.
The secondary lever should have hooks for the string and be the length of the string travel, and should attach to the primary such that in the stowed position, the hooks are just ahead of the string.
Cocking would involve pulling the primary lever up and rearward. This should give an average mechanical advantage of a bit better than three to one, since the hooks will travel 1x the length of the string stroke (which appears to be half the frame length), but the handle will travel 0.5pi * frame length.

That could work! You could also have something along the lines of an early Thompson/Uzi charging handle as well, with the charging handle on top of the rail, or even a non reciprocating charging handle like on a BAR, or AR pattern rifle (Not that it reciprocates while firing but I think it would be cool 😄)

I think something like the stock as cocking lever system like in the Ar6 stinger by Steambow could work

Idea: Six limbs, six strings, rotating gear that releases the strings as part of the action.

      Dooooo it.
You would need to give it a buff over normal crossbows, like not requiring a bonus action to load

this is kinda close to what my YT channel would look like if i had a 3d printer XD

The setup for making good looking and sounding videos is wayyy more expensive than a 3D printer. The real cost is the time it takes you to learn CAD. Well worth it tho.

Perhaps, you might want to develop a lever cocking for the crossbow to increase firing rate, just like Zhuge nu or skyrim crossbow, or you might want to check out the concept of instant legolas

I would incorporate the "Hammer" into a cocking mechanism but i guess that would require Sturdier material i know there are crossbows that use a lever to arm the weapon

I would recommend switching to eyeglass screws. They are cheap, You can buy thousands for like a few bucks. They hold just as good as those but will also need a screw thread tap too.

Don't feel too bad about not finding a solution to cocking at the time. After all, they couldn't have invented the double-action revolver without first inventing the single-action, and you've already at the stage in development.

I think a bolt handle or pump action to charge the string would be nice. Thats the main problem with crossbows. There are other "automatic" crossbow builds which I have seen.
