  • Aaron "Wheelz" Fotheringham is 22 and from Las Vegas, Nevada. Aaron, who was born with spina bifida, was adopted into a family of six children and used a wheelchair from an early age.
Wheelz went to his first skate park aged 8 with his older brother and after watching from behind the fence, his brother challenged him to drop into the bowl himself. He gave it a go, landed on his face but was hooked from that moment. Now Wheelz is the only person to land a double back flip in a wheelchair and is continually pushing himself to see what tricks he can do next.
"Fear is definitely a huge part of it" says Wheelz. " It's more than just regular fear, it's 'I'm going to die'."

Hotwheels released a toy replica of his stunt chair in 2019 and it is a much loved and cherished unique collectors piece.

Remember him saying in the nitro circus movie that the way he sees it. He's not in his wheel chair. He's on it. Im by no means handicapped or anything but i still have mad respect for wheels cus he is setting new standards in the sport. Like he said he is showing that if something happens and you end up in a wheel chair its not the end. You can still go and do what you love

having been born with the same thing as him im a big fan, I do find him inspiring, although i have to say terms like inspirational , and the one that grinds my gears when its used to describe a person with a disability, Brave, are often over used in those cases, Brave is a soldier or firefighter putting their life on the line, not someone sitting in a wheelchair. (And whilst im on the subject, another gear grinder is that slogan, the only disability is a bad attitude, trust me, it isnt)
Anywyay, i was blown away the first 100 or so times i saw him do this stuff and believe me, if this video is all youve seen of him, you aint seen nothing!! lol, do a search for him and Nitro Circus, theres loads of videos.
Couple of points i want to make though.
    1) its kind of old news to a lot of us, must be 5 years since i first found out about him. And ive been following ever since.
    2) i can see the anti welfare state people looking at this and saying why are they paying taxes towards disability benefits when we can do things like this, well, the answers simple, not all of us can, let me put it this way, usain bolt can run 100 metres in less than ten seconds, can you? I doubt it. The fact that Aaron can do this doesnt mean i can, however much i wish i could. There are a large amount of ability levels in disability, even within a single disability, like spina bifida, i consider myself somewhere in the middle, like Aaron i cant walk, but unlike him i also have other bits falling off, such as a head condition called Arnold Chiari Malformation, which prevents me from even attempting things like this (google will show you why) plus a couple of other things, ive known kids with SB that died as a result (i used to go to a special school as a kid, two from there had it, with hydrocephalus) And also know someone who was 50 before he even knew he had it, and SB is something youre born with, its not something you 'catch' later on. so you can see how varied disability can be just from that. So i would just ask you to consider that when watching videos of Aaron and others, and be sensible about it. I really would encourage you to do a search though.
    3) Nitro Circus who he 'works' with are on tour early next year in the UK, Manchester, London, and Glasgow, im hoping he is with them when theyre in Manchester, I think there has been one or two occasions when he wasnt able to be in the past, fingers crossed!.

      Zaina Arekat
*He is riding his wheelchair in a skateboard park with big ramps that go up vertical!! He does frontflips and backflips, and he just did the first double backflip in a wheelchair and landed it perfect!! He also does things like what is called a hand plant!! That is where he goes fast and rides his wheelchair up the curved vertical ramp up to the top and then at the top he does a one handed handstand with him and his wheelchair upside-down and then he turns over and rolls back down the ramp!!! I hope you get the idea of that trick because it's one of my favorite things he does in the skate park!!!* *I really wish you could see him in action I think you would like it!!!*

Hey, I know it's been two years since you wrote this comment, and you probably don't even remember typing it, but I also have SB and HC (shunt and everything) and first off, in rememberance of your friends who have passed away, I'm sorry. I've actually never heard of anyone dying from either one past the 60s, so my first reaction to reading that part of your comment hit me like, "wow, this person has experienced loss due to disability." It's heart-wrenching, I can only imagine. But your comment, it also struck, is one that has the potential to last as an important piece of widsom and respectful knowledge, that could teach many of different levels of ability for many generations, and I wish there was some way it could be Pinned to stand in the forefront of comments/messages so that it could easily read/heard (with computer-savvy mobility devices) alongside watching the video. At least, if it were my video, I would pin your comment. I have a lot of respect for your insight you desplayed 2 years ago. Lol talk about the butterfly effect in mild form, huh? The thoughtful effect your words from the past might have on someone years into the future, eh? Hope you're still doing well. I hope you're still keeping that preaching up, you could be doing a lot of good with it. :) Cheers, mate.

Aaron Fatherington is a fuxking *:)* LEGEND, and that little girl (with MUCH bigger cahones than me at 26, for DAMN sure!) is going places if she keeps up that kind of ambition. It's nothing short of ironic with foks like these that disabled people are viewed traditionally as weaker or more inferior when these cool cats get to rollin' around, doing their thing, Freakin' planet-sized props to Aaron, coolest dude shorter than 5.5 feet alive right now, damn straight!
