    I'm a skateboarder and I randomly stumbled across this video. I'm sitting here crying because it's absolutely empowering!!!! I have a Neurological Disability that really effects my ability to speak and it's really been bringing me down as I'm learning how to adjust to a new way of life. Just watching the positivity and drive in this video has really got me thinking about the way that I have been viewing my life. Thank you so much for sharing this video!!! Keep shredding!!!! 🥰

    I used to inline skate on ramps for like 20 years before my injury. It brought so much joy to my life and it was a huge part of my life. I really miss it. But then I saw Aaron on his wheelchair just KILLING it - this guy is simply AMAZING and in my opinion he puts inline, bmx, and skateboarding to shame (again, my opinion). No extreme athlete has ever brought tears to my eyes. He is a BEAST!

    When my college friend became a wheelchair user in his young teens (back in the 80's) his parents bought him a top-of-the-line wheelchair. It only lasted a few months. The 'problem' was that everything his friends would do on their motocross/bmx bikes ... he would do in his chair! He'd go through 3 or 4 per year. His parents would complain but his docs said it was good for him so his parents shut up and accepted his extreme wheelchair use.

    I recently had to give up skateboarding and longboarding because my knees can't tolerate the impact anymore. I'm 18, and I hate my arthritic knees every single day. Seeing this though, as much as I miss my board like hell, It's nice to see others feeling that same magic.
    Never forget that feeling, and never let go of the excitement that grips you the second your wheels leave the ground. It's the most incredible freedom.

      You are not alone!!! My right knee started going out when I was 8, and I stubbornly pushed like hell through it as a teen but just ended up doing more damage. Now it's both knees for me, and wheelchair is my only option. my family is so scared about how I'll cope because being active outdoors on my feet was my EVERYTHING. But getting a chair that fits really close and I can maneuver etc, rugged tires, I am finding that the joy is really still possible. We can do this!

    It's awesome to see so many wheelchair users in one place doing something like that. I'd probably never go to a skate park though because I would be too afraid of breaking an arm or leg.

      @@Wheels2Walking This was amazing to watch. Oh my gosh though, how I was worried for everyone though! Looked so scary. Two years ago I fell out of my wheelchair from dusting of all things! I was reaching for a photo frame and somehow my butt raised up just enough and I fell forward, my body all crumbled on top of my leg/foot rests. I broke two bones in my left knee and a bone in my right ankle. My bones were to brittle for surgery (for screws and plates) because of osteoporosis and being a paraplegic, complete, for decades, I guess. I was braced up for 10 weeks from groin to toes on left leg and knee to toes on right leg. I was in the hospital and a rehabilitation center for 10 long weeks because I lost my independency. It was extremely depressing. Be careful and please make sure your bones are strong. I had no idea mine weren't anymore.

    I put together a chair from secondhand stuff on ebay with big fat offroad tires and a really small tilite frame, it's been amazing to be able to face hills and tough terrain and inspires me to try to learn as much as I can to maneuver these wheels and kick ass with them! But learning the badass moves means taking tumbles. Today I tipped over backwards and hit the ground HARD. Yesterday I was doing great down a grassy hill when my caster hit a hole and I went flying sideways. Thank you for showing the spills as well as the amazing rides. It was cool to see you trying those tricks with folks there on your sides. I never thought about asking for help and having a friend spot me. Thanks for these videos

    Hey man so i just found out about box wcmx wheelchairs actually yesterday and here you are trying one out today. Honestly how did that chair fit, was it lightweight, how big were the wheels, would you ever buy one and are they comfortable enough to use as your everyday chair???? Sorry to ask so many questions but i think these chairs are amazing! I just am curious if they are worth the $5,000-$8,000 it would take to have one made. Let me know man, you and I are in similar shape physically and about the same size so I really value your opinion on this kinda stuff. Thanks man! Btw that looked so sick dude!

    • @Wheels2Walking
      @Wheels2Walking  5 років тому +14

      The one I got in wasn’t mine so it definitely fit weird, like using someone else’s shoes to play basketball on the wrong feet. However, I could tell it was sturdy and if one was fit to me it would be nice. I may end up getting myself one bit I’m not committed yet.
      It was light but not as light as my every day chair. You have to remember there are a bunch of extra components and metal on it. Almost everyone I know who uses a box wheelchair or any WCMX char also uses it as their every day chair. A bunch of people can’t be wrong.
      I think box is able to work with you on the pricing, from what I understand they figure out what you can afford and go from there.
      Hope this helps!

      Michael Bruemmer hey dude I have had. 2 WCMX. Chairs by mike box, and I found them quite heavy if I’m being completely honest with you I used them as everyday chairs, big mistake, if and when you get one I’d only use it in the skatepark because its just a bit on the heavy side to just rely on it to do food shopping etc so definitely have an other chair
      I used to ride on 525s however my every day chair I use is 24 wheel, don’t get me wrong those are amazing chairs. My advice is make sure you have a every day chair too

    That looks like a lot of fun! But tbh something I’d never try myself because of my condition. I had to jump a curb a couple of days ago due to construction work in my neighborhood blocking the accessible path to the parking lot, and even though I was wearing not Aspen Vista neck brace as always, I hurt my neck and my lower back when going down the curb, it was just too much of an impact for my spine and neck to handle and I’m in pain still from it. I have the skills to take curbs, but my EDS has just gotten so much worse lately that I can no longer do it because of the impact when coming down from the curb... Any little bump or pothole or curb higher than a couple of inches can be “too much” for my body now. And yes, I have complained about it, along with raising concerns over 2 weeks ago so they’ve had plenty of time to fix an accessible path before blocking the one we had...
    I’m getting out of my comfort zone by deciding to try to vlog some about it. Not done it yet but I will try as it’s a major stink anytime there’s a construction or road work- they just never have people with disabilities in mind and assume everyone outside is fully functional in every way...
    I’m currently parked on a small lawn next to the building I live in, and that’s next to the parking lot. Have my handicap parking permit on display along with a note of WHY I’m parked there- along with warning the CEO of the housing company that I’d park outside the building if nothing is done regarding an accessible path. I currently can’t even go to my parents place two buildings away, without using the car or take a long detour to avoid curbs, and I’m not really able to deal with detours now, hands and wrists hurting too much so I can barely even cope with manual char at the moment. While yes, I could stand up and walk past an obstacle, I choose not to as I shouldn’t have to, and each time I have to stand up to transfer into car or go to bathroom at home or whatever, it causes more pain and I’m at risk of falling...

    • @Wheels2Walking
      @Wheels2Walking  5 років тому +1

      Yeah I can’t imagine this sport would be close to impossible for someone with EDS. Sorry to hear about your path and lack of access. Wes Hamilton had to deal with that recently getting in and out of his office, couldn’t even get to work some days due to lack of access.

    • @ReyOfLight
      @ReyOfLight 5 років тому +1

      I might suffer the physical pain from the lack of access, but the housing company and town are the ones in the dunce corner as I can and will contact local media and some magazines to raise awareness about accessibility around construction sites and roadwork where people have to take alternative paths past something 😏

      demon45ize I love diving, that & horse riding are my favourite activities. If you live nature, swimming or feeling free, you'll adore diving. I can swim more easily than walk or self-propel, so it's ideal for me. I just can't get out if bed atm though. It's only been 4 months this time, my record for being bed-bound is 6 years. I'm sorry sing the time making plans for what I'll do when I'm free again. I have a fluctuating condition.

      To each their own, we use specialized wheelchairs and safety equipment. If you wanna preserve yourself, sure, play it safe. But if you wanna live it’s time to start pushing yourself to the limits of what you can accomplish. I never want to look back on my life and have any regrets.
