“Special thanks to J. Marchetti and Brussels Jazz Club”
Recorded at Studio Shiva Brussels, 1979
A good blindfold test album for a Frisell fanatic. He's sounding almost like a slightly slower Bill Connors here...that kind of airless, noodling overdriven fusion guitar style is so unlike him, even back then. He did use overdrive a lot in the 1980s, but usually his lines were quirky enough that it didn't sound this fusion-y. However, "Sans Blues Thank You" does sound a lot like stuff he was composing for the next couple of decades.
The drummer was better known as Vinnie Johnson. He shows up two years later playing straight-ahead swing on the last good Tal Farlow album, "Cookin' On All Burners" (Concord Records). He could do it all. He passed away in 2012. This same rhythm section backs up keyboardist Emil Viklický on a couple of albums recorded in Czechoslovakia in the early 1980s.
Good information And I like your suggestion for a blindfold test for Frizz fanz.
Certainly the classiest album cover art ever to grace a Frisell release. You can see the full cover here: www.discogs.com/Michel-Herr-Bill-Frisell-Vinton-Johnson-Kermit-Driscoll-Good-Buddies/release/1683780

Is the transfer bad? Should I do it over?
@@thearchive6605 I don't notice any problem. I think the OP was only commenting on the production style, comparing it to the work of guitarist Buzz Feiten. I don't think any criticism of the sound quality was implied in the comment.
@@thearchive6605 ..do u have an email i can contact with? Please&Thanks
