Wonderful video! I raised a small group of Heros "severum," which I was able to keep for about a year, back in the 1980s. They were beautiful fish, and just as full of character as any other medium sized cichlid. It is a real privilege to get to see wild fish in their native habitat, and to see the distribution of the several species on a map. Many thanks!
I am planning to add severums to my tetra community tank, but keep getting told they wud nibble on the smaller ones?is it true?also which is the most peaceful severum? Tia
I had some Severus I had to sell. Also killed the Rio araguia (excuse spelling) when a heater malfunctioned. I am getting another pair soon. Mine bred tons. Nice video btw
Hello. I recently caught a heros cichlid in a canal in South Florida. I'm trying to identify the species, but I'm having some trouble. This video helped, but I'm still not positive. Is there a way I could send you a picture of the fish and you could give me your opinion? Thanks.
I have a big 10inch severum don't know if it's wild or not or what kind it has the colours of a green severum but no markings at all on the body or face just green with a red analogue fin and bluish face it was imported from South America already at that size so have no idea how old it is.
My favorite cichlid. Love seeing them in their wild habitats. Would also love too see black knife ghost fish in the wild.🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞Haven't been able to find that on the internet yet...
you only see Apteronotus at night, and then usually they dash from the flashlight beam under the nearest rock, it is not very exciting. You never see those type of fish during the day, unless they are disturbed from flipping over a rock etc.
@@belowwater i guess that makes them all the more interesting to keep as aquarium pets. They are my all time favourite fish. Mine is 10 inches. Always enjoy it's (Mr. Cody Squiggles) presence in the tank and always curious about their natural environment so I can better replicate it.👍

Probably the best video about Severums on the Internet.
This is an excellent video it's very helpful and it's always great to see species in their natural environment

Thanks for the video! Awesome images and good information, as usual!
Wonderful video ... Thanks for making it :)
Great and useful information. Thanks for sharing!
Interesting video and nice footage as always...
What species are the gold or red spotted gold as I'm presuming it isn't a naturally occuring severum?
likely H.efasciatus that is the most common species from breeders, but I do not know for sure.
Think is your best yet.
Thanks again Oliver.
I asked and you delivered! I love severum and have a pair in a 110 gallon aquarium with a shitload of tetras.

@@digimolgeorge6609 i have 2 in with over 100 tetras and a breeding pair of convicts with no issues.
Excellent content. Thank you for this.
This is an amazing video!
Excellent video, Oliver. The hobbyists have sorted the taxonomy of these fishes before the ichthyologists.
Thank you - i am not sure. but we will end up with at least 1 more by the time it is all done.
How do you differ Severus from the undescribed similar species you spoke of?
I had some Severus I had to sell. Also killed the Rio araguia (excuse spelling) when a heater malfunctioned. I am getting another pair soon. Mine bred tons.
Nice video btw
Great vid looking forward for more

quite likely H.efasciatus, the most common species in exports, and in the Amazon lowland. Our Rio Araguaia video has video of these breeding.

@@belowwater я имею в виду во сколько месяцев рыба северум нотатус готова размножаться
@@kingpc. я предполагаю, что в природе рыбы размножаются в следующий сезон дождей, если им 12-14 месяцев.
Top de mais
is Heros sp Red Shoulder Rotkeil a natural fish? many in europe say it is not. but then places like you, tuic, wetspot say it is a natural wild fish.
it's a new species or form of H.efasciatus from the Rio Nanay
😊👍👍👍👍👍🍀❤️🌻👍Dankeschön

_Caquetaia_ , a genus of cichlids (the name comes from the Caqueta river)
Thank you for the videos!
I’m voting for Lula tomorrow, hoping to save those rivers and forests from Bolsonaro’s destruction.
Looks like that worked!
