Thailand is majority Buddhist so probably most Thais wouldn’t be ‘celebrating’ Christmas but I guess some people might still decorate for the fun of it I guess?

Yes, in Thailand the majority of people are Buddhists, followed by Muslims and Christians. However, many expatriates and tourists are also Christians. Many people choose to fly back to Europe or America during this festival because they think that Thailand does not celebrate Christmas. Therefore, we need to prepare for Christmas in advance so that these people do not worry about this festival.

Thailand is a predominantly Buddhist country. As such, "holiday" decoration is all commercialized with Santa Claus, Snowman, and Christmas tree and not religiously displayed. You will notice that you do not see any Christian Crosses or baby Jesus anywhere in these decorations. You can probably find them in the local Catholic Churches in Bangkok. Plus, it's still can get up to the 90s F anyway in December so get in an air conditioned room for the Christmas Spirit:)

Another good thing to do during Christmas and New Year in Bangkok is to book Christmas dinners at the 5 star hotels and some top rated Western restaurants. In these places, you will start feeling that it is that time of the year. It's more of a family feeling at night with suttle feeling of coziness. The Christmas feel is delivered with just a few hints even, like a small pine tree, pictures, etc.. You can try this. It's just another way of bringing back the Christmas feeling without feeling that everything is commercialized.

Guys!!! While Christmas decoration and all out materialism occurs during the end of the year here in Thailand, there still lacks certain essential elements of what westerners would expect for Christmas (unless you live in the south of the US). From my point of view, the essential element is colder weather, some wind, and if possible snow. I don't know whether you're considering traveling out of the kingdom or not for Christmas, but if you do, Japan is a great place to feel Christmassy. There is an ice sculpturing contest every year in Sapporo. Even Harbin, China is a great place to see ice sculpture contest. I would argue that in Harbin, it's probably much more grandeur in terms of the size and quantity of works (some you can actually use yourself--- hotel, slides, etc.). However, if you remain in the kingdom and still want that Christmas feeling as far as the weather is concerned, it is a good time to visit Chiangmai, Chiangrai, Mae Hon Son, and other extreme north of the kingdom. Temperatures around those areas between Dec-Feb End often averages 18-25 outside in the sun. Up on the mountain it drops to 2 celcius as well. Here's a surprise for you. If you travel just 2 hours or to the northeast, you will reach the Kaoyai Region. The region is at a much higher elevation than Bangkok, and so it experiences a much more potent cold snap from the Northeastern Monsoon winds which come down from China during the winter months. I was there 2 years ago and we stayed there at a small resort hotel. We experienced 23-25 during the day, 18-20 during the night. One windy morning, we had breakfast at the hotels deck-out near the pool while it was windy and the temperature was actually 15 celcius!!! Anyway, what ever you guys choose to do for Christmas, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

Like everyone says, we don’t really go all out with Christmas decorations here. It’s more of a cute seasonal theme for malls, kind of like how we do Halloween, and it’s still a bit early! We tend to save the grand celebrations for our own events like Loy Krathong or Thai New Year instead. That said, it’s a bit of pop culture for Thais, especially girls, to take photos at the Christmas events at Central World every year. We don’t really celebrate it, but we kind of participate in this way 😁.
As a Christian myself, I celebrate at home and the church. My private school (a long time ago 🤣) was run by a Catholic group, so Christmas celebrations were a big thing for us. We had huge parties in our classrooms, everyone brought their own food or called for delivery. I really miss that! Then I moved to a Thai public school... and we had exams on Christmas Day 😭, even the national university entrance exam was on Christmas......
By the way, Guss Damn Good is a super trendy Thai ice cream shop. It’s a bit pricey but really popular, the fun part is guessing the flavor from its quirky name. As for Tonchin Ramen, it’s a branch of the New York-based ramen spot 😂, and the Michelin stars are actually from the New York locations. Honestly, it’s my favorite ramen place in malls when you factor in both value and taste.

    • @jamemax
      @jamemax 10 годин тому +1

Moreover, Thailand has tons of great ramen spots, including branches of Japan’s top-ranking ramen restaurants with chefs straight from Japan. Many of these are the only locations outside of Japan. In fact, a lot of Japanese restaurants here are incredibly authentic and amazing. You should definitely try some if you love Japanese food!

Guys love your videos but you missed the cultural sensitivity on this one. Let’s go to Thailand and expect my American traditions, food and culture to be in a foreign country. Then being disappointed in not finding the food and decorations is way off the mark. To be honest I was pleasantly surprised I found so much Christmas themed things at the malls and places when I came last year during Christmas. You are in their country, open your minds to their culture, food and traditions..not the other way around. If you want Christmas go home enjoy Christmas then come back. Sorry I’m very blunt.

Thank you so much! We have seen and heard a lot of hype going around about how beautiful it is in Bangkok as far as Christmas Decor and delicious treats.
Bangkok is such a developed/modern city with millions of tourists that visit during Christmas.
If you seen the whole video, we go over what you can expect when you’re coming to Bangkok during Christmas time. We’re not going to lie about being disappointed because we were at first. Maybe with all of the hype going on, we had a higher expectation.
Honestly, Central World was beautiful as mentioned in the video. We also gave it a 10/10 and highly recommended it. We understand we are in their country and respect them. Never did we have any ill intentions. If we wanted to go back, we could but we chose to spend it here in Thailand for the first time. I think you and a lot of people are missing the point of this video. Maybe watching the full video will clear things up as far as the intention of this video. So foreigners will know what to expect when visiting Bangkok during Christmas time.
Sorry for the long message. Just wanted to clear the air.

At least people here don't burn down foreign shops, scan customers before they even enter the store or push Asian-looking people under the train... I'm kidding, that never happens because God taught us to love and pray for everyone, even those who persecute us.

    คนไทยร่วมสนุกทุกเทศกาลแต่ไม่ได้ลงลึกถูกต้องหรือไม่ และไม่มีของตกแต่งตามบ้านขาย(เยอะจัดเต็ม)

i love the festive atmosphere and the deco, but at the same time, it saddens me that Christmas has become so commercialised around the world that people have forgotten whose birthday we're celebrating. Our Lord and Saviour.
what to do ... what to do ...
BTW, over here, some places are already playing Chinese New Year songs! for businesses that want our money, they're done with Christmas and are moving on. LOL

i would not expect the greatest Christmas there being it is a Christian holiday and most of Thailand is not christian..Christmas is only done there for the money i believe 😥..and its not even thanksgiving yet.. have some patience for the decor to come 🤣 and i personally will never give starbucks anymore of my money- bad ethics within that company.
