One of the best thing Marina showed on her time in Uk vs the world is that she did not come for a redemption or to prove herself, she went there to showcase Filipino culture and drag. Despite her having already a brand prior to the show, she was unabashedly being Filipino and yknow what props to her
The editing done to the lipsync vs Hannah is crazy. The fact that Marina's neckbreak deathdrop wasn't included and the majority of the time we were shown Hannah and the judges is wild to me. The congrats to the ukvstheworld editors.

If you're not from Philippines, the song Precious and Marina lip synced to, titled "Sirena" is a song by a famous Filipino rapper, composer and producer Gloc 9 that is a love letter to his queer son (afaik, his son came out as trans, so his daughter). The song in general narrates the struggles of growing up as a gay or queer individual.

I also want to add that the song was used to bully a lot of queer folks around the Philippines, myself included, specifically gay feminine boys.
So Drag Race Philippines using it for the finale lip sync made it so much more powerful as its sort of a reclaiming moment, where the song that was always supposed to be for us, but was taken by the homophobes to mock us, is now being reclaimed by us queer people.

I just felt so hard for Keta. Someone who flagrantly and knowingly broke the rules on her season was not disqualified or punished, and when it came between choosing Keta or the cheater, they chose the cheater to stay. I was crossing all appendages that she would get to the finale just to give her that moment.

Vivaldi admitted she had one, that she knew it was against the rules, and basically just apologized and all was well. Real DRDU s1 vibes. Vivaldi made it to the finale, eliminating Keta.
True. Keta deserves another chance over the likes of Marina and LGD who got to the end twice, sadly wasn't able to do a Paper Cut in LMD5 type run

One of my favorite moments in Philippines Season 1 was the conversation between Marina and Xilhouete. They’d been going at it all season long, and the way they approached addressing their issues, apologizing for them, and talking things out was very sweet and mature. Xilhouete was able to get a sincere apology across for her part in the feud, while still sharing her hurt feelings with Marina in a way that didn’t come off as blaming or script-flipping. And Marina was able to understand, come to terms with her own feelings, and apologize for her own part in a natural way that allowed them to reopen the door on that relationship. It was such a mature and powerful moment, and one I wish I’d have with people I’ve had conflict with in the past.
In any case, I bet Xilhouete is very proud of Marina’s success on UKVTW2, and I’m sure it’ll grow from there!
She was also a trained dancer and a former TV producer, not to mention she has connections to big designers in the country AND has her personal stylist. That combo was meant to EAT on a show like Drag Race
She said in her musings ep with bj pascual that she didn’t have the connections in her og season because she didn’t have a big name/was the new girl in the drag scene. Most designers rejected her at the time but she still delivered amazing looks. And while she didn’t really knew how to sew, she managed to be safe or place high in every design challenge. She’s just so creative and has good taste and fashion sense.
1. I've been closely paying attention to which drag race youtubers give space to talk about Filipino queens, and I am so happy to add GreenGay to my list.
2. Subjectively, it's representation. Marina was more than just coming from the Philippines. It was the culture that she brought along with her. I mean, the wedding runway--HELLO?! Growing up in America as a brown gay boy, I would never in my life thought that I would be seeing this kind of representation but here we are.
3. Objectively, it's her hard work. She rightfully deserved all of the badges fair and square.
4. Ru said she was born to do drag not once but twice!
5. Y'all need to see her performances outside of Drag Race, she's so REAL!
I could keep going honestly. Marina might not be the queen of UKVTW2 but she is MY queen and I'm sure is the queen of many others around the world.

Yes same!! A Filipina taught me how to cook a lot of their dishes and how to say naughty words when I lived in MA, and introduced me to her beautiful trans Filipina good Judy who I still talk to.

I got introduced to Marina this season and wow I fell in love with her sm. Like I was rooting for scarlet, LGD, and Tia to make it to the finale but by the time ep 7 finished I wanted marina to win. So when she lost I was so upset but not upset enough to send hate to the queens. She’s so talented and her drag omg blew me away that glow up runway was FUCKIN AMAZING one of the best things to be on the show. I need her on a US all stars to win the season just like how Jimbo got a whole season for her to win bc winning 200k is sm better than winning 50,000 pound. Ru is obsessed with her after UKVTW.

I love that you still enjoyed the finale lipsync between Marina and Precious because the song they performed to is called "Sirena" which means mermaid in Tagalog. It's a really loaded song that came out in 2012. The word "sirena" was a derogatory term used to call gay people when they didn't want to outwardly say "bakla" meaning "gay" in Tagalog.
The song "Sirena" talks about the life of a gay boy in the Philippines and having to grow up in a homophobic household where his father would punish his son for being gay by dunking his head in a drum of water-- hence, "sirena" for constantly being in the water. The son though, despite being treated this way growing up still became his father's primary caretaker after he got diagnosed with cancer. So the end of the song talks about how the father apologizes for how he treated his son, because even if his son wears women's clothes, sometimes gay men are manlier than other men.
The song was performed by a really well-respected rapper too so he really had a lot of households blasting this song during a time when gay people weren't as commonly accepted, or more accurately, tolerated, for existing.
When the chorus says "Ako'y isang sirena, kahit anong sabihin nyo'y ako ay ubod ng ganda." the direct translation is "I am a mermaid. No matter what you say, I am full of beauty."
I could go on about the meaning of the lyrics but yeah, them choosing that song for the finale is really really loaded and very intentional.

She's literally the most exciting preformer the show has ever seen across all franchises. Like she pulls out moves so systematically and smoothly it's never boring at all to watch. I'm really sad she didn't get the win but I am happy for Tia ❤
If we all support her constantly, she WILL end up on an all stars season. The producers always want to see fan reception on the queens to invite them back.
When I received news of Marina being a first runner up during her first season, I immediately knew that she'd be invited to compete in an international season. I knew that Rupaul would love her. She has the IT factor. I'm so proud of her!
The point about international queens from franchises like Philippines going to DragCon and meeting the American queens that they've looked up to, only for them to not even know who they are is so sad

I hadn't watched phillipines so didn't know marina but by episode 2 of uk vs the world i could see she was a real talent. I'm going to see her next month when she comes to Belfast. She's fantastic and think she only got knocked out at the finale because they knew if they put her up against Tina or le grande dame then they would lose to her. That said I would have been happy with marina, tia or le grande winning as they were my 3 favourites.
You missed that Marina didn't only made an homage to Pia but also to Catriona, the Miss Universe 2018 with her Lava gown to Marina’s Ru-veal. They have the same gown designer too. Only Queen thingsssss.
Hello! The lipsync song "Sirena," (filipino for mermaid, sometimes used as an another term for gay) is a song by Gloc-9 released in 2012 that holds a very deep meaning and relevance for members of the LGBT community here in the Philippines. Bullies, from my experience, used to sing this to me when I was younger; teasing and mocking me for being gay. The last time I heard that song I was crying because it was what they used to bully me. But when they used the song as the finale lipsync for the first ever season of Dragrace Philippines, the song became a beautiful power anthem. It felt empowering. I cried but this time, I felt powerful. Please go check out the song!

Marina has lots of layers and thoughts in every move, queer excellence, I APPRECIATE IT!
I'm glad Tia gained her confidence and yes she is funny sometimes but this Drag race should not be for growing or getting confident, it should be for EXCELLENCE, for me the top two were: MARINA and LGD, HANNAH is great and the funniest, but the intelligence behind Marina and LGD 's concepts are simply excellent. It is important to appreciate them!

Hanna and Tia FINALE runways were HORRIBLE, how this two arrived in the top 4 I dont understand, but one of them winning? BS UK style!!! seems like UK fans love only unpolished funny queens acting the fool on stage for me Tia, with her awkward stage presence, unpolished looks and bad make up is no offence the worse (not deserving) winner all seasons. Sorry is the truth.
I love Marina and I hope that her popularity introduces more viewers to DR Philippines and other international seasons! DR Philippines needs the extra support for their lighting and sound budget iykyk lol. Marina is a wonderful representative for the franchise, I hope we get to see Bernie or Xilouette back next for a vs the world!
I’m just so happy that Marina is getting this level of love. Mariné deserves better, the fans deserve better, and Asian queens on Ru hosted seasons deserve so much better.
I love how UK vs TW tries do make UK queens shine and look superior by giving then the crown but fails completly with asian royalty taking the house. was like that with Pangina and it is now with miss Marina.

Those damn spoilers spoiled the season for me! Won't fall into that rabbit hole again.
What struck me with UKVTW2 was how gracious the girls were with each other. They seem to get (from past experience) that RPDR is all a game within a game. Any loss is not the end all - it's just in service of the edit and narrative of their particular season. The "Riggory" is still alive and well. Hopefully, a queen doesn't take it all personally or way too seriously, embrace the process and just have fun. For the fans? That's another matter.
Marina will keep plugging along, elevating her drag and with the support of the fandom, the stars will align for her someday in the RUniverse.
By the end of this season, Marina had become my favorite.

I loved that first season of DRPH, so much that the second one kinda disappointed me. I really hope we can see Minty Fresh in an international season next year.
I remember her stellar runways on DRPH, and she was also very good at branding herself, and not just the Queen of Summer branding. She also dug into the marine/ocean branding, which was clear with her pearls runway.
All 4 of the UKvs S2 finalists are deserving, and compared to S1, this was an upgrade. To have each finalist from a different franchise/country, that is pretty bomb.
Haven’t seen it yet, but I have a theory that this video was made with the assumption that Marina would win. Could’ve been made whenever, but it was suppose to recap Marina, the winner, and not Marina the legendary drag queen we’ve come to love.
Both things can be true! I made this video rooting for Marina, but ended up being shocked once I saw the finale. BUT, we forget that she won the moment she walked through those doors.

-The queens Marina eliminated are from countries that have invaded Philippines at one point (Mayhem from US, Gothy from UK, Choriza from Spain)
-In the spoilers for the season, Marina was rumored to btm Advert, SG, and Roast. This made it seem like Scarlet couldve stayed over Marina as her track record looked better lmao
To be fair, Marina did bottom in all those challenges. Production just saved her from elimination each time. Those three performances would get you eliminated on almost ANY other season.
Her snatch game, advert and roast were all next level cringe. Even with compassion that it's not her first language, it was still incredibly hard to watch. Like... Aiden Zhane level snatch game cringe.
Marina was hands down the fan fave from Philippines 1, her and Eva. can’t wait to see what the two of them do with their star power.

so many people are saying that people who are vocally sad about marina not winning is a stab at tia for winning - which is 100% not the case. you are allowed to be sad that your fav didn't win and not be a hater/racist towards tia. for some people, especially asians - who already have the least amount of visibility in any drag race season, seeing someone like marina is literally life changing and refreshing. We hardly ever get to see our asian queens flourish like marina did, so seeing her not even get to the final lip sync for the crown hurts. in no way is this sending hate to tia!

I’m a STRONG Marina Stan she has absolutely got the cu*t factor in SPADES, she also seems SSOOO authentically good natured and nice and humble??!! Does anyone else notice that a lot of the queens lately feel like they are playing the game of reality television a little bit too intensely? I feel like Scarlett in particular let me down with her shown personality this season bc it didn’t seem like she was having fun anymore!! Marina is the obvious and true winner of ukvtw2. The producers really REALLY do a disservice to queens when they favor them too much.
