I discovered this movie recently and man, does it resonate still so heavily... The Parade song, the many depictions of Japan's society flaws, the blissful despair, the careless enjoyment of the crowd, the weirdness of the dreams mixing with the terrible reality... This scene has it all. It's stuck in my mind. Well done, Satoshi Kon.
Non-Japanese here, but here's what I can pick out. Here is my take on this Insane Parade. 0:00 Japan's high suicide rate. 0:23 mixing religious totems with toys and souvenirs. 0:25 Japan confusing it's national identity. 0:30 Japan's faux religious Identity. 0:42 Japan's issue as parent's are viewing children increasingly as possible money makers. 0:50 Japan's issue with Voyeurs and girls being told to "not make issues." 0:55 Japan's huge issue with the homeless population 0:59 Japan's issue with Non-functional members of society or Hikkikomori. 1:02 Japan (But honestly everywhere) issue with so many government officials making half-baked promises and many times never reaching promised goals after so many years in office. 1:08 Once again issue with so many figure heads for groups that nearly tear each other apart trying to reach the top can even be heard declaring themselves chosen by god, or being god at the same time... (all of them yelling "I didn't chose/vote you!) 1:19 Japan taking other cultures and seriously changing them. Also want to point out that many People either ignored the insanity and went on with their lives, watched in enjoyment, or became part the insanity/issue themselves.
@@fixxddd There is still a rampant Homeless problem in Japan and with not a lot of places to go, either Business men who have lost it all, runaways that can't do anything without their families approval, or people that moved to the big city and couldn't bring themselves to come back. Movies have never been able to capture the real feeling and apperance of dreams and psychological instability like this one, and with such beautiful and detailed animation.

Yooo didn't expect to see you here! Yeah, people really do miss the mark with this movie. It's part fever dream, part societal criticism, and part anti consumerism.

the movie is about dreams and reality, ai tends to generate things that look dream like so i get the comparison here. but this is def better animated then anything ai could make.

This scene has always been 1/3 horror and 2/3 comedy for me. Horror because of the gravity of the situation in the context of the film… comedy because the tv guys meandering backwards into the parade and Toshimi’s “wut tha actuall hell” face never fails to make me laugh.
This movie is fantastic, but you have to watch it more than once because you'll miss a lot of subtleties the first time. It's multilayered and the animation is gorgeous. Great soundtrack too!

@@Blackheartzero Yeah... this is the last movie he created, before he died... And some says, that this is actually inspired 'Inception' movie (don't ask me, I don't know if it's true or not...)

1:23 It was at this moment, J.J. Jameson knew he needed therapy.
0:50 Japan's issue with Voyeurs and girls being told to "not make issues."
0:55 Japan's huge issue with the homeless population
0:59 Japan's issue with Non-functional members of society or Hikkikomori.
(all of them yelling "I didn't chose/vote you!)
1:19 Japan taking other cultures and seriously changing them.
Also want to point out that many People either ignored the insanity and went on with their lives, watched in enjoyment, or became part the insanity/issue themselves.
Bruh there is more homeless people in LA than in all japan
@@fixxddd There is still a rampant Homeless problem in Japan and with not a lot of places to go, either Business men who have lost it all, runaways that can't do anything without their families approval, or people that moved to the big city and couldn't bring themselves to come back. Yooo didn't expect to see you here! Yeah, people really do miss the mark with this movie. It's part fever dream, part societal criticism, and part anti consumerism.
I don’t like the comparison to AI slop, even as a joke 😅 These are animated metaphors for human problems that had a lot of work and effort behind them.
I hate AI
the movie is about dreams and reality, ai tends to generate things that look dream like so i get the comparison here. but this is def better animated then anything ai could make.

Weather Lady: Today's weather is dreamy and will clear up after a sunny, sunny, sunny, sunny day!

Women: The dreams will grow and grow. Let's grow the tree that blooms money.
Advanced phone schoolgirls: It's most valuable while it's still a bud.
Phone men: That's right, so we shall preserve the memory forever.
Parading people: If there is no flower, there will be no fruit.
TV men: If there's nothing, then I won't do anything.
Politician: If you're unhappy, please put a vote in this eyeball.

Short man 2: I am the emperor, chosen by the lord himself!
Short men: I didn't choose you! I didn't choose you!
Parade: God and Buddha will change religions. The happy and mundane world will vent their anger.
The "dialogue" in this film is amazing :3
"God and Buddha will change religions" reminds me of Saint Young Men.
If that's really the translation, then I love how seemingly-wise yet utterly nonsensical that dialogue is. Just like real dreams.
The "It's most valuable while it's still a bud."-line might actually be a comment on how schoolgirls and, in general, very young girls are sexualized in Japan... Huh.
