This was my song in my 20's - and then in my 30's - and again in my 40's - and basically to my mid 50's. Finally at 55 I arrived. I finally made it to the other side of this song in my field of choice. Looking back it was worth every minute of it. Don't Quit! Follow your dream! Make it your living! There's no end to what you can do! The'y 'll waste your body and soul if you allow them too. Start believing in yourself! Put the blame on no one else!
Update: Six years after I arrived at my goal, I'm now at the very TOP of my profession. I say this because if you're still trying, you're not waisting time. You're building knowledge and pressure. When that door finally swings open you'll shoot like a silver rocket to heights you can't yet even imagine. Never say die!

During an interview from around this time, Sade said that the band wasn’t either professional or polished or some such, and I was shocked because (a) I NEVER detected anything but sophistication and totally inspired music from the band, and (2) if they changed any part of their formula it may not have been quite so magical. That saxophone solo is absolutely galactic!
Sade and the band have said that many times over the years. I think the magic is that core 4 members (Sade, Stuart, Paul, and Andrew) are raw natural talents with little technical “skill”, so they make musical choices that are unusual and simple but effective.

I've been a fan since Sade's first album. What I love about her (and her band because they're a flawless unit), aside from her obvious, unparalleled beauty, is how she can paint life so eloquently, with great depth, soul and pain, and still wrap it in a simplicity that is crystal-clear truth. Only a gifted talent can do this.

A nice look at 80s London. I was born 85 but I remember it like this when I visited aged 5. So 1990 but still same old buses etc.

I have never seen this. Many times I am very glad I found youtube. This is one of them. This is the best band. And if any doubt on that, they are certainly the BEST band on stage. They are loyal to one another, and love each other and it shows. The best musicians. They have been a team from the beginning even as some came and left-to denying, they are all the best.
I was 16 when this came out in 1984. Never confessed it to my mates of course. I'd rather have bitten my tongue than admit that I thought Sade was so d@mn cool. But in hindsight I am pretty pleased with myself that I was able to recognize this timeless quality.

Even though is sad that they don't make music like this anymore (or they just don't blow up) I'm so glad that we had people who did it sometime in history... this is timeless, and this message or this music will never fade away...

I have been a Web Developer for over twenty years and I still often ask myself this question,
I have always loved the 80's personal economic struggle songs. Simply Red, Wham!, Sade, Marvin Gaye etc. Oddly enough, their words/lyrics still seem to as true today, as they did back then.
I love the fact that the lyrics were real when they first wrote the song. Sade was living in a squat in a disused house in London.

They have played and toured as a band together since the beginning. They are in Lovers Live and Bring Me Home tours. However, they do add some members during tours such as the background vocalists, drummer, and guitarist. Sade, the band, will never perform with a different set of band performers.

Well imagine my surprise just seeing this for the very 1st time today.... in 2021 😳. This is a song of hers I absolutely love and never knew there was an official video released for it. In my head it was what I considered a "B - Side" selection meaning although it was released as a single it just didn't get the air play compared to the others, well in my area at least 😒. Could never understand why radio would just play certain cuts when that entire Diamond Life album was flames 🔥🔥🔥. Seeing this made my whole day💕!!! This song carries the same vibe as Simply Red's "Money's to Tight to Mention." Fast forward 30 years later, and I'm sure millions of people can still relate. Reagan and Thatcher are gone but the problems just get recycled and are still with us .

@@dwaynelewis7809 ...why is there a competition? Both are at the top of their craft. Sade's band (Sweetback) adds more flavor. Yet, Chante have a larger octave range. So my answer is... no comparison!
If she was male, they would all call her a genius, she is, forget the gender, just look at the ever rising sublime body of work she has put out, genius, no other word for it.
I still say that the Ponytail is my favorite look on a Woman. Sade is still one of the greatest singers till this day. My Mom kept Sade's Music on heavy rotation in the 80's and 90's.

Searching for my first job was hell, I wish I knew Sade at the time, this would have really helped me feel better at the time. I was getting desperate and applying for crappy positions because I didn't believe I had a chance at better things, and thankfully I ended up somewhere good anyway.
