I love Justice Sotomayor's manner of speak. So elegant and eloquent.
And so calm.
you do listen to every word, somehow, because it feels as if you were missing something interesting
And slow, making you pay attention
So soothing and calm and just so engaging. Her timbre and speaking pace makes me feel comforted and cozy.
@@princessjello it feels like she considers every word she speaks and I like that.
Straight Up!
Our school is named after her so almost every year she visits and talks to us she’s so cool and inspiring
A living, sitting, Supreme Court Justice!
Wow, that's awesome
VM where is this school at?
Stock Market Guru wuzzat? In English please.
Aww...that is Awesome! Do fortunate...
“I almost died in a room full of people who loved me.” I got chills. So emotional
Trevor Cardea I know right. Fuck me.
That was the exact line that got my heart .....for sure. I wonder how many of us do that kind of thing, with LOTS of very different issues.?

@@GHustle4 LMAO 😂 It's called Character, something you must not have or understand??😂
I met her when I was 10 in Puerto Rico. My mom loved her and made me go with her to a book reading. I didn’t really understand a lot of what she was talking about but my mom told me that she was legendary so i trusted her. When me and my mom talked to her for a book signing, Sonia asked what i wanted to do with my life. I was 10 i didn’t know what to say, but then she said “Don’t worry, you have time. Just make sure you do something you love”. She signed the book and while I was 10 and was super confused, now that i think about it, she was awesome!
That's is lovely. I hope you have a great day
Thanks for sharing that. Yes, it was lovely.
71 Do you still have the book?
Yes, so important to follow your passion. I wish I had.
*This has got to be one of the most engaging and illuminating interviews ever! She is such a powerhouse, don't let the calmness fool you.*
I am definitely fooled to be honest :) she is so sincere and warm. It's pleasant to listen to her.
“YOUR SOOOOOO on point with your comment couldn’t have said it better.” “PPpLLLLUS, I left a comment on your page on your guitar song…..” “Your voice is of a bird that fly’s high and plays with the other birds happily.” …. Top Life to you @Cristina Huilar ❤️🙏🏽🌎🎼📡…….
@@skinhitters wow, not sure about being a songbird but thank youuuuu 😘😘😘
She is intimidating in her thoroughness, Trevor spent all the time trying to inject humor, but she just kept yanking him back down with sobering wisdom.
Grace is greater.

I adore Justice Sotomayor. And I adore all the positive comments. This video is a ray of hope in a troubling world.
Yeah I always wade into the comments section with a grimace. I was delightfully surprised today!
So proud to have Judge in the Supreme court with Puertorrican heritage. Thank you for this amazing interview Trevor!
I love this. I almost lost my husband when his blood sugar dropped so low he was almost incoherently stumbling around outside his work outside a busy mall. Hundreds of people passed him, and though he was drunk or high or whatever. By the time I got to him and made it to a taco bell to get him food, grabbed the taco and came back to the car he had stopped responding and was just blankly staring. I called 911, the came and saved his life. Someone who 3 minutes ago was gone, was back like nothing had happened. Ut a brief nap. I'm starting to cry just remembering that day and thinking that thousands of people would have watched him die if I weren't picking him up that day. I wasnt aware of this movement, the just ask....but after that day I now ask if I see someone who looks out of place if they are allright. I have given out countless waters, milks, meals, hugs, prayers, whatever it was that someone needed at time to help them. And when I got older and got sick myself, I always make sure I inform those who will interact with me what I have and what it can cause, so that if there is ever a time when I cant speak or explain what is happening or what I need, those who love or just generally care about me can do what they can to help me. Thank you for your words and for the hard work and thoughtfulness you put into what you.
*"I write law every single day...But if I can affect the lives of children if I can inspire them to be bigger, better, braver that they believe they can be, then I've left a real legacy in my judgment"*

@@lucasjohnson2315 how did I make it my own??
it's a children's book, it's entertainment and not a life changing experience, especially not for a kid. She thinks too high of herself.
I see a lot of people in the comments, saying they didn't know Justice Sotomayor.
It only means that you didn't watch her confirmation hearing.
Her nomination wasn't political. It was only merit based; for she's the most qualified justice on the court.
Republicans tried to tear her down, but at the end of the day, voted to confirm her.
Excellent pick by President Obama.
Yosef Shawarma ... Thank you for that information. Also for giving it in a respectful and interesting way.
Proud of her. Putting the name of my island highter than anyone
It's strange people don't know her.
We have read about justice Sotomayor in newspapers in India!
ELABORATE ON YOUR NAME( YOSEF) AND WHY YOU SPEAK IN SUPPORT FOR SONIA THE JEW , LIKE OTHERS IN THIS ROOM?
She represents PR well!
*"Just ask, don't assume the worst in people"* 👏👏👏
Unfortunately, a majority of people love to assume the worst as it gives them a sense of superiority over the ones they are judging. So the payoff far outweighs the desire to know about others.

Cristina Huilar i wish people would just ask when they approach us blind people.
@@chelsiereid138 I'm so sorry to hear that. I have soft spot for blind people especially when my niece was born. She was born without eyes, she has bilateral Anophthalmia, a condition in which there is total absence of the actual eyes.

Ebunoluwa Mesaiyete nope. She’s a deeply partisan judge.
As a grandma--she's more than that! I'm inspired.
She could be my grand daughter... I would admire and respecter her in the same manner... Wow
nakedshadows you can make that argument for any Supreme Court judge nowadays. She is still a very wise, strong and calming person regardless
I love your name. I think I can pronounce it. 😊
Trevor Noah, you are the man my brother. What a fabulous interview with such a remarkable wonderful woman!

Am I the only one who thinks this was a beautiful interview? She's so calming and seems wonderful.
And Trevor was enjoying talking to a kind smart person. Love it!
She have such a calm demeanor yet very commanding and worthy of our attention.
It's quite a difference to watch someone in the government that doesn't add any spin. I wish more of the politicians talked like this too, we might actually learn something useful.
This is what I expect of a supreme court justice. Calm, down to earth, always the one to bring the conversation back to the point.
Compare that to Canavaugh....urgh.
Omg yes !! So true
The calmness comes from speaking with intent and no hidden agenda. She's got nothing to prove so living in the moment is a piece of cake - she's totally open and relaxed. It's so refreshing!
I dont have a child. But because of what she represents. The beautiful soul she illuminates. I will buy this book.
I'm going to buy copies for my grandchildren.
She is really truly inspiring...We will remember her forever..
Note to self: Speak calmly & deliberately when you have something to say. Listen intently & deliberately until you have something to say. #SoniaSotomayor
I noticed the exact same thing. Fascinating lady Justice Sotomayor.

This was a superb interview. Bravo
I love how she snuck in the life advice to find common ground with people you dont agree with, still talking about them as "friends", connecting on a human level not disconnecting on a political level...
Thank you for doing interviews like this one. Great Justice Sotomayor is very interesting .
Correction: "Justice** Sotomayor".
Did she thank you yet??? 😆 lol
*JUSTICE* Sotomayor
Obama made the great SC picks. He was definitely a feminist in that he wanted more female voices in the highest court. He nominated two great women.
It’s so nice when a host allows his or her guest to speak without interruption. ( sigh)
Wow. As a disabled person and a municipality politician (not American), several things she said resonated with me.
I'm a Republican but I gotta say I found Justice Sotomayor incredibly insightful.
What a class act. Whilst I usually disagree with her decisions, I certainly respect her and admire her.
Why do you have to say you are Republican and state that you disagree with her decisions? Are you supposed to automatically oppose or dislike Democrats and announce any departure from this concept. I just don't understand how people let this division rule their lives. Like... I'm a Democrat but George Bush can RIP... 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️
It's a shame that you have to comment that you are someone on the other side who can listen objectively and appreciate her viewpoint and intelligence, even when you don't agree with her and then people complain that you did that, which is why you did that.
Like, seriously? I understand your comment. If we stop all of the My Side = Good and Your Side = Bad and really listen, it will foster a more respectful and understanding society. I don't know about everyone else, but I would like that.
Why do you disagree?
I like your attitude.
Greetings from a lefty.
@@jammzy2959 Hi! Much respect. It's good to see others that disagree with other views and yet still respect them, their views, and admire them. At the end of the day, you don't have to agree with someone else's opinion to respect them. Glad to see your comment. =)
What a wonderful human being is Judge Sotomayor
Sonia Sotomayor rules. I am thankful that she is on the court. And thank you Trevor for the interview
Sotomayor is such a humble woman.. Love from Africa
“Differently abled” an awesome phrase. I’m encouraged as a mom that loves teaching children that learn differently. I’ve met college educated women of color including law graduates living in housing projects. I’m inspired to keep helping women close the pay inequality gap.

I've said it before but I'll say it again, no one gets as good of interviews as Trevor. he gets the BEST conversations going with the MOST interesting people. here i just thought he was a pretty (ok down right gorgeous) face when he first started. damn i underestimated him.
I couldn't turn away from this interview. Absolutely beautiful.
This was beautiful, I'm autistic and clinically depressed. My symptoms makes it very hard when I'm at work because I work in customer service. I never told my my boss or coworkers but on my bad days(which is most), they can tell something is "off" about me, and I over here them talking about me coming up with theories, at another job people thought I was a drug addict. Idk how to interrupt their way of thinking because I focus on my job but it's hard trying to ignore but painfully stressful even thinking about having a conversation explaining who I am, and I feel like I shouldn't even have to because they never just ask!
Hey if your city has a Vocational Rehabilitation place, they may be able to help you...i have depression, anxiety and other mental illnesses, and their job centers around making sure people with difficulties get the correct treatment when it comes to workplace environments and disability-workplace-rights and such....! Just a thought 🙂
Thank you for sharing that. I have a brother who I believe has Asbergers but he was never diagnosed & he is in his 50's so I am able to understand your perspective. Yet, I understand the other side as well. Perhaps those people don't know how to ask; perhaps they don't want to make you uncomfortable or overstep their bounds. Perhaps they are too caught up in themselves or the problems in their own lives to reach out and see someone else. Fear is something that limits all of us in so many ways. Fear of rejection or being made fun of, yet we will never know if we don't take the step and give someone a chance. Consider this: just because someone looks "normal" does not mean they are because that doesn't exist. Every last one of us is flawed in some way. I will think of you Jonathan and hope that each day you find a strength that you can hold on to.
Hello, fellow autie! If you're in the US, you can talk to your employer's HR department about your disabilities (assuming they're documented) to request the accommodations you're entitled to. HR would be required to keep everything confidential except for telling your supervisors what accommodations you get. (At least that's the way it's supposed to work. I know there are companies that don't follow the rules.) I hope your depression gets better, and I hope you find a work environment that's conducive to productivity for you.
Being one with chronic depression and also having some physical difficulties but not strongly visible, I get judged by other men.
They look at me with eyes that say, "What's wrong with this guy? Why is he USING welfare. He can work. ...." and yadda yadda. I have no choice. I hate being on disability. I have to jump through hoops (although I don't blame having to do that), and everytime I have to explain why I need assistance I feel shame, especially the looks and raised eyebrow from some of the social workers themselves.
Then people more in my acquaintance circly wonder why I'm so withdrawn all the time. It's a stigma on a stigma.
I do see kids today slowly moving to a less judgemental stance but there is a very long way to go.
LogKnow if we ask politely, showing that we care and be there if any helps needed, surely we won’t get a terse response?
She is brilliant.. proud to have her as a Hispanic Supreme Court Justice.

Trevor has some of the most enlightening guest interviews. This is one of the many unforgettable ones. What a remarkable woman.
This is what the world needs more of

Ooooh she just broke my heart in so many pieces, in a good way, Her story resonate with me but I didn’t get why at first, I don’t have diabetes or others conditions she talk about, but at 10:32, she said dyslexia and my heart skip a bite, I was bullied all of my school years for that by every teachers I had including my moms who was my teachers when I was 10 years old. I hate being dyslexic so much, and at the time, nobody’s know to much bout this topic. I’m thankful for my philosophy professor when I was 17 who said to me that my writing was very good but different and maybe I should see a specialist because He thoughts maybe I was dyslexic. He was right, and knowledge is power, even if I can’t correct it, he help me understand that I wasn’t stupid or lazy or dumb, my brain just work a little differently than others peoples.
:) My Brother is dyslexic too. One of the things I've read about people who have trouble processing words and spelling, etc. is the fact that Dyslexic People are often entrepreneurs. People who start their own businesses and become very successful. Why? Because they have a different way of looking at things. They have to work harder to do the "normal" things that others do so easily and I wonder if it gives them a sort of strength that other poeple do not develop.
I couldn't be more proud of my Brother these days. He has built his own company from scratch and employs over fifteen people - and here he was, so frustrated in second grade. He felt "dumb" too and he was never dumb. He was just smart in a different way. (hug) Happy New Year. :)
Abracadbe, thanks for sharing your story. I hope you go from strength to strength.
Just Me 👩🎤I hear you and I too understand. My youngest son has a few acronyms attached to his school and medical records including dyslexia. He had a difficult time all throughout his youth. As his mom, I never gave up believing that he was and still is a unique individual. Today he is a fireman 🚒 and pursuing the paramedic/rescue part of his career.

My youngest son was murdered at the age of 30. Up to the day of his death he felt less than because he had Dyslexia and ADHD. I tried everything I knew to do and volunteered in his classroom. Special Education Teacher's did little then, beyond trying to meet the IEP requirements. Giving up on himself and school took him through Juvenile Court and spiraled down to where the streets can lead you. All he had was watching me and his oldest brother endure the death of his brother next to him in age. And I had my own brushes with chronic lupus flare- ups. My oldest and I both have become strengthened by our losses, tenacity and favored memories. This interview is inspirational and covered a lot of bases.🙏🏽♥️☮️🕊️

i have no idea how the justice system works .. i'm not an american to begin with .. but still, i guess the details of the rulings are more important than the ruling itself
Brings tears to my eye and will definitely be buying this book for my kids. My oldest with a micro preemie with a lot of health problems he overcame but has Asperger's Syndrome. He is so smart and unique and literally one of the kindest individuals I have ever had in my life but is extremely socially awkward and even though he is 11 is as tall as me now he's never really had a friend outside of his family and it breaks my heart. My second child who I just thought had middle child syndrome and I was so focused on my oldest turned out to have ADHD and doesn't struggle socially but does academically. People like this writing books like this really can make a difference and children's lives and could also teach other children to understand people that are not like them.
You really can be funny and still respectful, Trevor. That's art. Cudos!
