Replacing The Voltage Regulator On A 1994 Harley Davidson Dyna

- My voltage regulator stopped regulating, so it’s time to swap it out for a new one!! And it’s actually the easiest job I’ve ever had to do on this bike so far haha.

For anyone who want's to send me pictures of their bikes:
PLEASE SEND LARGE CLEAR PHOTOS!
1080p x 1080p is the MINIMUM we can work with, so please do your best at making sure your photos are large and not blurry 🙂 And send more than one if you can as well!
Email pictures to: redrider.canada.bc@gmail.com
Only motorcycle related emails please - sorry, but I just don't have the time to engage in personal conversations.
Thank you for your understanding.
If you DON'T want your bike highlighted in a future video showing viewers bikes then make sure to mention it in your email. Other than that, expect to see your bike in one of my videos!
Thanks for coming around, and I will catch ya on the flipside!
Good morning 🌅, Angel, nice simple job, you could of rapped a piece of wire or cord around cable that was removed from the regulator, so when you put the new wire/cable you tied it to the other piece of cable that you threaded through,, it will then make it easier to bring the new cable through, and yes it’s early in the morning I could not sleep, My hands are giving me very bad problems, Great to see you back home safe and sound and you’re putting Johne back in his place on the road, ❤from France
Angel, I know it is too late now, but if you tie a piece of string to the old wire before you pull it out, the string can help fish the new wire into place. Save that one for next time!
Yup Yup 🚀
Thankyou ! 👍
And they last about a year from my experience, mine would go every Laconia bike week!
Angel, love watching you work on your bikes. I think you would be a cool person to work on bikes with, ride, hang out BS about bikes. Like you, your bikes and videos. Keep them coming.
Yep, 14.2 V is right on the money !
Great job... love your out-takes, Red.
You really lucked out that the stator windings didn't get borked.
Just a side note, that 5V dual USB power supply that I gave you has a secondary advantage... when it's "on" it shows the regulator voltage all the time. It's like having a multimeter plugged into the charging system all the time, so you can see early warning signs that you may have regulator problems.
marcus
😘✌️
I have one of those USB power supplies on one of my bikes, I agree its great. I just changed my weak stator and regulator out in favor of a 3-phase system and that now that USB thing always reads 14.6. its wired into the trickle charge adapter which I don't need to use anymore :)
Good on you Angel. The "ole regulator trick." Nice job. Up and running.❤👍
14.2 is a little better than almost 18 volts! Hopefully this one will last you as many years as the stock one lasted.... Gotta say, the outtakes took this video to a whole 'nother level :)
Not to be a naysayer but hopefully your stator didn't get over taxed at the voltage it was putting out . Even though it is bathed in oil it can over heat . So don't be surprised that it may be a problem later . Good to see someone that takes on the responsibility of owning an older Harley . Good video as usual ...
Glad the fix was easy. Ride on, Angel!!
angel your out takes , are fantastic
Hahahah I really didn’t hold back with these ones hahaha. Full idiot mode lol
As the king of doofer I’d just cut the wires off the regulators and splice em back up. But for sure your way is the way to do it. ✌️
Very cool video Angel my biggest problem when using a multimeter is what to set it on depending on what I’m testing. Electrical kicks my but every time. Going to order a sticker and want to through in something to help you out in case you make it to the Camp Out in Florida in October. You take care and ride safe.
Easy fix glad you made it home safe and a simple thing to take care of the problem 😎 I actually just picked up a 94 dyna lowrider I love the old dynas 😎be safe out there 🙏💪
good job Red ya be right for pleanty miles now.... cheers
Good video of course. That’s a cool seat, like the flames
Lol...good start....knew you would fix things...good job
Glad you got it all squared away 🎉 😊 Peace ✌️
hello Lil Red
small cause big effect, I lost a regulator years ago, the battery in my Horseshoe burst, ............. you're back on the road :))
Glad you found the cause. 😃
You make it look so easy.
Well done Angel! A sleeve over the wire from the voltage regulator to the circuit breaker (with shrink tube on each end) eliminates the possibility of the wire coating chafing and shorting out. A heat gun is a better choice for the shrink tubing...if available. If you're good at soldering...a superior way to attach the terminal at the circuit breaker. Hi to you, and yours! Peace. 😊
Excellent work! Now get that trickle charger! We maintain our bikes; should we not also maintain our batteries?
You're the greatest.... a gigantic beautiful inspiration!
Angel Ienjoy your videos, and while watching this one I wanted to tell you a trick that I learned working on Air raft wiring. Hind sight if you cut the wire off at the regulator and tied your new one to it, you could pull the terminal lug side and fished it through that way. Great job though.
You are almost as fast as Super Man .
I haven't changed the relay regulator yet...
The battery charge "dropped" when one stator circuit shorted out.
I replaced the stator and the required 14.2 volts returned to us✌🤠
Red good job I like how you tell us si easy terms and fix things yourself very good job your really cool :)
You fixed it just like a pro. Next time hook a small wire or string onto the old feed wire. Then it's easier to pull the wire back thu the chassis.
HD is having a recall on 40,000 2024 bikes do to a Regulator wire shorting out. They need to add a zip tie if the wire had not been rubbed bare yet.
Good job Red. Just some useless information for you, on my Twin cam what you still think is the regulator plug is now the crankshaft speed sensor. And it is right in the way to get the oil filter out on my 2012 Electra Glide. There is the regulator, oil cooler with lines and the speed sensor all in the way. Only way to get the filter out is with a notched out oil filter socket. I notched out my own. Fun fun fun. Enjoy that EVO.
Your the best !! Great video as usual!!!
Оу, судя по тому, что Ангел не в майке-алкашке, а в тёплой кофте, в Канаде наступила осень.. Как мы у нас на Юге понимаем, что наступила осень!? - все начинают носить шорты и куртку 🤷♂️😂
I like to use a voltage gauge, so I can monitor it when I start up and during my rides.
That’s the way to do it!
Gotta laugh, you have the same paint scheme I do on my '83 Super Glide tanks, IE low budget😛
Tremclad rattle can for the win with this broke biker lol 🙌
Not just Harleys. My Honda's voltage regulator crapped out, and cost me a new battery.
I approve this message…
I was told by a mechanic you never cut the wire to the voltage regulator if it's a bad one they won't take it back with the wire being cut
Nobody takes back installed electronics. They are too easily damaged internally by other bad components
@@tommylitchfield3450 they will in Texas I was told by the guy at the shop that I bought the regulator if the wire hadn't been cut he would be glad to exchange it
@@brianvandever143 The wire didn't have an end on it, straight outta the box. There's no way to tell if it had been shortened slightly unless there is a listed length printed somewhere. It was meant for the customer to cut to length and have the included terminal installed. That would be the only way to see if the part worked, and again, electronics that get damaged by installation are undetectable in most cases, so parts makers won't take back "used" electronics. Even if Red left the wire full length, she would still have had to install the connector on the wire and install the regulator, so even your dealer would not have taken it back, since it was not re-sellable as new-in-box, since the next guy would have a terminal installed already.
I went back and watched it again and she clearly states that it had an end on The Wire so if you're going to try and pick an argument at least know what you're talking about
@@brianvandever143 I watched it once, and she clearly installed the included fitting and included heat shrink.
Tow truck.. Nikolai had a case with a tow truck: I went to the mountains by car to take a walk there. On the way back, my rear tire jammed. The regular jack when lifting the car turned out to be like a house of cards (the reliability of things of the 21st century ..), in addition to this, I could not unscrew the wheel (before this case, I had seasonal tires changed at the service, apparently the employee does not know how to use a pneumatic pistol). I found the phone numbers of several tow trucks, but the price was too high. I explained in detail to one of them what had happened and that I needed tools, everything he had, since I could repair everything myself.. Anyway, he arrived, and I told him, "Bring all the tools." And do you know what he brought? Pliers and one wrench, the size of which is absolutely useless. As a result, I called my father and my dad brought a car full of spare parts and tools, so that a complete overhaul could be done. Appreciate your loved ones, only they care about us❤.
Ps: the owner of the tow truck demanded money from me 😂🤷♂️... The problem of the jammed wheel was obvious to me - the brake pad was detached from the pad (21st century quality).
That’s that square thing.❤
Love ❤️ your vids from New Brunswick eh
You can ruin the Alternator on a car trying to charge a dead battery. If your battery is really low charge it with a battery charger.
good job !
❤
🤙
I once had a electrical problem and some of the wiring melted lucky I had a kick-start but my lights where dead lucky it happend in daytime
Red, How did you know the old regulator was bad?
Hi, you ever think of a magneto in place of the distributor.
That’s that square thing.
Woot hello red
HI 🏆🏆
😊😊
COMMENT!! HAPPY 😅DAYS 😊 ETC.ETC!!!
Easy acess
Sure is a battery killa ''
Overcharge will chew a cell ...
👍🐾
✌️❤️
Not first!!
Lol nope
id have soldered
I was thinking of doing that too. But none of the other factory ends are soldered so I decided to just keep it the same. I don’t ride this bike around in bad weather or anything anyway.
@@RedRiderCanadaBC if you run into the solder fits check out weather head fittins they have alsorts of copper fitting , be you girl ,, its nice to watch a human not a internet star , be you
@@RedRiderCanadaBC…. I like those marine grade shrink tubing with the sealant that oozes out the ends for waterproofing.
Nice Job,Babe...love you 😘
