I did a 35 day tour of the EU on my Ultra Classic, alone and camping. Where I did not sit was taken up with extra luggage bags plus a tank bag. I like my comfort and the side panniers don’t allow room for carrying large solid camping gear.
The saddle bags are useful most of the time but I could see how that would be an issue at times. I hope you enjoyed your tour. That is a great way to get away from the day to day issues.
Nice video! Thanks for putting it together. All that gear plus a passenger really changes things. Looks like you handled all the bumps along the way very well. Motorcycle camping is the best way to see the US. Glad to see you had a great time!
I have an 06 Electra Glide and I love it. Just has the 88 so yours has more power but I've never had any issues and the bike is so smooth at 70-80 mph that sometimes I think I might fall asleep while riding. Love to camp. Nice video man.
Thanks, it makes my day to hear from the viewers. I had an 2004 similar to the one I have now in but white. Loved it. Sold it a while back. Then missed the trips in it so bought a newer version. They are pretty close. The wheel base is slightly longer and a little more power but otherwise they are pretty close. No real reason to change if yours is running well. I thought about the new Milwaukee 8 engine but not sure if it’s worth trading up for.
@@MotorcycleAuthority I like mine. I'll make improvements to it if necessary, like maybe adding a 6 speed. But the bike belonged to my best friend who I lost to cancer back in 2015 so selling it ever is not an option. I would just repair and upgrade as necessary. Good channel man. Keep up the content. I'm watching. 🙂🙂🙂
My Electriglide Ultra Classic is 20 years old this spring. My wife and I did many camping trips on it. Eighty-eight ci was, and is enough power to set the cruise on 90 and two up ride across several states in a day. Loaded it will wallow through corners at alow speed. The first 5 feet and the last 5 feet of a ride segment are where you need to be aware. Loaded it will eat a rear tire in 3,000 - 5,000 miles. I figured close to 1,200 pounds loaded. Don't put cheap tires on it, keep an eye on the brake pads, keep synthetic oil in it, and they will last. I promised my wife I would be done with the big bikes by the time I turn 70. I may have lied. I have several bikes I own and ride, so this one only has 70,000 miles on it. It may outlast me.
Just a suggestion Sir. Adjustable tourpak rail(more room for passenger), adjustable passenger foot pegs(both at Kuryakyn). She will be more comfortable. Also for both, boots, chaps(guard against engine heat), gloves and leather jacket. Stay warm and protected. Ride safe.
In addition, for passenger comfort try the Kuryakyn adjustable passenger foot pegs. Also the adjustable tourpak rack. You are able to slide the pak back a couple inches. Does sound like much but it makes a difference in passenger comfort.
Nice! I used to camp with my Honda pc800. It had the lifting rear end that revealed two built in panniers! It was a very practical bike. I do agree that the stresses of life fade away. Thank you for takng the time to make this video.
Beautiful Motorcycle ! Beautiful trip !! I just came across your channel in my feed actually. I'm happy to support your efforts and those of other fellow moto content creators. I look forward to seeing and hearing more from you in the future ; keep up the great work and ride safe out there.
I did stop that (LOL) the speed adjustment on video really brought that out. It is a good bike. I made the tour pack removable and made a video about that.
Hello! Greetings from Argentina!. I have a Forty eight 2017 but I am looking for more comfort and autonomy and an Ultra Classic 2008 occurred to me, what do you think of my idea? It is very crazy!?
I think you would enjoy it. It is much bigger and heavier than a sportster. So as you as you are ok with that, go ahead. It is better for longer rides than the smaller ones in many ways.
I know it's been awhile since you made this. Hopefully your wife is wearing boots. When, not if, you go down life is easier when you have all you toes.
My wife tries the same thing. I'm fearful of something happening like a wreck but more fearful of what her father will do to me lol.@@MotorcycleAuthority
Lol, I can understand that. Your comment was not for nothing. I brought it up that there were comments about her flip flops on the motorcycle ( 2nd one that I saw) and she said her best friend said the same thing. After all this talk now she sees how bad of an idea it really is. So, problem is fixed. Thanks!
Picking up 2011 Ultra Classic this weekend. Can't wait
Nice, you will love it, I bet! Hopefully, you will get to go on trips soon.

It makes it worth all the effort when people enjoy it. Thanks for commenting

Good advice! I’m not sure either when I’ll be done with the big bikes. Keep riding!

Thanks, that is good advice. I haven’t considered the adjustable passenger pegs. I’ll check them out.

Great video! Just bought an ultra limited last week.
I bet you’re enjoying it!
Great video. Safety tip. Your wife should wear appropriate boots. Flip flops could be disaster.
Thanks, you are right about the flip flops!
Muito obrigado pelo vídeo, você me motivou a ter este sonho na garagem, obrigado e um abraço do Brasil 🤜
Thank you for sharing your dream with us. Enjoy the riding! It’s great to have friends in Brazil.
Good video. No flip flops on a bike!
I know, I just can’t get everyone to agree lol. Thanks! I also forgot my riding boots so I can’t say too much 😃
할리데이비슨 정말 멋있네요
Thank you!
Kind of scary pulling out with the jiffy stand down. Jessh.
Yep, all the cameras and extra stuff for filming mess with your routine. But, we decided to leave the blooper in as a funny.
Also, I forgot to put on boots on as well. Not my best day.
European models have a cut-out switch if you put it in gear while stand is still down.
Looks like a fun ride. I hope you’ve quit the “duck walking.” 3:55

Who makes those windshields with the vents in them
www.clearviewshields.com
Make custom windshields with vents if ordered.

Yo, Tyler TX!
Guy sounds like roger Wakefield
Is that the plumber on UA-cam or a different guy?
I know it's been awhile since you made this. Hopefully your wife is wearing boots. When, not if, you go down life is easier when you have all you toes.
She is on board with the boots. The flop flops are great until something goes wrong then you wished for the boots. Thanks again
As a driver on a motorcycle, I rarely forget that things can go bad. Maybe as a passenger it’s not on the forefront as much. Not sure…
Next time..boots please.
Fair enough, it is much better protection.
And gloves? You have no protective gear should you take a slide down the road.
Sorry man. I prefer the flip flops.
Letting your wife ride in flip flops? Solid choice
I can’t say you’re wrong. I just haven’t consistently won that battle. Helmets are none negotiable.

Are you interested in testing a handguard product? We'd like to invite you to shoot a test video.

If you have to ask stupid questions just stay home
Lol
Is this a commercial for Harley. Geez. Also. Dress her for the slide, not the ride.
I have been saying that for years but I don’t always win that one. And I forgot my riding boots too on that one😳
