(sorry about all caps) MY PROBLEM IS THAT THE SEAT BELT IS TWISTED INSIDE THE RETRACTOR, SO IT WON'T PULL OUT, AND IT CAN'T BE PUSHED BACK IN. ISN'T THERE A 'LOCK' OR A 'LEVER' THAT CAN DISENGAGE THE RETRACTOR AND ALLOW THE BELT TO BE PULLED ALL THE WAY OUT TO UNTWIST IT?
If the car has been in an accident the retractor permanently locks up and must be replaced or sent out for repair. Such is the case on my '07 Mustang. There is a gas charge and sensor built into the retractor. If this is what you have then you can pull on it until the cows come home and it won't budge. Stupid video.
For anyone having problems with a belt removed from the vehicle, the reason he bolts it in first is because the retractor is meant to lock if held at any other angle than what is intended while in place. I played tug of war with this damn thing for 20 minutes before realizing I just had to hold it upright…
Wait so I went to install one and let it roll all the way up and it locked, won’t move in or out driving me nuts cause I just got it. You’re telling me all I gotta do to unlock it is have it level up and down?! I’ve been tugging on it daily every now and then like wtf!!😂
Video doesn't show how to sort it in a car, and it didn't show how to get the seat belt to retract when the seat belt is locked fully unwound with no give.
This video is useless. If a seat belt will work like it should, no one would need to try to find a solution to why it won't. Complete waste of time and bandwidth.
The lock mechanism engages if the car's on an incline, etc. so it will also engage if you don't have the part oriented exactly the same way it will be when installed. So hold it upright, give it a couple of taps and/or wiggle the belt a bit, the lock will release. Pull the belt out slowly. Might take a few tries, but it shouldn't require any extreme measures.
Well, what do you know? I swear I tried pulling it dozens of times before. But as soon as I watched this video and tried it worked. Thanks! If your seatbelt doesn’t have enough slack you could try removing the other end of the belt.
Tried this about 11 times on my Ford Explorer and just about when I was going to say "What a wast of time!", BOOM - it finally worked! Thanks for the video!
Hey everyone... grab the seat belt just in front of the retractor and pull the shit out of it straight up .. let it roll back in a bit slowly then pull all the way out .. trick is to pull the hell out of it from the get go
So I let my new seatbelt on my 2008 Beetle roll all the way up during installation and it locked... won’t go in or out. Been trying to tug on it forever but stays locked. If I put it back on the car and pull it hard it’ll unlock??? Mind boggling if true as it’s so simple yet been driving me crazy for 3 days. Anyone confirm if this is my problem and the way to fix it?
Not working on my Peugeot middle rear passenger seat.. locked tight wont even give a inch nothing is working on it..this didnt work no spraying of anything works its locked for life lol..
Is there lever in the retractor that I can push to manually disengage it? I cant pull no web to give it slack and I'm sure 99% of the people coming to this video have already tried that lol... Wheres the manual override tab or lever...
Trying to release the belt by holding the housing in your hand IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM, you cannot hold still while holding the housing in one hand and try to pull with the other, is like going down a bumpy road and trying to release the belt, it will simply lock up on you. First thing you do is firmly bolt it in the correct direction perpendicular to the floor, roll in the spool a bit and jerk the belt up...it will release if is not broken. I have sold thousands of new replacement out of eBay, originally made for the Humvee, but will work on the most of other vehicles and sometimes I have a customer calling with a "stuck" belt...thanks to UPS being so gentle with the package.. "rolling eyes" and 99.9% is because they did not read the instructions and try to release the belt but holding the housing in their hands.
Works for me. After a sudden stop my seat belt locked, belt didn't retract or pull out. Took the whole seat belt out to inspect. Then holding the seat belt in the same upright position as it installed in the car I was able to manually wind a little belt (maybe 1/2 turn) on the spool then pull the belt straight up. Did this 2-3 times then boom it released and retractor worked as it should, just like the video.
The secret people is very gentle pulling it out. If you can roll it by hand with your left hand and pull it with the right one. It seemed impossible but it worked. Also try gentle taps. The mechanism is just doing it's job! Good luck
On most seatbelts there is a removable sode cover and you can just use a screw driver to release the locking ball and then take a lot of seatbelt length out
IT WORKED, it didn't in my hands, but as soon as I fixed it in the pillar, it took a few pulls and it finally came out, Al Hamdulillah, and thanks for the video bro
Mine is stuck tight for no reason I can see. It will not let you pull on it at all. Sooooo...went out, popped the molding away from the area of the drivers side, naturally, seat belt attachment & pushed something on the side which then released it again, so thank you so much for your video.
Just tried this on my 2009 Spectra that I have not been able to budge for months. Just double fisted pulled on this and boom. WORKED! Thanks! Now I can put both my rear seats down!
I extracted a working seatbelt assembly from a junk car to swap into my 2007 Saab 9-3. Removal on site was flawless but upon inspecting piece, the belt sucked itself into the spool before I could stop it and now the entire thing is inside the spool! Is this video the correct solution?
You guys! This video is NOT a waste of time. The trick is to INSTALL the seatbelt or hold it perfectly vertically and SLOWLY. Keep doing it and you’ll see how it unlocks.
Didnt really help as theirs no slack on mine to pull at all. I own a 53 plate citroen berlingo multispace i folded the seats down now i cant get the seats to go back in the upright position. Any ideas on what to do
Thankyou so much for the video as this worked brilliantly and saved me a lot of frustration when I thought I’d cut corners when re-fitting the drivers side seat belt fixture after having the worn webbing replaced. Much appreciated.
Thank you! This was very helpful. I used it to fix a locked belt on an older car. The key was to do as you suggested - pull hard on the belt for long enough to tighten the belt on the spool. As you said, this allowed the spool to turn sufficiently when the belt was released to unlock it. I have put a permanent clip on the belt to prevent it from happening again. Contrary to what some (probably very frustrated folks) have commented, this video was excellent help. So simple, too.
In this case (a 2003 Chev Cavalier), the clip didn't help. The belt locked again when the clip stopped it at the slot to the spool. However, pulling hard and steadily on the belt for several seconds to tighten the belt on the spool, and then letting go of the belt released the lock again. It has locked a couple of times since then, but the method just described worked every time. Why it should have started spooling too loosely is hard to say, but the car is 16 years old. The driver's side belt has never locked (knock wood). Thanks again for this easy solution. I was getting ready to head to the wrecker's to get a new retractor, and considering how to cut a hole in the paneling to get at the current one.
I have to say it worked for me, managed to pull it tight to free it about an inch and then hey presto it worked... Garage had told me that they need to take the mechanism to pieces.. but this worked. thanks.
I was skeptical with the ease fix. But it does work. First make sure the retractor is straight with the belt as in the video, then after releasing it a little bit, you should hear a faint click, pull the belt at that moment, continue to do so for more access to the belt
No. This video is totally worthless. There is no slack in the belt, the bolts cannot be removed without cutting them off with a grinder or torch and the belt will not retract to release.
Yeah but the retractor on my Chrysler Sebring, Cirrus body IS defective. Factory defective, that they never recalled. It'll go aaaaall the way out, then all the way in and stay locked. This is not the video I'm looking for.
The ones with the plastuc casing usually a japanese car are just easy, simply take the side plastic the one housing the retractor and it will easily get loosen, usually its because the rubber stopper has expired and deteriorated so instead of giving back a slack it'll just eat it. Once you take that out it will have a direct link and no useless stopper to cut off everytime you pull it out.
thanks for the short and sweet video. exactly the problem we ran into in the parking lot of the zoo w/ our 9 y.o. daughter. luckily we have a 3rd row and could safely move her back for the ride home. just as you explained and we are back in business.
thank you very much!!!! straight forward, to the point, time saving and worked perfectly. easy tip for everyone else, pull the seat belt straight up and use a lil muscle, worked just like the video shows.
The pyro sensor in the seat belt pretensioner could be bad. Most likely need to replace the seat belt pretensioner. You can buy a used one on www.eBay.com or send your seat belt for repair at www.myairbags.com Here is Video link ua-cam.com/video/xT5tiT2A78w/v-deo.html
i been sitting here for a full hour pulling as the video said.. my seatbelt is still fucking locked
This video really pissed me off. Waste!
How can one pull the belt out if it's stuck in the retractor?
Guy in video is a bitch
(sorry about all caps)
MY PROBLEM IS THAT THE SEAT BELT IS TWISTED INSIDE THE RETRACTOR, SO IT WON'T PULL OUT, AND IT CAN'T BE PUSHED BACK IN. ISN'T THERE A 'LOCK' OR A 'LEVER' THAT CAN DISENGAGE THE RETRACTOR AND ALLOW THE BELT TO BE PULLED ALL THE WAY OUT TO UNTWIST IT?
Completely UNHELPFUL

This may be the worst video of all time.
My chocolate tea pot is more useful than this video

THIS!!!!!!! THANKS!
This just fucked my seat belt even more

You can remove the other end of the seatbelt to get more slack. Something tells me you probably shouldn’t be installing one yourself anyway
@@fredjr.8691 Thank you, although that would have been useful 2 years ago! ;)
Not working for me mone doesnt come out its inside the seat😢😢

Justine Larsen thank you!!(
Holy crap Justine Larson ....I did like you said..Bolted it in place & voila it unlocked..
Thank you, you really saved this video and a lot of frustration on my part.
I had my car on a hill, taking it to a plane solved it, thank you!
Had to comment, this worked perfectly
Was looking for a belt stuck that is already installed in the car. I.e., what the car comes with.
Well, what do you know? I swear I tried pulling it dozens of times before. But as soon as I watched this video and tried it worked. Thanks! If your seatbelt doesn’t have enough slack you could try removing the other end of the belt.
Ditto!
Haha that doesn't work!
Tried this about 11 times on my Ford Explorer and just about when I was going to say "What a wast of time!", BOOM - it finally worked! Thanks for the video!
ಠ_ಠ these responses
It didn't work
Ok, but this happened on a vehicle that already has the seatbelt installed, and been that way for 20 plus years. It's never happened before 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️

Worked on the first try for me in a 2006 Ford Fusion rear seats belt. Thanks!
I almost gave up on it. Then I found this video. It worked!! Thank you!
Mine is stuck tight for no reason I can see. It will not let you pull on it at all.

He's right
I just did this to my 2015 chrysler 200 and its worked for me
"regardless of who manufactured it..."
It would be nice if one of the manufacturers would choose to design the piece correctly.
Still has not engage I bought 2 and both are stuck help asap

It worked like magic, Just try it!
Works. Point S messed up my seatbelt. I had to in unbreak it
I give this video thumbs up for starting comments on this issue. Reading the comments below lead me to one that was my fix. Hooray for UA-cam!
Didnt really help as theirs no slack on mine to pull at all. I own a 53 plate citroen berlingo multispace i folded the seats down now i cant get the seats to go back in the upright position. Any ideas on what to do

Most have a roll over safety installation. Just make sure the car or seatbelt cartridge is straight up and down, and pull slowly perfectly upwards.

worked perfectly for me. i was at the point where i thought i was going to have to source a new belt. thanks!
Can I switch my LHS with RHS 3rd row seat belts on 2009 Acura MDX?
It really helped me. Thank you!!!
It didn't work and now my pants are gone
I have to say it worked for me, managed to pull it tight to free it about an inch and then hey presto it worked... Garage had told me that they need to take the mechanism to pieces.. but this worked. thanks.

It took many pills but it worked for my belt!
Thank you!!
Saved the day, Thanks!

just as you explained and we are back in business.
Um... Hello? Maybe change the title here. There's nothing on this video about UNDOING the locked seatbelt.
thank you very much!!!! straight forward, to the point, time saving and worked perfectly. easy tip for everyone else, pull the seat belt straight up and use a lil muscle, worked just like the video shows.
Ridiculous and oversimplified video. There are many reasons why the seat belt system does not retract.
you saved me dude, couldn't pass my safety test because of it
Great video, took me 2 minutes to unlock my seatbelt.
Thanks, this helped me.
Absolutely did not work. Had to cut my seatbelt off
Why is the internet so fcking annoying. I cant find the answer anywhere. That shit is not working so whats a different way
--It worked! Thx-- i lied. Its actually a button type thing under the roller
A hot sounding narrator has never educated me so hard...
Right?
The pyro sensor in the seat belt pretensioner could be bad. Most likely need to replace the seat belt pretensioner. You can buy a used one on www.eBay.com
or send your seat belt for repair at www.myairbags.com
