SS United States: The Bloomquists Go to Europe in 1964 Pt. 2

Here's Part Two of some fabulous 8mm color home movies of the Bloomquist family's trip to Europe aboard the SS United States in 1964! Mr. Bloomquist was serious about his family films, and apparently traveled with lighting equipment sufficient to shoot interiors of their Tourist Class Stateroom, the ship's gymnasium (for a very amusing workout), and even the kids cavorting in the indoor pool. Even niftier, he edited the footage with homemade titles, and selected the accompanying music which came with the film on a reel-to-reel audio tape. Although there's some audio distortion here and there, I must say, I couldn't have chosen the tunes better myself! The film has a total running time of over 20 minutes, so I've cut it into two parts for UA-cam. Enjoy!

Thank you for posting this. Note the aluminum lounge chairs. When they said that the only thing made of wood on the ship was the cutting board, they weren't kidding.

What a wonderful post - I thouroughly enjoyed seeing the Big U from inside and out - beautiful ship. Love the Bloomquists too - I could see myself as Master Bloomquist loving life aboard the United States in the 60s. "My Foolish Heart" performed by Frank DeVol and his Orchestra on the album Essential Easy Listening. Shazam on the iPhone is kind of mind boggling. It can "listen" to these old warbly reel to reel tapes and still identify the song. Amazing.

Nice that Mr. Bloomquist brought along his flood lights with his camera for interior shots. We don't usually see inside shots on these ships with 8mm home movie cameras. Also hope the Bloomquists are continuing to do well.
