This is why I love this channel. Other people magnetize bases, Marco magnetizes whole tables. EDIT: Marco, you must say the "ee" in "sheets" a bit longer :'D
For the walkways: I would glue magnets under the movable paths and use thin sheet of metal on edges of buildings that the magnets can attach. It would take some work to hide the metal, but basically same way you used to cover the base of your board. This way you can attach the walkways to any part of the structure.
So, how about this: can parts be resin cast with fine iron powder added such that the components would be attracted to magnets? You could cast parts of the roof edge or battlements or similar in this method then add magnets to the walkways. You wouldn't have to hide strips of steel because the components would already by embedded with iron particles.
Okay first I thought "why would I do that", but then again, just put it on a wall like a painting and were nobody usually walks by and its an awesome way to store your board.
You can countersink small 3-4 mm neodymium magnets to the tops of the walls where the walkways go, and the same magnets to the bottoms of the walkways so that they "click" into place. Just make sure you get the polarity right! This is such a cool idea, Marco. I'm totally going to steal this for my gaming kotatsu.
As a man who loves magnets, terrain, and space saving ideas, this video was great. Awesome idea and amazing end product. That oil wash is incredible for transforming your terrain.
Thanks a million 😊😁😊 I found the metal base on a UK website that makes cuts on demand (I think something like Metals4You); of course they stopped shipping outside UK, but there a ton of these webstores or local businesses providing that kind of stuff 😉
Marco, just when we think you’ve given us everything we need you blow our minds with something new and inspirational get ready for an era of magnetic gaming tables and terrain thank you brother 🤘
Couple of ideas for walkways: You could fit some sort of buttress to some of the walls of the buildings that could then act as a point for the walkways to lay across. Alternatively, what about the edges of the frame? If you're just after storage, magnets installed on the frame could cover it.
Great idea, that certainly is proof of concept. Agree with you about the static boards. Will be interesting to see if you can do a full 6" by 4" board.
Hi Marco!! I love your videos. You are a real artist, and you do a wonderful job talking about what you do. This project is fantastico! You have my mind racing about my own terrain now. I love the beautiful warm reddish tones you achieved on the wooden parts of the starter box terrain. Could you please do a video about that terrain? ...or at least give me a basic idea of how to achieve that look? Thanks for all you do!
It's a bit fragile though, maybe - put it away from any corridor where you regularly walk by, else one day you'll bump your shoulder into your precious minis!
Only a day or two ago I was thinking how cool it would be to have a vertical board with catwalks, ladders/stairs and other platforms to allow for some horizontal movement. Magnets are a great idea!
Oh man, this sort of thing was my dream when I was 12. I ended up using a large sheet of chipboard which ended up warping due to pva glue. Also, it wasn't magnetized as we didn't have that kind of tech in the hobby back then so I kept my scatter terrain in boxes which greatly limited how much I could have.
I had considered doing this for a transportation case for a Kill Team, but never did it because I didn't think texturing the metal sheet would allow the minis to stick to it again afterwards, it's great to know that not only it's possible, but even works with *terrain!* fantastic job! :D
Simply brilliant! I will definitely be making one of these for a buddy's house that we play at. It will definitely help with his lack of space. Thanks so much for the awesome idea!
it seems to have adhered just fine but I would suggest sanding the metal lightly to rough it up before applying terrain. I was also wondering if it might be better to spray on a layer of metal primer but that may not be necessary.
I use an incredibly tough PVA for this kind of works 😉 There's no real stress applied on the texture and with the edges protected by the frame everything is super solid
So many great ideas! I would've given the big metal plate a crosswise sanding with 80-120 grit to give the pva more grip, especially around the edges where it tends to peel loose.
@@MarcoFrisoniNJM Right, good point, I forgot they were hidden anyway. Btw many thanks for your awesome series on oilpainting! You've become my favorite youtube artist overnight. Incorporating traditional knowledge in model painting: This is The Way to move forward.
Another great vid and idea. My initial thought was ...would mixing in metal filings with your terrain mix to help increase the hold of the magnetic sheet material.
love this idea I have been working on this idea too but using 3d printed terrain I was going to make use of a magnetic paint as a base coat. That idea might help you with the walkways and bridges
Magnetic... paint? How effective is that? I have a board worth of tall buildings and a tendency to use special rules which allow me to have models on walls. If paint can provide enough to magnetise to that would have a lot of potential.
This is so cool! For bonus storage optimization, you could make your sheet double-sided. For example, wasteland on one side and grassland on the other.
This is why I love your channel mate....I use magnets all the time with mini's but never considered making a board using them!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!!
This is by far the coolest idea of storing a Gaming board, great Made, funny and foundated explaned as usally for you. Ím realy magnetized with this idea.
I'm always so jealous!! You make some of the most awesome stuff. Super creative. Once I'm done painting this barbarian I'm working on I'm going to start my 1st diorama!! Woot woot!
Brilliant video. I was just considering magnetizing terrain for storage and how that might work AND I was thinking about trying my new spray cans on some terrain! Can't wait to try this.
This is why I love this channel. Other people magnetize bases, Marco magnetizes whole tables.

😂😂😂😂😂
5:48 magnetic shits, hearing this is even better then just reading about it.
Magnetic shits are the people complaining when something isn't magnetized :D
@@Ainar86 HAHAHAHAHAHAHA :'D
Lol I was just about to comment the same thing 😂🤣
Using the picture frame is such a good idea
Thanks a million man!!! Super appreciated 😊😊😊!!!
Scott, go make one too! Wall magnetized terrain build-off go! Hehe
Fantastic!
😍😊😍 Thanks a million man!!!

A gaming kotatsu is quite possibly the most civilised thing I've ever heard of.
The most underrated channel on youtube (ok, ok, the most underrated one i watch).
Fantastic was looking for guidance on this. Thank you
Crazy good idea! Blends the terrain into the table too. Now if mat makers can hop on this and make magnetic mats
As a man who loves magnets, terrain, and space saving ideas, this video was great. Awesome idea and amazing end product. That oil wash is incredible for transforming your terrain.
Can I please like this more than once!!? @Marco could you provide some information on where you sourced the metal sheet?
Thanks a million 😊😁😊 I found the metal base on a UK website that makes cuts on demand (I think something like Metals4You); of course they stopped shipping outside UK, but there a ton of these webstores or local businesses providing that kind of stuff 😉

Love your little happy laughs of victory, great to see!
How could I not subscribe after that charisma in the intro, tho? What a likable guy.
😁😍😁😘
Wow!! Great idea!!! 🤟👏🤟👏🤟👏
This is such a cool idea, I started building one for myself as well.
This is such a brilliant idea! Glad to see that nothing fell off!

You could pressure different forms into the steel plate, or use a hammer. to get some mountains, or small hills. or a lake.
First time checking your channel out. That spray can techniques was really cool.
Genius!!
Jas😳👍

I'm already working on a 4'x4' 😁😉
Perfect Idea for a platformer style version of Necromunda...!! Have the whole game played on the wall..
I love your videos you’re such a nice positive chap - and I’ve used a lot of your ingenious painting tips. Keep up the good work Marco!!! 👍🏻
good solution for zero-gravity environments...!

EPIC plan, I am sooo combining this with my printable scenery collection :) I can even model the holes in before printing :)
Omg! I love this idea - and I am undertaking this project immediately while I have time off from my usual work!
Love you Marco, my fav hobby youtuber!!!

Try to use Blue-Tac/Pat-a-fix to hold bridges and walkways in place.

Thanks 😁 Good advice! I skipped the sanding step only because I know well my PVA and all my edges are tightly locked under the frame

Uhhh, this is such an incredible idea. I will try this for my Super Fantasy Brawl Lava Board
Amazing!! Your the best!!! Love ur videos dude!! Thanks
Very cool idea! Would love to hear your recipe for the oil wash
This channel rules! If you don't mind me asking what's the ratio for the light oil wash? one part black oil paint to ten parts white spirit?
Love this vid! Great and creative idea!
