Hey :) I’m Christian Schaffer, and I’ve lived on the road full-time since May 2018. This journey began in 2013 when I left the corporate world to build my career as an outdoor adventure & travel photographer. After 14 months of SUV living - I bought the van I now call home. Van life enables me to experience and document the beauty of our natural world, while also having my home and office nearby. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to hit the road or spend more time outdoors. Maybe one day I'll see you out on that open road 🚐

Each time you post is like coming to a home you didn't know you had. From the beautiful images, to the books you read (I've got two copies of "Lighter" just in case a friend wants to borrow one), to the music (The Neighborly? -- yes please), even to your dreams (I'll move to Scandinavia -- one day!). I love how you can enjoy luxurious views, friends, homes, opportunities, but yet it's clear you don't get trapped by those things or seek them. I so relate. Things can change on a dime when living in a van and leading a nomadic lifestyle. Just did a house-sit in the Bay Area, then had to get work done on my van in Santa Cruz, fell off my bike there, sprained my wrist, and now I am in Santa Cruz for a few weeks staying right by the ocean, allowing my body to heal before being able to move on. Had to let go of roadtrip plans to Idaho and Wyoming but I am okay with it. Sometimes I feel that the universe is intentionally trying to make me s l o w d o w n . . . 😇

N I C E - You brought back good memories Christian. As a young man I spent 8 years of my life in the USMC. I was fortunate to travel on the seas and a stint with the Norwegian military enabled me to see their country, it's beauty and the amazing fjords. I wish I had taken pictures. Being stationed at Camp Pendleton for 3 years enabled me to become a beach bum on the shores of Oceanside and shoot down to Pacific Beach to a bakery there in SanDiego for the best raisin bran muffins ever. You make me happy every time I see your beautiful footage.

I've been in Norway a couple of years ago but up over the Arctic Circle in winter, mid february. When the sun is rising at 9AM and and setting at 3PM. The pink sky, that as an amateur photographer I'm always looking for, lasts not for minutes like here in Italy or seconds like in the Caribbean where I used to live a few years ago, but hours! litteraly. And the northen lights...the most amazing thing I ever see in my entire life. Would be nice to see what you can make there in winter season. It would surely be a masterpiece.
Your work is like a Blue Diamond, the quality is so hard to find that it is priceless! It's a blessing for Norway that someone with your talent/skills is there to capture the beauty of this country! Looking forward to the new content as always, keep up the good work, much appreciated! :)

I've of course loved most of your content and have commented on occasions. But something about this one spoke to me. Perhaps because I feel at peace by the ocean and the lifestyle that comes with it. The overhead ocean shot with the surfer paddling out at 3:18 was stunning. The music you choose to go with your images always gives me a sense of longing that I cannot explain. A melancholy. Your videos are often a double edge sword for me. Looking forward to the next one.

I love the “ice plant” ground cover along the Cal coast. Such pretty flowers! When I was in infantry training north of Carmel-by-the-Sea in 1969 (Ft. Ord), I used to find it so comforting to lie down in the ice plant beds for some peaceful rest break time during combat training…. No ice plant or peace in Vietnam. I’ve been watching your channel thru a nightmare illness and you allowed me to have some escape. Your craft and artistry get some shade from your depth… many of your shares are insightful and reinforce my drive and dreams..I’m on the road now for 5 months and waving magic wands to 9:35 make enough to thrive but I sit here in a spectator spot in Southwest mountains in my 04 Avalon, healing and growing .
