Bryan Holmes was an amazing and underrated drummer. While not as flashy, he had all the skills of Stewart Copeland of The Police in his prime - AND he managed to play his dynamic and complex parts while singing background harmony vocals. This was a great band!
as a drummer growing up he along with Stewart were influences. THEN they started playing a college near me. Thank God my friend had a Big Brother (tm) that attended the school. I was 13 or 14 drinking beer listening to THE PRODUCERS!!! WOW
Back 5 years later.... with another comment. The drums aint no joke on this tune. They all are very good but it's the total package of how this song develops and the chorus is so nice. 80s synth rock/pop.... magical times.
They were great, use to see them all the time in Atlanta, unluckiest band of all time, should have been huge, wrong music, wrong time, just like Mothers Finest
Kyle put an end to The Producers. But 3 of them live here in Atlanta area. They have done some reunion shows over the last 10 years. I was ask to play drums with Van Temple in his band Reasons Y. But I was already in a steady band and could not do it. About a year later The Producers started their reunion shows. A choice well made. But still love seeing them.
Every song they wrote was great. I mean harmonies, structure, fun, etc. I have 2 albums and every song is a masterpiece. I am a musician and starting to play their songs again. Great movers!!! Thank you guys for the great music.
Saw these guys in Austin,TX in 1983 and became an instant fan. They rocked the house with great musicianship, clean harmonies and really good songs like this power pop classic. A particular treat was watching Wayne Famous bounce and bob around the stage wearing that keyboard. His expressions and almost comic enthusiasm reminded me of Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen. They were and still are awesome.
This is one of my all-time favorite songs. They've never been on iTunes, and I've never found their albums. Now, I've found this and some of their other songs, most of which I don't think I ever heard because they didn't get the recognition they deserved. This song is like audio espresso to me.
@@joesassenberger Hi Joe, hoping you can help me. I bought the double album on CD of "The Producers / You Make the Heat" for 50 bucks on Amazon, but the last 6 songs weren't readable. I returned the CD and got another, but the last 4 songs weren't readable. The CD is great. It was released in 2000, and both albums were remastered and it sounds really good. So I found the last 4 songs in MP3 form on Amazon, but those are crap sounding, and iTunes won't let me put them all in the same album. I'm wondering of you have .wav versions of the songs: You make the Heat, Merry Go Round, Chinatown, and Domino. It's been arduous to say the least trying to just listen to one of my old favorite bands from the '80s. Thanks
April 29th 1982 Tulsa,Ok. They opened for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Did a cover of "Hard Days Night" that was freakin' EXCELLENT!! Wayne Famous stole the show. Brings back lots of memories.
In high school in Baton Rouge in the early 1980’s, the Producers were THE band to see. L.S.U. student radio station KLSU had them and the U.S. Times featured in an all-day concert they put on at the old Alex Box Stadium, home of LSU’s baseball team…incredibly fun!!!😎
A friend in 1983 introduced this band to me. She had seen them at FSU. Then at USF in Tampa I saw them live for free at the soccer stadium next to the Sundome. Truly underrated.
Saw them last night in Atlanta. Wow, they still have the chops to play these gems. Can hit the notes, tight as if they never broke up. Holmes is an amazing drummer. I don't know his age but he still played it all beat for beat. It's a shame they got so screwed by the industry. I was glad to give them my $25 for a ticket;-)
These guys played The Mad Monk in Wilmington NC back in the 80s and I was a fan immediately.. the chemistry between them was so obvious.. Great band.. man those were good times ..
I used to go see them every time they played in Winston-Salem back in the eighties. I feel they never got all the recognition they deserved. A great band with every member contributing to the vocal responsibilities, and each a master of their instruments! Loved so many of their songs, like: "Domino", "What's He Got", and of course this song "Sheila". I hear they still play out sometimes. Really wish they would come to North Carolina again... I'd go and bring a lot of people with me!
I'm still amazed at what footage ends up on UA-cam...I never knew this band played an MTV show...Loved this band, damn they really sounded great live. Wish I coulda been at this show back in the day. Thanks for the post!
William Harper I caught them twice in Myrtle Beach, SC back in the early summer of 1986, I was 19. I have absolutely loved these guys ever since. This song is IMO one of the better examples of complex pop music from the early 80s, the bass, keys, and drums might make you think this band has prog rock leanings :) ... and there is much more on those two early albums, especially on "You Make the Heat".
I got to see these guys and meet them, probably right around this time when they played a bar out on Long Island outside of New York City. Tuey's maybe, or was it US Blues? Not sure. Great live band and really nice guys, especially Wayne. Their performance just blew and my friends away.
Saw the Tubes/Producers show back in the fall of 1983 in Nashville. Probably one of the top 3 shows I ever saw. These guys came out, put on a helluva show, then out came Fee Waybill and the boys, and my mind was blown the rest of the way out.
I remember seeing them with Stevie Ray Vaughn at NLU Monroe, La. Took a paper banner down after the concert and hung it in my bedroom for a couple of years. Rebels with a cause. Night to remember😂
These guys were snare drum tight.I have this New Years Eve Ball performance recorded live, and The Producers were probably the best band of the evening as far as music and chops go.
Watched them play Metron in Harrisburg, Pa many times in the early to mid 80’s…The keyboard player would hang upside down from the rafters at our club before the show for 15 minutes or so… it was a ritual I suppose… and man oh man, were they a great band… just unbelievable every time I saw them! Some of the best memories (-:
Some of the guys were locals here in Carrollton Ga. There was also Fortnox who was another great band as well as Ziggurat with Rick Fowler as their guitar player. We, Magician, opened Ziggurat back in the day.
This is a GREAT example of guys giving a shit about how they came across. The music, the vocals, the performance aspect. They are working their asses off but having fun. GREAT GREAT performance. No one these days can do this. NO ONE
Saw them a few times at and around LSU in the early 80’s. They were in heavy rotation on MTV. It would appear MTV success didn’t always equate to “making it” in the music business
I don;t know how big these guys were on the National Scale but, I grew up in Jacksonville, FL and these guys were HUGE here in the South at the time. They had some amazing songs - and I typically hated "New Wave" - I was listening to bands like Iron Maiden, Saxon, Judas Priest, etc - but I loved The Producers.
Yeah it's almost frightening how badly the business end of things went for them. I believe you can still get the double CD of "The Producers" and "You Make the Heat" on Amazon. Not sure about "Run For Your Life". I think I still have the vinyl of that somewhere.
There was a traveling show band (all cover songs) called The Sensors out of Atlanta, and they could cover The Producers pretty well note for note, lick for lick. This is some good old music : )
Band should have been a household name Management and bad luck can ruin the best of talent. Such a killer band with awesome tunes. Yet another Atlanta band that was this close, along with Mother’s Finest and Drivn & Cryin.
Looking forward to seeing the band this Friday night here in Madison, WI. New record (yes, I said 'record') coming out produced by Tab Benoit. Dig it :)
@bobsacco The bass player for the Producers was Kyle Henderson - one of the best players Atlanta ever "produced" . He started in a band called White Face from the late 70s - and joined with Van Temple to form the Producers in the early 80s.
Still have the album. Drunk now. Was a freshman in college at UF in 1982. What a great time to be in college. The 80s were special. And sings!
Underrated Drummer and Band. Awesome live as well. Back in the day I never missed a show in my area. This is in my playlist on my phone.

Wayne Famous had a Stage Presence that was second to none -
A True Performance Artist
He was the second coming of Rick Nielsen!
And a helluva nice guy!
Timing? Management? Record Company? Bad Deal? All of the above. Yes, they should have been HUGE!
They just sounded too similar to the Police ...
I'm 46 and I'm just discovering this band! It's a mix of Cheap Trick , The Knack , and The Police . Awesome!
Yup. Good assessment
This track gets all the credit. It is good. “Here’s to You” is so good.
They were great, use to see them all the time in Atlanta, unluckiest band of all time, should have been huge, wrong music, wrong time, just like Mothers Finest
There are no bands like that anymore. The Producers were "Golden!!!"
SMOKIN' !!!!
No way around it that song
KICKS ASS !!! Good Tune,
Great Band!!👍👍👍👍felt young again for a shiver of a second!
AWESOME!
The band deserved much more..the world got cheated not getting more of them...wonderful amazing!
True that. So much more. Sounds as fresh today as it did then
Not in Dominican Republic. There they ARE the greatest one EVER!!!!!
Agreed a classic!

I loved them SO MUCH in 1984 and still love them as much today! When I need a lift, they are a great go to! Suddenly it’s back in time :)

He's like an updated Rick Nielsen, like a Max Headroom :)
I actually saw them open for Cheap Trick in 83 (may have been late82) in Santa Barbara. Fantastic band.
Saw them in San Antonio that same year and yes they were great.
Do you remember the venue? Club Foot? Opry House?

And how !!!!
Just damn near perfect pop. 🎉

@@flawlessrides22 The opening band was Metal Lester from Enterprise, Alabama.
Haven't heard this song in probably 30 years. I stumbled upon it accidentally here on UA-cam. Will add this song to my collection.
I'll be seeing them tomorrow night in Tallahassee, FL for the 2nd time. AND, they still do every song in the original key!!
This was an absolutely awesome band! Never received the recognition they deserved.
the 80s ..gone forever, but this takes you back, thanks for posting this.. My old band in VAbeach, we played this!!!!
Still rocking and kicking ass in 2024.
So underrated ! Great songs and never should have ended! And should be rediscovered!!!!
I don’t remember this band from back in the day. Marvelous 3 brought me here. They do a killer cover of this.
Marvelous 3. Now there's a band from my past.
@@mccarthyfamily6824 they released a new album this past year and it’s fantastic.

What an amazing performance!
I've read that modified OBX gave Wayne back trouble later in life. Great band!
