Picked up the sticks again after 2+ years. Been watching many 180 videos to get back into the groove of things. Subbed! Keep up the great looking content. 👍🏼
this channel is helping out a lot, lots of variety of things to learn on the drums, truly a great place to visit for an amateur who wants to be a pro one day...
Thanks 180Drums guys!Improving means being out of our comfortable zone and this lesson will help us a lot to evolve in our musicality and expressivity.Best Regards
good video, i would say however that you're not playing a modulation, but rather just accenting odd groupings! that alone isn't a metric modulation, its just a syncopated fill. You still return to the original groove. If the accented note of the groupings became your new downbeat, that would be a metric modulation. For example: Let's take Michael Jackson's 'billie jean' play to that track and start accenting dotted quarter notes alternating with the kick and snare. If I internalized those accents as my new downbeat, the listener would feel the bpm change from 117 to approximately 87 bpm. Within that new established groove if I were to start accenting dotted 8ths alternating with my kick/snare that would modulate me back to the original tempo. That would be considered a modulation. These fills would work great to be used as a transition into a modulation, but without establishing the accents as your new downbeat they are simply odd groupings. cheers!
You are totally right. These are shorter examples for the sake of the lesson time. But...you are totally right. These fills are a GREAT transition into a modulation and letting it get weird! haha.
Georgia firstly I think it's so damn cool that you are studying drums and following that love and passion you have. Genuinely wishing you the best of luck with all of that. Plus tnx for sharing positive vibes, I've no connection with 180 drums but it still makes me so happy to see this support because I know how much work goes into these lessons. If only everyone appreciated it as much. Please take care and never stop playing - Stephen
The Dynamics in the fill is very cool. Its there but if you weren't a drummer or paying attention you wouldn't even realize it.. That's the kind of stuff I enjoy learning and playing and listening too.. Very good lesson brother!!
180 DRUMS I think you guys know my buddy Rob Ryan? He said you guys were from the same neck of the woods. Good guy, and drummer. KeepPounding my friends!
This is such an amazing concept, and the feel is so dirty and... well it's so wrong but feels so right! I already see the rest of the band falling off, because of how distorted the feel becomes during the fill.
"2 and 4" is referring to beats 2 and 4 in 4/4 music where the snare drum lands. Think of a basic beat, like the beat from Billie Jean by Michael Jackson... The snare drum is on the traditional 2 and 4. 1 "2" 3 "4" :)
180 DRUMS I really loved how Tim really knows hit stuff inside and out, I watched this and all I could think of was how he is like the Joe Satriani of drums!
Some of em sound kinda weird to me. Just the fact that it's so slow of a beat, then we go right into this fast solo, then back to slow. If the beat was faster in the first place I think it would flow easier, Yknow?
LOVE the way you broke this down. Makes so much sense to me now. Thank you!
Awesome!!
Super glad it helped! Thanks for watching.
I always get a lot out of Tim's lessons. Thanks! Everyone join 180 drums. It's worth every penny!
You're the man Cory! Keep up the hard work, as always!
Thanks so much Cory! Starting to get more on my UA-cam channel so let me know if you have any lesson requests!
Tim's a great drummer and teacher. I always enjoy his lessons and this is no exception. Great stuff. Thanks, Jake and the 180 crew.
You're the man Ray, can't wait to catch up soon!
Man. Thanks so much Ray. Those are very kind words.

So rad Mark. Hope we get to hear you crushing these fills!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it.
Like everybody else said. This video lays down the foundation in clear and practical way. Kudos to you guys! I'm taking this to my drum cave!
Thanks a ton Joe :)
Yes! That's the idea.
this channel is helping out a lot, lots of variety of things to learn on the drums, truly a great place to visit for an amateur who wants to be a pro one day...
That is the EXACT person I like teaching the most. Thanks for checking out the stuff.
Thanks 180Drums guys!Improving means being out of our comfortable zone and this lesson will help us a lot to evolve in our musicality and expressivity.Best Regards

I've always loved this kind of thing. I like applying them to melody writing as well.
Brilliant idea Django!
Yes! Metric modulation + melodies = winning.
Denng this just changed the way I think about 16th note triplet. It can be created that way tooo dayuuuum. Thanks a ton 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is insane. I can't wait to try and put it together.
Stoked to hear you try it. Post a vid!
Well. How'd it go? Did you ever put it together?
Makes for a vary cool, polyrhythmic sounding filll....looking forward to practicing this!! Thanks guys...

180 DRUMS no worries man. I study drums at university and honestly learning more here haha. Keep up the good stuff
Oh, snap! Big compliment :)

Great observation. Appreciate the kind words :)
180 DRUMS I think you guys know my buddy Rob Ryan? He said you guys were from the same neck of the woods. Good guy, and drummer. KeepPounding my friends!
You hit the nail on the head! That is exactly right, when done correctly - people might not even notice what you are doing!
Nice Lesson

Amazing Lance, that's what we're all in it for. Keep up the hard work!
That is a high honor. I'm super glad to be a part of that moment for ya!
This really got the gears turning. Incredible
Excited to hear you try some of this stuff out at some point Ethan. :)
Nice! What did you end up coming up with?
This is such an amazing concept, and the feel is so dirty and... well it's so wrong but feels so right!
I already see the rest of the band falling off, because of how distorted the feel becomes during the fill.
Haha, very true! Use it carefully!
Yep. Depending on who you pull this stuff out with and when...bands can get confused. Always have to use judgement and keep your ears open.
oh my god. speechless. just speechless.
Hopefully ya went and learned it! Right? : )
This is so much better than going out tonight with the crew holy s**t bro

those tons sound good
Thanks Hawke! You're always quick to comment, we like you!
You are very correct.
Awesome!
Thanks so much!
How do you get such a great bass drum sound/tone?
Cool Stuff!
Thanks Phillipp!
What size Ks are those crashes? What are the hats? Sound great!
19 and 20's I think! The hats are an old pair of 14 A hats that Tim traded for at a random gig!
Not sure...haha. The hats are 1970s 15" Zildjian As and the ride is a 22" constantinople.
This was awesome! Where can I learn about that pyramid he mentioned?
www.180drums.com :)
You can go here: www.timbuellmusic.com/gift and sign up there. You'll get an email about it.
Deadly stuff!
Thank you Joey!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
That is such an interesting concept and I am so excited to learn it. How could it be applied better with only a crash and a ride though
Just swap the sticking for whatever fits your set up best!
Makes me want to pull out my drum kit again and give this a go
You better!!
Do it. Do it. Do it. Do it.
Great idea!)

Yeah...what 180 Drums replied with! haha.
Great lesson! Definitely gives me a lot to practice. Random question...what sort or ear protection are you guys using? Or are those monitors?
Thank you Mark! In Ear Monitors by 1964 :)
I am using custom in ear monitors by 64 Audio.

We hoped it would be!

oh man
Hopefully this is a good "man" haha.
so is there anything in particular we need to put in the comment?
Yeah, tell us your favourite part of the lesson!
180 DRUMS I really loved how Tim really knows hit stuff inside and out, I watched this and all I could think of was how he is like the Joe Satriani of drums!
Nah. You killed it.
nice ;)
Thank you Stavros!
Thanks!

Hopefully a good "wow" :)
Technique, timing with the met. Not so sure about this. Bring the gigging pros back on please.
niiiice
Thanks!
Do y'all respond to every comment?
You best believe we try.
Hi! I might be 8 months late but...yes? haha.
Some of em sound kinda weird to me. Just the fact that it's so slow of a beat, then we go right into this fast solo, then back to slow. If the beat was faster in the first place I think it would flow easier, Yknow?
I hear ya. Sometimes musicality gets lost in trying to give examples for the lesson format.
So you do reply to every comment? I wonder if this one gets ignored🤔🤔
NOPE! Took 6 months but...here I am!
I think of it as sixteenth notes accenting the first note in a feel of sextuplets
