Even after all thee years after conducting even she isstill trying on new hats ! What a human being !
Sorry, but an Erard from 1859 is NOT a period Instrument for a piano concerto by Beethoven, especially not the second one he wrote.
Furthermore Argerich is NOT playing historically informed at all!
Ladies and gentlemen more than 80 years old but every piano with her sounds in ecstasy like no current pianists can do....wrinkled hands but the freshness and the spirit of a person who seems to have discovered Beethoven for the first time in her life.
Apart from András Schiff, I have never heard a period piano sound so delectable. Argerich can do anything! WOW. So many colors with her rainbow touch. Thank you for this revelation. What a treat.
She is so outrageously good…..🫠
Her body is 80 years old but her mind is youthful
The joy of the white haired cello player is unique
She looks at Martha fascinated 🤩
She almost made the piano sound like a glockenspiel. She played every note with taste and clarity that she gave the sound more colour than it already has. I have never heard anyone play this well on a period piano. She is truly the goddess of piano :)
Exselent Her virtuosity and expressiveness are not falling off She is one of a kind and as beautiful as ever
Thank G-d for music and Martha
Martha, the lion of modern piano playing, delivering a period-style performance! How totally unexpected! Turns out her playing is fabulously suited to this. She always valued clarity and a crisp sound profile, and the Erard gives her that in spades, as does the wonderful orchestra. Also, I bet she loves being embedded in the orchestra, given how much she values teamwork and dislike solo showmanship. I wonder - will she do more? Wouldn't it be awesome if she decided to record all five Beethoven Concertos this way?
Martha does not play Beethoven 4 or Beethoven 5 - plus she played Beethoven 3 a few times and she doesn’t want to play it anymore- she plays First and Second only but she already recorded those and she would never agree with more recordings -
My dad would have liked to hear this what piano master
if she were an archer ... she would strike to the heart with all the arrows. as she does here! Masterful
I love the look of the Cellist at 13:51

I can't get over it. This is so good! I don't think I've ever heard he phase so precisely! Or maybe the modern pianos simply can't quite keep up with her level of exactitude.
First of all: Period Instruments are allways superior to modern ones, at least when they are avout to play the music of their time.
Secondly an Erard from 1859 is not a period Instrument for a concerto written in the 1790's!
@@ThiloAbend You say, "Period Instruments are allways superior to modern ones, at least when they are avout to play the music of their time." Not sure I agree. Some of the greatest interpretations of, say, Beethoven sonatas were made on 20-century pianos (Kempff, Arrau, Backhaus, Solomon, Rubinstein etc.), and the acoustic results - quite apart from the artistic ones - are extremely satisfying.
Of course you're right that an 1859 piano is not "period" for the 1790s. But I never said it was.
@@uliwidmaier5192 These recordings used to be sounding satisfying to me as well... until I tasted the sweet fruit of (real) period Instruments. And now every recording made on a modern piano (though played wonderfully) soubds the same to me. Too dry, too clean, to perfect, too colorless, too even in tuning, too less exciting. There is a recording by Beethovens Moonlight Sonata on a period piano replica, when I heard it, I understood the piece for the first time, even though I THOUGHT I understood this piece long before. I will post the link here.

This is the recording I mentioned. I'm sorry, but for me the modern piano doesn't have any chance to be on the same level of this piano for Music around 1800.
And I even don't believe that this a matter of taste, because Beethoven only knew the sound of this period piano, so it is obvious for me that he intended this sound whoch you simply can't reproduce on a modern Steinway...
And same goes for Bach and the harpsichord and so on.
@@ThiloAbend Yes, this recording is absolutely fascinating. Thank you for sharing it with me. I will have to do some serious listening and thinking.

La Grande Martha, Magnifique! sur un piano qui n'est pas une "Formule 1" mais quel son!

It would be great if you could add the name of the orchestra! It’s {oh!} Orkiestra
If "period" means the period when the piece was written, well, this piece was written in 1795, not 1858. Pianos changed/advanced quite a bit in the interim. Still, this is a really cool, fresh, interesting performance and Martha still shows her amazing versatility. Wonderful!
It is generally considered Beethoven’s music drove forward the development of the piano, so you could say this is a good approximation of what he imagined.

What first movement cadenza is this?
Does anybody know what Martha is wearing around her neck?
I'd like to see a robot do that. Interpretation.

Václav Luks, check out his Collegium 1704
3rd movement really so fast?
Sind die Instrumente des Orchesters gestimmt ?
Yes, they are period instruments
Deshalb muss es doch nicht so ! klingen !
Diese geistige und physische Präsenz in ihrem Alter!!! Unglaublich!❤😮
Argerich ist und bleibt ein Phänomen!

Not only they are tuned, but these orchestras have a much better and preciser intonation than most orchestras with modern instruments. Only sometimes the a is not tuned at modern concert pitch. This recording A=430Hz
