This concerto was not Beethoven's first; it was the first to be published. What we know as the Second Piano Concerto was his first to be composed.

This is one of the best Martha Argerich that I’ve ever heard. A sprightly interpretation of light-hearted Beethoven. With this, she has truly proven that age is just a number. Martha Argerich the High Priestess of the Piano 🙏🏽🙏🏽.
The Orchestral Accompaniment was also superb. The smaller orchestra seemed to give a degree of sensitivity to the performance. 🙏🏽

You can watch Martha Argerich and the Oxford Philarmonic Orchestra April 3, 2023 in Heilbronn, Germany (Baden Württemberg). Beethoven's Piano Concert 1 will be performed.
I saw her first on TV in 1973, I was young, a bit foolish and more handsome than now. She performed Tchaikovsky , Symphonie 1, this was well known.
I live near Cologne but I will take the 350 km long drive to Heilbronn. - best wishes to you -

Martha is genius, of course, but what really impresses is the vibrancy and clarity in the reduced orchestral forces. It actually sounds better than with full orchestra. Better balance. The acoustics are exquisite. I regret that I was in this hall and didn’t get to hear a concert. The conductor is a gem. How could any human being not be touched by the childish joy in his face? It’s like he is discovering the music for the first time. Delightful!

I find no ground for "still" here - regardless of the natural limits that age brings, here she's better than ever. How lucky the audience, how privileged are we to be able to hear this historic performance. Bravo to all - M.Argerich (unbelievable), the marvelous conductor with his pared down orchestra and for Beethoven eternal gratitude times infinity.

Listening to Ludwig and Joan through this interpreter is a delight to abolish the surge of everyday noises and images to half-open the space of elsewhere where contingency and representation give way to the immateriality of the sensitive. The expressive power of the sound architecture breaks with any form of transcription of reality to attach itself to the expression of a fabulous universe where the color and the hythm of the compositions constitute an expiration which gives voice to the exaltation ☺

To hear this concerto performed with the elasticity of chamber music is wonderful! Fantastic soloists all, and one happens to play the piano. Bonus: Argerich singing solfège sixteenth notes, under her breath, during the final statement of the Rondo theme. Amazing.
