This is one of the best Martha Argerich that I’ve ever heard. A sprightly interpretation of light-hearted Beethoven. With this, she has truly proven that age is just a number. Martha Argerich the High Priestess of the Piano 🙏🏽🙏🏽. The Orchestral Accompaniment was also superb. The smaller orchestra seemed to give a degree of sensitivity to the performance. 🙏🏽
She is undoubtedly the genius of the Century, since her childhood. The sound engineer did a superb job to blend all sounds and create the atmosphere and sound stage. Thumb's up for him/her too.
@@jeanash9502 Good morning Jean. happy Christmas and a marvellous start for you in 2023. Ahh...Brava Martha.. Bravo Beethoven. Martha shows her true genius at the piano! She plays with emotion, conciseness, and elegance. Simply magnificence! So happy I was able to find this musical gem.
Martha is genius, of course, but what really impresses is the vibrancy and clarity in the reduced orchestral forces. It actually sounds better than with full orchestra. Better balance. The acoustics are exquisite. I regret that I was in this hall and didn’t get to hear a concert. The conductor is a gem. How could any human being not be touched by the childish joy in his face? I often read Martha's fan talking about "her still being" when refering her senior years recordings and performances. I find no ground for "still" here - regardless of the natural limits that age brings, here she's better than ever. And that's not "just"about musicality and insight - that here's just the perfect Beethoven 1. Even better than ever before.
Good point! She's a force of nature and a pure genius of the keyboard! Her senior years? Many young pianist can envy her the elan vital and fervour! She's a mature player, who knows perfectly well what she wants to convey to the public and how to do it by hitting the right keys!
Still simply means that unlike many skills and abilities including piano prowess that are commonly affected negatively by age, Martha's skill seems not only undiminished, but in some ways even improved, amazing!
Into her 8th decade, she has lost none of that nimble, magic, precise touch and speed. Incredible pianist. I am glad to see Beethoven in her repertoire, as I have not seen or heard her play him before. Wonderful.
Come to think of it, according to Wikipedia, Argerich gave her first public performance in 1949 at the age of 8 years, 70 years years before this performance. And what did she play? The Beethoven #1! That very performance can also be found on UA-cam.
After that, I felt like the audience who really didn't want to see Argerich go. Being here on UA-cam I had the priviledge of just clicking start and watching all over again!! Oh, her light clear touch, the precision, the vibration, the magic with that wizard, Gàbor conjuring joy into action and sound. Just watch the rapt look on the musicien's faces during the encores....
I first saw Martha Argerich perform at the Proms in the early 1960’s in London. Who knew she’d be as good as ever in her 80’s like in her 20’s. Clearly she’s having so much fun at the piano. Just look at her joyful expressions she occasionally imparts. Martha has been my favorite pianist of all time.
Not only are all the artist's involved very good but the video camera work showing all the sections was done beautifully. Great sound quality is very evident as well. Martha and Gabor were just outstanding, their vibrant and melodious style give this performance a true elegance. The 3rd movement is a knock out highlighting Martha's virtuosity.
