Howdy young cowboy! If you don't object to a compliment from an old farmer, I want to tell you how much I enjoyed this. I just found your channel, I'll look for more episodes. You brought back lots of fond memories for me. I like the way you felled those trees near the ground, instead of leaving 2 feet of the best wood as a standing stump. The double bit ax is a great choice for that chore. I much prefer their balance for felling. I spent a lot of my early youth on the far end of a two man buck saw helping my dad...I like your one man version. We didn't have a log house, but we had a completely buried cellar, made very similar to your log house. We stored canned food there, and would wait out radio broadcasted tornado warnings there as well. This was a lot of fun. Thanks! One last thought...glad that flying chunk (15:01) didn't hit an eye. Maybe you ought'a round up some glasses...
As a born and raised Okie, I knew this took place in Oklahoma. Just seeing the cedar trees and praire grass to the clumps of red clay and murky red water. This was a great and educational video! Keep doing our state proud!
This man has the skills. But if you would like to see a spiritual ancestor of his, look for a documentary called 'Alone In the Wilderness'. It's the story of one man living alone in Twin Lakes Alaska. It was supposed to be a two or three year experiment for his health; he ended up staying there for 35 years! Only reason he came back is he had been injured several times and it was catching up to him and he could no longer survive on his own. So he came back to civilization.
Just found you channel. Love it! A former Oklahoman, now a Montanan. Its nice to see those invasive Juniperus Virginiana scrub trees being put to a good use. Nice to see you bow your head and give thanks as well. God bless you and your channel. Keep it up.
Somehow I stumbled across this and started from the beginning watching. As a man who's built his own cabin, works on it from time to time, dreaming of living in a simpler time, there is no better entertainment. Keep at it, keep making videos, and we'll keep watching because I know I can't be the only one loving this. 14:00 tickled me....man, have I been there before!
Just found your channel last night. Very enjoyable and educational as to how it was for pioneers. I binged on all your videos. Looking forward to the next one. Watching from Kentucky.
Thanks Mike! I'm glad you're enjoying them, the next one should be good I've already started filming it. I checked out your channel are you still doing the carnivore diet? I've been very interested in that.
@@WesternPioneer Great! I'm looking forward to seeing it. Yes I'm stillll doing carnivore. I'm almost 7 months at it and down close to 200#. I feel like I'm 20 maybe 25 years younger. I was on a total 11 prescriptions causing problems they should have fixed. Now I'm on 2 and hoping to be off those by the end of my first year. Carnivore is good for anyone willing to do it. 30 days of it will convince you.
@@Mikes_carnivore_journey That's awesome congratulations! I'll definitely try it at some point, I hear a lot of good things about it and I'm glad it's working out for you.
@@WesternPioneer Thank you! When you try it I wish you luck. Dr Ken D Berry's and Dr Anthony Chaffer's UA-cam channels has all the Carnivore information you could every need.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this! I have a pile of chores to do out in the backyard but instead once I saw this video and clicked on it I decided to watch it instead of going out there and I'm glad I did. Really neat stuff!
Homemade strap hoist pivot insert on backside supports temporary as you when up plus rolling rails use straps lifted in place lot them used block and tackle same on fence otherwise horse pulling up with rope saved back
Hey bro you should Never use an ax as a hammer. And never hit the axe head with another hammer. When you do this you are slowly deforming the eye of the axe head and it will eventually become loose and could even form cracks. Just saying.
I can confirm. I had a shitty Pakistani “forged” axe that I used as a froe and slammed a 5lb mallet on the back to drive it. After a couple logs I hit and half of the eye broke off in a metal chunk and sliced my leg, was shitty cast metal not “forged” I now hit all metal with a wood club or a burl branch as a mallet
Thank you and I just subscribed to your channel, what beautiful land! Good luck with the cabin rebuild, I'm learning a lot about mice problems at my place but what you have is several magnitudes higher. I hope your channel becomes a huge success.
I think a way to tell the difference between Juniper, and Cedar is that Junipers instead of using a cone to reproduce they use a berry which is typically blue in color (The juniper berry is still a cone but looks like a small blue berry), and Cedar they use cones which are brown in color to reproduce. I love the videos! :D
eventhough I have absolutely no interest in cowboy stuff or anything related I can appreciate hard working man with no bullshit wannabe clever talking! great video, thanks for it, looking forward for next one
I love knives, so far the only knife I've used for these videos is an old butchers knife but I've used it for everything. I have leather to make a sheath that I want to attach to my gun belt. Once the cabin is done I'll start on projects like that.
The first logs got to be easier: Get a rope tye it to the ceiling top cross beam make a loop and retype the loop to hight accordingly place one end of the log in the loop a Rope pitty man
Thanks! Well I personally got it from Home Depot lol but during this time period Oklahoma was a rare case in that it had established rail roads before it was opened to settlers in the 1880's since it was Indian territory before then. When the settlers came the rail roads made a lot of money bringing in lumber from the east. So I'm pretending that's where I got it.
Where abouts in Oklahoma? If I had to guess I'd say Western, somewhere along I40. Weatherford, Clinton Elk City, Hinton. Definitely not Southwest, too hilly haha.
Plus just say nice weather otherwise kind like sit relax rest very laborious funny thing is even back there days many men did all kinds style movies just don’t show big houses sure had big pockets big food bills lot those dry cure beef meat took days weeks even months properly prepared preparation for the nessary repairing let’s just say even now after winter gets harder
I love this idea! I don't have the time to make that many clay tiles for this roof but maybe on the next structure I build. I definitely want to do something with the clay.
Nice job brother. Now if I subscribe are you going to lev your channel for 2 or 3 years without finishing the job or is it a long term thing I’d like to see the hole thing complete with you chilling outside with a pipe in front of a camp fire, I’ve just watched all your vids man well done keep going the world needs to see stuff like this. P.S. love the old school thing
Thanks! I actually quit my job and moved out here to the middle of nowhere to make these videos full time so I'm 100% invested in the channel. I have until the end of the year to start making enough money to live on or else I'm up the creek without a paddle so lets hope I'm making these videos for a long time.
Yes some of the clothing is from Frontier Classics, their "Pioneer Shirt" is my favorite. I have heard in a facebook group about wild west clothing that some of their stuff isn't quite historically accurate but all the clothing has held up great. I got the suspenders, belt/holster, and a bunch of other items from riverjunction com I really like them. Thank you!
I've been keeping an eye on it and it only seems to be a problem if we get a big rain storm which luckily doesn't happen too often here. I do plan on digging a water run off trench on the hill above the cabin but if all else fails I'll just have to open up the windows for a few days after it rains and hopefully that's good enough.
I don't know much about Juniper trees so some of them might be Juniper. I thought they were all cedar but someone mentioned that some are cypress trees, I still have a lot to learn.
The cabin is starting to look like a wild west pioneers cabin. That pesky log finally behaved. On to the next video. From South Africa 🌍🇿🇦💌🙏👍

I was wondering about this. It looks much like texas, all the shrubery but the soil is to red and clay. Ours down here is much rockier and white.

this video is a work of art..... the title should just be "men" cos the simple life style is something every man loves around the world!
Why you should use a horse 🐎 to pull the logs over to the building site. You had them pull your chuck wagon to camp. I like the rustic cabin.
Looking good 22:07
I'm gonna go ahead and buy grub tonight, if you can just get the keys to the Wagon I'll buy a pizza
haha the pizza will be cold when you get back, she's got very low horsepower.
I cringed just a little bit when I saw that draw blade come out, I do not miss skinning out fencing posts from old bodock and locust trees lol.

Need your team of horses to move the logs
The reason that they called them sod busters back then.
