There’s also another thing that’s weird with this show which just makes me think that it was as stacked in the women’s favour as possible and they still lost. The further the series progresses, you can see the men drastically loosing weight, to the point where their ribs and some organs are visible. The women, however, who were consistently performing much worse, don’t seem to have lost any weight at all. And at the end of the series, we see the men going through “re-feeding syndrome” and not finishing their meals despite still being extremely thin and malnourished, meanwhile the women left the hotel to get junk food from a convenience store. And because we saw them get unfair advantages (the fish, the piglets, the random bottle of orange aid, etc) it’s not out of the ordinary to assume that they were secretly getting fed extra behind the scenes
I believe there's a number of factors that play in.
Most prominently is that women are better at starving than men. Possibly due to muscle distribution idk, but when men/women are put in situations where they starve, women tend to take longer to die.
The men were actually more active and therefore consuming more energy in the long run.
I believe the show "Alone" had an issue where the contestants/winners strategies evolved into tactfully starving yourself, instead of actually surviving.
Not that this made the women the winners in any case, but I doubt they were secretly straight up handed food. (Thats what the pigs were for)
@@wasdwasd609 I suppose that makes sense since women have a higher percentage of body fat than men and in survival mode that would last longer. Also their caloric requirements would probably be lower. That said, there’s still WAYY too many instances of the women getting food unfairly and I’m sure there were many times that the production crew were secretly giving them food just based on how poorly they were doing most of the time

I just binged the entire series. The women were celebrating about how they made fire so quickly and were better off than the men. On the men's side, I genuinely did not remember ONCE when they mentioned ANYTHING, not one thing, relating to the women's side, they didn't undermine them, they didn't say they were winning, nothing like that. Hell I'd even wonder if the men were even told that women were trying to survive as well on another island just like them.
Guess the women considered it a competition, the men considered it a challenge.

And this is not just a one off thing. Koh Lanta (the french version of the Island) did the exact same thing and with the same results. The women camp was a disorganised mess of missery, meanwhile the men where building a vacation resort. The competition got so horifically one sidded that beffore the halway mark they had to remix the teams.

Vic was the MVP of the men's group. Ofc his attitude was problematic, but he knew that and apologized every time he was wrong. He also jumped in whenever help was needed. One of them fell through the rocks, Vic instantly jumped in to help.

@bronchoped1 the only reason vegan men/women exist is because they've never experienced starvation and they're comfortable with everything I guess. We have supermarkets, convenience stores, we can actually buy meat replacements that'd eventually work. But, in case of need, they'd lose no time eating those pigs.

i have never seen women work in construction, plumbing, powerplants, etc. except in ads, ive been to a water treatment plant before on a school trip and i asked how many women worked there and the senior staff said that in his 30+ years he worked there he never seen a woman work there

I think shows like this accidentally stumble on the truth. There was an earlier Scandinavian Survivor show which coincidentally showed the men getting S done and the women lounging, lazing and backstabbing. Things were so bad than one of the men was sent to the women's island to help finish their shelter as it was the middle of Monsoon Season.

i actually watched this on discovery, when watching the woman, i was frustrated because it feel like any other drama show, but when it come to men, every moment is fun and entertained to watch, the funniest part imo is when they finally make a fire, and then they dance around the fire like a bunch of cavemen and i loved it
There are little things more wholesome than men having fun with the boys. I worked at a tractor factory once, which had a testing range. I can't tell you how many happy men driving huge machinery around I saw there :D

Surviving doesn’t take a certain gender to be achieved. It takes a certain mindset. It just so happens that the mindset required is more often found in men

I've seen women with this mindset, and I respect them and their judgement in these matters just as much as any man.
Skill or physical ability isn't so easily malleable, but mindset is. And no effort should be made to respect or enable weak mindsets.
That said... I admit I always have trouble crystallizing this weak mindset that I detest. Can you help me? I can only think of a few traits that define it so far:
1) Self-congratulation _before_ the job is done. The constant girlbossing of the female team comes to mind.
2) Prioritizing comfort over challenge. There's a reason the "men will have a room with a chair and a TV and think this is okay" is a meme, and it's because most men don't value comfort. Heck, even our choice of entertainment (video games) represents a preference for adversity over comfort.
3) An unwillingness to use violence even as last resort. Remember when the women team had two pigs as free food... and _they used them as pets?_

SPOILER: This show is kind of infamous.
The producers interfered, repeatedly, to give the women a break because they were so awful at everything.
They planted the pigs, and after the dumb creatures befriended the other dumb creatures, they had to drug and tie up(!) the third pig and leave it to be found. Those things were not wild boars, like you'd find in the wilderness. They were healthy, mange-free, de-parasited domesticated animals with no fear of humans.
The 'free fish' encounter was arranged too.
The brought them water, rations, and helped them find the beach.
The only real thing was the look of self-hate in Bear Grylls' eyes as he LIED about the women "surviving."

What this tells me is that its up to us to change how we raise girls. I believe the root of the problem isn't that women are weaker or think differently, but that our expectations for what we want from girls is set too low. These women obviously aren't raised with the same emphasis of self-reliance and maturity that is expected in men. Just like how boys are taught to "man-up" girls are brought up with the idea that they don't always need to be self reliant whether it be directly or subliminally.
No, there is nothing wrong with what happened in this video. Nothing hre really needs to change. The point was to show that women cannot do what men can when it comes to survival and taking initiative. Nothing is wrong here, this is what would always happen with a sample of 14 men and women in a natural environment. Women should not be grown up to be taught to be self reliant and to man up and be like men because it jsut creates the same type of women who think they are on the same level of men.
S!mps are the problem. Too many men will go out of their way to help women, bail them out of their own bad decisions, in exchange for nothing, because they (mistakenly) think they'll get a whiff of pooniti. These types of women never learn self-reliance or that bad decisions have consequences because they have an army of s!mps at their disposal at all times.

I think it's both. One doesn't exclude the other. Women are biologically different, but indeed the expectations in society are way lower because men do everything for women just for a chance to get laid.

its not really the courts - those are just symptom. What changed was the whole lifestyle and expectation on cultural level. There was time when men and women both needed each other, agreed that they needed each other and indeed respected each other for what they brought to the common table. Atm that is not the case anymore, it is the lifestyle expectation especially when have these days that change, along with the fact that as women have wanted to start to work and earn like men, they have less need for men. But at the same time alot of women have now zero knowledge about the family and household stuff that used to be womens domain in the past. ...giving less reason for men to get the woman as really its now easier to buy whatever services you need, rather than expect that you can date/marry a woman who knows how to do it.
Anhow, its not really the courts that caused everything to go out of balance, rather the courts came to existence as the result of things going out of balance and feminism being promoted no matter the cost.

I keep coming back to this video, I think this is my 25th time rewatching it.
It's just so well made, very funny, and proves many of our points about how women can't survive without men.
From what I saw in the challenge, the men got along well and understood each other easily, meanwhile the women had so many troubles with leadership and communication.

After I listened to the research Dr. Tania Reynolds, the behaviour of the female group starts to make way more sense.
She says male intrasexual relationships are primarily alliances for completing tasks, hunting, fighting, etc., while female intrasexual relationships are primarily for a constant search for allies in the reputation battlefield.
Essentially, guys social behaviours are tailored to solve problems of physical necessity, and women's social behaviours revolve around becoming socially acceptable, and that's the reason why gossip is a female "weapon".

I think that the difference in outcome for men and women will be due to cultural differences in expectations/roles, cultural differences in growing up, cultural differences in accountability and cultural differences in perceiving reality.
In societies where men and women are accountable for their contribution to the group, you don't see this.

The female soldiers i served with, would run toward me and beg me for protection while I was in the middle of returning fire to the Taliban, so then I had no choice but to stop what I was doing and instead focus on protecting these terrified female soldiers and also constantly keep an eye on the new soldiers and young afghan militia that had no idea what they were doing and often
ran toward me, rather than to stay and shoot! Some of them even made so many mistakes that I almost got killed because of them, so I just could not rely on these people, even if I wanted to do so.
