Hi, 'Pareltje'. There wasn't anything that I needed to do, other than turn up the volume, when I unboxed the RW200? As long as you don't have headphones in the headphone jack, there shouldn't be anything prohibiting sound delivery. That said, do the headphones have sound when you plug-in? I would return the unit for an exchange. I'm sure if you've exhausted all avenues, an exchange for a new unit would not be difficult. Sorry to hear. Best, Chris.
Great review, many thanks. I have the same tool. In fact the AC adapter is not supplied with the metronome and it has to be purchased separately. (9 € Thomann) It's a nice metronome but I would also have preferred some more sound samples.
Great post Chris... I have the earlier version RW105. The 200 is way better on the program select features (forward/back) as it's a pain to scroll through 30 pre-sets to get "back" to where you might be directed by the band. Take good care ~ Austin

True enough and you're spot on, Jonathan!. There are Pro's & Cons. With technology moving the way it is, these types of clicks will likely become dinosaurs. I also use a sequencer (Roland SPD-SX), which has its own click internally. When I use this, I don't need the TAMA unit. In addition, with the advances with tablets, etc., clicks are also embedded with transcriptions for drummers. I use the TAMA unit to ensure meter wherever/whenever I need it. nice review i like it thanks. but i have a question. i use wired in ear monitor on stage. i hear the group in my in ears. but i want to hear metronome also. can we use like this? for example i can put my in ears cable to the metronome and i can use my in ears from metronome and i can hear both? is it possible?

Short answer, no. To be clear, the best way to achieve this is to play to a sequenced click-track via your laptop. There are programs for this that are used with backtracks, or sequencing. Even if the metronome was capable of doing this, I would not rely on it live. All to often a guitar solo, bridge, or audience participation bit may veer of bar-count. You'd be screwed! I would only use a severed tempo if everyone was following the click/sequenced backtrack. IMO. Cheers, and thanks for the comment.
Very helpful, thanks Chris. the only negative I can see is that the stage mode only goes for 2 bars, as I like a constant click in the ear from my metronome. I guess a workaround for this would be to use practice mode and just set each tempo before each song on the set!
I love this metronome but a huge down fall is not being able to keep the backlight lit and you can’t see the screen at all if it’s dark, I usually have to keep my iPhone light or small light over my rig.

Thanks! Answer; the memory stores everything (even when the unit is turned off). If the battery dies, your programmed songs are lost. It’s just a pain reprogramming. I usually reprogram the unit for every show anyway, due to different set lists. Thanks for the comment! Cheers!
Short answer, not shuffles specifically. However, you can work on shuffles through programming triplets into the metronome - then simply work on your timing from there.

NP. First, I use the tapping method to determine a tempo of a song we may do on stage, or a tune that the music director may not have written down. For a tune that I want to program into the metronome, I will select the program number (1-30) with the buttons on the bottom left, then use the wheel to program the tempo. Last, once the tempo is selected, I lock that tempo in by pressing the '+STORE' button (3rd button from left). The two tempo lights on either side of the display should flash, indicating that the song/tempo has been programmed. This is repeated with every song that I have on the set lists. Hey Chris, Thanks for a very well done product review. I just have one question now that I've seen it mounted on a hihat stand. I'm most certain that the one bracket on the RW200 is the RWH10 but, what I can't identify is what clamp you're using on the hihat itself? It also looks like you used a separate standard L Rod too. You may not remember the model number but if you know who made the hihat bracket I could probably find it. Thanks in advance! dp
Hey, you're very welcome and thank you for watching! The clamp I used in this video to secure the Metronome is an LP Cowbell clamp (it is one complete unit, no additional "L-Rod" needed). I'm not sure if this LP mount is available any longer, but I have it in my misc. items and it works perfectly!

Hi Guys, I have just picked up djing and am looking for a BPM counter to help me beat match vinyls. Is this going to work with that?.. in other words, does it have a microphone that detect live music?.... thanks!
Renato, the best way on the TAMA RW200 is to use the Bpm button (tap function), or program the album Bpm from a song Bpm finder on the internet. It does not have a bpm mic to configure tempo's.
I hear you, Robert! The start is the only time I've had a challenge storing the tempo's as well. First; select the program # you want the tempo programmed on. Second; select the tempo (bpm) you want on the selected program #. Third; once you've got the tempo (say it's 120), press the 'STORE' button and ensure the tempo lights flash once. If the lights do not flash, go back to the program buttons, push '+' then '-' (back to your selected program #) and select the 120 Bpm again, push 'STORE' and the lights should flash. There you have it - that program # should be stored! I believe that TAMA may have programmed the unit this way to reduce the number of overwrites.
I have the same problem. I think i've got the tempos in there but when I go back and check, they've changed. It doesn't help that the "Store" button is dual purpose, also forswitching off the display backlight.
i bought a RW200 rhythm wach , ideed i've tested 3 of them and all have a terrible sound on headphones (distorted) , very bad for use in live concert , (i tried different headphones and in ear monitor) , the display light does not work if you use a external pedal to increase programs or start and stop the click , and it is not possible to keep it "on" permanently . this is not a professional device and more than 90€ are really to much !
I hear you brother. There are so many more devices since the TAMA unit came out. I still use it live once in a while; however, I only use it to gauge tempos when I sub in with charted songs. For clicks, I will use a click track when I am sequencing, or there is a video sync through a track. For that type of show, the TAMA unit obviously cannot be used. I also still use the TAMA RW200 when I teach as well as practice with a click. Keep on drumming and thanks for taking the time to give feedback. This is how we all keep informed!

It all depends on what you require. This works live and works well in live situations. An app doesn't perform the same functions (I believe). However, I totally respect your viewpoint. And, if that works for you (the app), by all means - you're 100% correct!

If you have an iPhone check out Pro Metronome. It has a thing called stage mode and you can set it to play as many bars as you want or continuously. And the cool thing is you can have it go to the next song automatically or on touch. And it has 12 sounds. All that for 5 bucks. I’m not affiliated with the developer, I just like the product.
why buy this when you have tablets and metronome apps? i'm using pro metronome app with a tablet on a stand. creating playlists, saving song lists, changing metronome sounds etc. Very useful on stage. Tama RW series were useful before we had tablets and apps but now it became useless with its toy like narrow screen.
Jayyee, one thing I really like about the DB90 is the option to keep the display light on. Other than that, I believe programming the DB90 takes a little too much time, plus it's a little more money! Just my opinion. I do like the features of the DB90, however.
The 3rd button is your backlight button. Push it to turn your backlight back on.

You can save your programmed tempos by plugging it in with an ac adapter before changing the battery

The backlight should be turn on automaticly when I'll click some button?
One of my beefs, yes. The light turns off and, if you want to check the read-out, you need to depress the button again.

Can the unit be in Always On mode or it shuts off after some time?
The light shuts off, yes. The unit will stay on, however, I do suggest plugging the unit in with the DC jack.

Why would I spend around €70 for it, I can get same features in a mobile app, which is a fraction of this price point or even for free.
