      Hey bob. I went to the grocery store today and spent $70 and looked in the basket and I had nothing. Even the prices have gone up at my local farmers market. Awesome man you're going to love deer hunting. Plus all the meat you'll get from the deer. I sure hope you get one this year. Don't forget keep the antlers. Have an awesome week my friend and I'll talk to you in the next one

    Good shelter Bob only thing different would be a emergency blanket on the floor or over the top under the tarp to help with heat loss

    Maybe???? LOL Lost a camera WOW, I hope you found it. I really like the way you installed that inner tarp. That was a really good idea Bob. I am not sure what I would do different, except maybe do a teepee as you had mentioned. Good thing you called this weather has been nuts lately!

    • @Bob808Knight
      @Bob808Knight  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi lee. Maybe I better clarify the cold weather zap the camera battery and it wouldn't come on... I think the tripod was actually Frozen. I forced the leg it said nope and snap too. LOL it would appear I've accidentally started the experimental third building series. Not sure how that happens. But I am planning to build a mini teepee out of a tarp. couple other designs you'll see in the near future... man I'm telling you this has been weird weather wise around here. One day we got snow the next it's in the 50s... have a most awesome week and I shall talk to you in the next one

    It would be interesting to see you do another shelter experiment, where you just tie a tight ridgeline between two trees, drape the first tarp over and stake it down properly, run a second ridgeline a little higher up the tree and stake it out properly so you've created a four to six inch space between the sidewalls of each tarp. Then go ahead and split the little tarp as you remarked and close up both ends. Do a comparison between the two methods to see which one was quicker to set up, more durable in the wind and rain, and which one offered more comfort and protection.

    • @Bob808Knight
      @Bob808Knight  10 місяців тому +1

      🤔 I like your idea brother. I can use an 8x10 for the bottom layer and a 9x11 to the top layer. A couple 5x7's to cover the ends up. I'll put it on the list. Since it's a request I'll go ahead and push it up to the top... it might be a couple weeks before I can get to it. I got some things on the homefront I need to take care of. As far as your question I pretty much already know the answer but I shall save it for the video. Have an awesome week and I'll talk to you in the next one

      Thanks karen. They won't freeze because of the wax. But there's still a pain in the butt to get undone. It's a lot easier just to cut the bank line... plus Bank lines not that expensive. It's a lot cheaper than 550. there's more on the roll. Have an awesome evening and I shall talk to you in the next one

      what? You never played in the woods as a child?
      I was making all kinds of little shelters even before I joined the Cub Scouts. My grandparents had 10 acres of woods and I would spend the summer down there about 90% of the time out in the woods I had a Cub Scout later but I still like to build my own. I made him out of trash bags even little A-frame like that you put the bottom one on first then one over the top going down to where it goes over the lower ones so the rain goes down. Little bit of duct tape. You can do just about anything if you have a mind to it. We used to pick up old tarps on the sides of the road that fell off of trucks those are the best. Those heavy duty ones a little heavy but they sure do last

    • @Bob808Knight

      Thanks jeff. If you get a chance I say go to Wally World pick up a cheap blue tarp and some cordage. Find some public use land.. do some experimenting. I have a feeling you'll have a good time doing it... have an awesome week and I'll talk to you in the next one

      Hi james. Story time. :-) when I was younger me and the neighborhood kids will go to a local build site. Grab the discarded plastic and wood out of the dumpster. Disappear into the woods and build forts. Those were Some of the best memories from my childhood.

  • @jamesbowen5573

    You know if you did it right you could put a little camp stove in there and have the pipe going out the back end at the top. You would probably want to make the whole A-frame a little bit longer so it could be in front of you and you crawl through the back and have a door closed behind you. Your bathtub design is perfect just like a teepee the cold air would come in and would flow any kinds of fumes out the top vent so in theory you could even have an open fire as long as you didn't build it real big

    • @Bob808Knight
      @Bob808Knight  10 місяців тому +1

      Hello there James. I think I've started a experimental tarp building series. Something you're talking about is a project I'm currently working on. Yes I will be using the same external frame. Much bigger of course. But I'll rig it so I can actually have side walls. If I do it right you can fit in two cots. one stove in the center... maybe even enough room for a couple chairs. Interesting that you mention the 0 teepee. I am planning to build a mini teepee out of a tarp.... now about having an open fire in the teepee I've done that before... I found you have to use a Dakota fire pit with a hole that goes all the way outside to the teepee from proper air flow. It just smoke a little bit once you get it started but after that it burns pretty clean. And yes with the air draft going up the inner walls of the teepee cover the smoke ventilator is pretty quick.. have a most awesome week and I shall talk to you in the next one

    • @jamesbowen5573
      @jamesbowen5573 10 місяців тому

      @@Bob808Knight yes correct, the Dakota fire helps out a lot. But the Brilliance of the teepee was the inner liner that allowed cold air to be drawn in by the hot air Rising, which removes the smoke. Causing it to draw out the top. I believe what they did was dig a trench from the fire pit and used tree bark for the top of the tunnel and then covered it with dirt so you wouldn't see it. I've seen some UA-cam videos where they've used pipe or some other way of doing it. Not a lot of people tried doing that on here. I don't know if you've ever watched Far North bushcrafting but he has a video where he breaks down exactly how to cut a tarp to make a teepee he gives you the mathematical formula to use on measurements. And shows you how to cut it really easy. He shows you how to make a teepee and then he prefers the cone more than the TP because it gives more room than the traditional teepee but it is not as tall as a normal TP. And he shows how to build each one. He draws it on paper and then he does it. He hasn't made a video in a year or more I hope the old fellow is okay. Survival Lily made one with a teepee once although hers was not as precise as his and I don't think she was able to get the smoke to draw right. She dug a tunnel I don't remember what she used but it didn't work according to plan if I remember correctly. Of course she's kind of a nut she's more in it for selling merchandise.

    if you had a better saw (maybe a folding silky) it would speed things up and using the green wood (this wasn't an emergency) but overall it's not a bad one man survival shelter

    • @Bob808Knight
      @Bob808Knight  10 місяців тому +1

      I agree craig. The saw on the machete was not good. Let's put it this way I probably could have cut through the wood faster with bank line then the saw on the machete... oh yes Greenwood would have been much better and straighter. Glad you enjoyed the video. Have an awesome evening and I'll talk to you in the next one
