  • February 23 - March 6,
1836, the province of Texas, under the possession of Mexico, rebels against the Mexican dictatorial authority and proclaims its independence. The General Sam Houston (Richard Boone) that commands the armed forces of Texas, is pursued by Santa Ana's troops, far superior in number. Houston decides to take refuge behind the Rio Grande in order to quickly reform a bigger army.
However, Houston needs time, he entrusts the Colonel Travis the mission to stem the progression of the Mexican army. The colonel entrenches himself and his fellowmen, in an old mission half destroyed and transformed for the occasion into a fortress. For 13 days, the legendary Davy Crockett (John Wayne), Jim Bowie (Richard Widmark) William Travis (Laurence Harvey) and 184 hardy Americans and Texicans hold the Alamo in hopeless combats against the massive Mexican army.
They know that the final assault will turn to a massacre, but they are ready to write down with their blood one of the most heroic pages of American history.
The Alamo was considered by John Ford as a masterpiece and ranks among cinema’s great classic and stirring movies.
    Remember the Alamo !

2022 and I still watch this scene from time to time. As a retired vet, I have a tradition to fly two flags 24/7 - the American and the Texas flags until the end of February. Then I take down the Texas flag and replace it with a replica of the flag Travis flew over the Alamo. It stays up until March 7th, the day after the Alamo fell. Obviously, I love studying history and Texas history. We have too many non-Texans now and I feel our history and yes egos are slipping by the wayside.

I'm pretty sure this is the lyrics for the part sung right after Mrs. Dickinson glares at Santa Anna and leaves. Just in case anyone's curious.
Let the old men tell the story,
Let the legend grow and grow,
Of the 13 days of glory,
    at the siege of Alamo.
    Lift up tattered banners proudly,
While the eyes of Texas shine,
Let the fort that was a mission,
    Be an everlasting shrine.
Once they fought to give us freedom,
that is all we need to know,
    the 13 days of glory,
    at the siege of Alamo.
    Now the bugles are silent,
and there's rust on each sword,
and the small band of soldiers,
lie asleep in the arms of the Lord.
Those who've stood against impossible odds, such as the Jews of Masada, the 300 Spartans, the Waldenses of Rora, and the heroes of Alamo, are an inspiration to all to stand against tyranny. They will never be forgotten.

@@tlacaelelcecelic6755There is certainly no shame attached to the Mexican soldiers, neither at the Alamo nor at Goliad. They were simply soldiers obeying orders and fighting for their country. However, I'm afraid Santa Anna was anything but a kind man. He was known to force young girls from cities they occupied to "marry" him on the spot then sleep with him until they pulled out. Also, when General Urea's army defeated Fannin's relief force and imprisoned them (approx. 350 men) at Presidio la Bahia in Goliad, Santa Anna sent him a letter telling Urea to execute them all, including the wounded. Urea (who was indeed a kind man) wrote him back stating that the men had fought honorably and were soldiers. He begged that the order to execute them be rescinded. Santa Anna wrote him back and told him that he considered them nothing more than pirates and repeated the order to execute them with no more argument.
Even I, a very dedicated Texan, have a tremendous amount of respect for General Urea. It took a great deal of courage to attempt to go against a dictator's orders. But respect for Santa Anna? I'm afraid not.

The 1960 movie, while not 100% historically accurate, was 100% effective in capturing the spirit of the Alamo defenders and the profound importance of the self-sacrifice that they made to secure the freedom of Texas.
The stand at the Alamo was one of the greatest “last stands” in all of the history of Western Civilization and ranks with Thermopylae and Roarke’s Drift as one of the 3 greatest defenses to the last man in Western history.

    • @angelblancoarts7956
      @angelblancoarts7956 5 років тому

I'd have to see the movie again to say exactly where this scene was lost and that scene. Basically, about 30 minutes were taken out of the movie that's on DVD and Blu Ray now.
      Some missing scenes include:
*A birthday party for Col. Dickenson's daughter, with everyone in the Alamo celebrating
*The death of the Parson with a very emotional speech before he dies
*A little more backstory for Flaca's lover/boyfriend, and then his death
*A few extended scenes throughout the movie, including the final battle
And a few more that I can't remember.
And yes, there IS a Director's Cut, but the original films have long since deteriorated after being poorly stored away somewhere at a former film worker's house.
The film isn't necessarily lost media, since there's still the double VHS Director's Cut Edition (or as it says on the cover "Original Uncut Version") But due to the original film strips being lost, there might never be a Director's Cut DVD or Blu Ray.
Closest we'll have to The Director's Cut in disk format is the Laserdisc version.

Ci sono anche altre imprecisioni architettoniche, quindi molto bella e molto bella per me come valutazione è 7,5.

This movie could have been a lot better, John Wayne is a hell of a great actor but not a very good director.
A lot of these problems are found within the films script which was unnecessarily long (put down your keyboards! Yes, I have the attention span much longer than a goldfish thank you very much) I love historical epics, they are one of my favorite types of genres (Lawrence of Arabia, Bridge on the the River Kwai, Doctor Zhviago, How the West was won, Ben Hur, Gone with the Wind etc) this film could have been up there, but it has its flaws, one of them as mentioned before is its screenplay.
Wayne is no stranger filmmaking, but The Alamo (1960) includes many subplots and characters that have no point in being there. For example, there’s a sub plot where Davy Crockett falls in love with a Mexican Woman who is in an arranged marriage with a supporter of Santa Anna. This could have led to something but no instead she disappears within the 1st half never to be seen again.
Play a drinking game, take a shot every time some threatens to leave the Alamo, you’ll be dead before the movie is over. I got way too sick and tired of seeing Bowie way “I’m leaving with my boys”, you can get away with it once but after that it loses all of its impact fullness.
I won’t be the first to say it but John Wayne should have played Bowie instead of Crockett.
I do like how Wayne is able to direct the battle scenes. The excitement one gets from watching a small group of rabble fight off against an overwhelming Mexican Force is incredible. I am glad they didn’t vilify the Mexicans, which they very well could have. I just wish we could have gotten more of this instead of watching Crockett and Co go on another raid. If about 20-30 minutes of this film was trimmed, we would have had a better product.
I love John Wayne to death but this is definitely one of his weaker films. Instead of the great American icon I view him as, this film is what I call the “cartoony John Wayne”. It’s almost like something you’d see the characters watching on t.v in the Simpsons.
So yeah about a 5 or 6/10 for me.

Pretty good movie . Not historical accuracy . But I seen 5 times is good movie made . Good production. Hollywood should a make a movie of South America history. Simon bolivar , Jose Antonio de sucre , Miranda, narino , Northern part of South America. Southern part of South America. San Martin, o'higgins , Leon de Almeida. And the gauchos of Southern Uruguay. And the armies campesinos of Paraguay. United States in the past wanted to invade South America. During the time of Mexican American War. But later with intelligence decided not . 1. Reason the generals were young and very very very tactical. Strategist. Used and known the topography. Highlands altitude more than 2000 meters above sea level . The jungles close to the Amazon. We're most natives were against any invasion and know how to fight in the jungle with traps . The size of South America is large . And during that time were no tanks . Only personnel to land on a beach waiting . Inland . So I guess seeing all that and already wasting most of the resources . And winning . attacking or invading South America, no go . Too risky. Would had too many casualties.

@@martyrobbins5241 That goes for a majority of all historical movies ever made in the US. In this case, it would stir less interest had Wayne stuck to the way the final battle got executed, being done at dusk of dawn and over within some 20 minutes. Mexican casualties were huge due to charge directly into cannon fire of defenders...that much was correct. The later Disney version was more correct but boring as hell.
