- 1836, the province of Texas, under the possession of Mexico, rebels against the Mexican dictatorial authority and proclaims its independence. The General Sam Houston (Richard Boone) that commands the armed forces of Texas, is pursued by Santa Ana's troops, far superior in number. Houston decides to take refuge behind the Rio Grande in order to quickly reform a bigger army.
However, Houston needs time, he entrusts the Colonel Travis the mission to stem the progression of the Mexican army. The colonel entrenches himself and his fellowmen, in an old mission half destroyed and transformed for the occasion into a fortress. For 13 days, the legendary Davy Crockett (John Wayne), Jim Bowie (Richard Widmark) William Travis (Laurence Harvey) and 184 hardy Americans and Texicans hold the Alamo in hopeless combats against the massive Mexican army.
They know that the final assault will turn to a massacre, but they are ready to write down with their blood one of the most heroic pages of American history.
The Alamo was considered by John Ford as a masterpiece and ranks among cinema’s great classic and stirring movies.

Most folks don't know that when Laurence Harvey (Colonel William Barret Travis, SC) fired the cannon, it recoiled and came down on his foot, breaking it. That scene was one cut. He didn't flinch. Hell of an actor.
I've heard about that, but in this scene when the cannon is fired, it doesn't recoil at all. Notice the cannon when it's fired in this scene. It goes off, but it doesn't move at all. Since the cannon doesn't move at all, how did it land on Travis's foot?
@@davidcolantuono3622 You can look up where it shattered his foot. He's got his boot off getting it wrapped by medical staff on set. And several of the actors that witnessed it attest to it happening.
@@blackdevildog6416 You can also see him limp a bit as he walks off.
@@blackdevildog6416 I watched this scene again. And, I looked with my dad. Neither one of us saw the cannon recoil in this scene. I suspect that it was another scene. In fact, there is another scene with Harvey close to a cannon that, after firing, *DID* recoil. I believe it's during the first wave attack somewhere.
@@davidcolantuono3622 That's how it was relayed by other actors that were on set with Harvey at the time.
A great movie. Not very historically accurate, but still a great action movie.
Saw this in the theater as a kid. The cannon really boomed!
Thank you for sharing this video
Thank you for the Great video
This is what Governor Abbott should do to stop the Mexican government and Cartels from invading Texas.
Tx has a boss and that's the US
In his wheelchair? 😂 He's a joke of a governor.
You do realize that the majority of the settlers involved in the Texas Revolution were illegal immigrants
My friends and I went to the Alamo the John Wayne Alamo and we filmed a bunch of videos there standing on the same walls as the actress did what are Flintlock muskets Civil War Gatling gun and Napoleon Cannon Remember the Alamo God bless the Republic of Texas I've also been to the Embassy of Texas in Europe in Europe There's an actual Texas Embassy in Europe that flies to Texas flag
What a great closing line
The Mexican Herald is a good horseman.
The Mexican herald (Lt. Rodriguez? Lt. Reyes?) was quite an impressive horseman. The actor playing him though looked and sounded more like a Spaniard than a real Mexican. Moved like a bullfighter.
Gotta respect this General Santa Ana; Mexico wasn't even fully Mobilized then, imagine the damage they would have done of they were fully Mobilized?
They were fully mobilized… he just had so many people revolting against him that he had armies in every corner of Mexico making his conduct in Texas look tame in comparison. One of his right hand subordinates effectively wiped out the state of Zacatecas following his orders
Came here for John Dierkes
The best decision ever made. However, hundred year later, Santa Ana's children all living in Texas, waiting to arise.
Hold the line
Tapers and those who tape.
Where is the cannon a hot.
1:15 I didn't know Speedy Gonzales was in this movie. Ándale!
Ladies will take cover Men two your battle positions The Stonewall Brigade is here to help you men up And to your post let no man forget today at your firm old Texas an old Virginia and old Tennessee for your lands for your homes for your sweetheart for your wives for your family for freedom
Nous sommes cuits vamos luttons
Looks like they had more than 185 men in the Alamo.
185 is the average historians have settled on. The number goes as high as 300 depending how they calculate the size of the garrison
It's crazy how Mexico treat their own by ripping a guy's white shirt off like that.
Dictators and their thugs murder their own
This movie was so bs. I thought Zorro himself was going to make his appearance. Lol
The Mexicans invited the Americans in as farmers .
They repaid this kind offer by hoisting an American flag and saying land was there’s now.
Mexico had no choice but to claim its sovereign land, and offered very favorable Surender ter terms..
Y'all lost, be grateful we didn't annex all of Mexico
@@LaneCorbett "we" you didn't do f all son ,stop trying to take the achievements of others as yours
América is a huge landmass 🌎
Santa Ana sent troops to tell them to leave... evacuate the mission Alamo... this was Mexican land and was invaded.
Seems Not accurate according to Mexican history.
our land forever and ever !! 🇲🇽 sin contar que le robaron a mexico mas de la mitad de su territorio we want our land back to mexico !! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽 viva México
They should have left the South to the blacks the west to the whites n Mexico to the Mexicans
Taco Troops.
This where good soldiers! !!! They fought for there country! ! I respect all soldiers from all countries! !! It takes men to go in to battle knowing you might no come out alive! !! But they go that makes a man !!! Not this pucks today they would shit in there pants at the sounds of battle! !!!!
In the other hand burguer troops.
These Mexican troops were putting down revolutions all their lives.
Also if Maximilian (emperor of Mexico 1864-67 ) would have survived , they would of joined the confederacy in the war. The north would of lost, in definitely.
@@javierbaron1856 Yeah, they were great at fighting unorganized farmers and peasants. When faced with a trained and organized army they would have been wiped out.
@@daliavidrio6591 Well this was the Republic of Texas, so they were Steak Soldiers
