    There's so much here that resonates with my spiritual experience. I recently finished reading Revelation of the Unknowable God, a trext in the Dead Sea scrolls, translated by Karen L King. This text uses the term "The Knower and the Known" to explain the seeming dichotomy between our personal ego-based I, and the "I AM GOD" aspect of ourselves, which we share with all other Divine living beings, making us all ONE. One concept that helped me understand this dual nature of ourselves is my deep belief in reincarnation, even though I'm a Christian (no contradiction really), and also my understanding of how our brains work. I no longer have a sense that my consciousness is encased within my skull. I sense myself immersed in one Divine cosmic consciousness field, which I consider the Mind of Christ. We all partake of it. It becomes "our" personal, ego-based consciousness field as it is filtered through certain of our brain processes.We create our own neural networks - nets, literally, that ensnare this pure Divine consciousness field we all "drink" from
    and personalize it.
    Brain researchers have discovered that MEANINGFULNESS. our sense of what has meaning for us, largely determines the creation
    of our neural nets, what ideas, thoughts, experiences, teachings, etc., are woven into our neural nets (the more intricate and larger ones
    containing the ideas, thoughts, beliefs, etc., that have the most meaning to us). Our brain accepts and rejects each new concept at a rapid speed of electrical activity that is below our conscious awareness. Those who study learning theory suggest using novel terms for an idea, etc., bypasses this below conscious awareness "accept" or "reject" filtering process, to re-evaluate ideas, etc., that would automatically be rejected otherwise. I'll stop here because I sometimes get shadow banned if my comments run too long. Maybe I'll finish this thought up on your website. Thank you, Peter. for this very interesting presentation.

    If you are a questioner of truth and are determined to get answers, setting such intentions before taking psychedelics can result in a deep religious experience. It can be like a right of passage to deeper meaning and clearer seeing.

      I agree with what you said but unfortunately people in our culture don't understand the religious / spiritual aspect of psychedelics and label them as mere hallucinations created in the mind and nothing more. A true psychedelic experience can feel very similar to the near death experience

      Jordan Gould Sadly the same can be said for spirituality in general, many people do not realise that there is anything beyond the superficial. Tripping just becomes an extension of that ignorance, or if they are lucky it triggers the search for deeper understanding. Each time I have tripped it has been like a rebirth. Scary at the time but always a great learning experience. I had no experience or understanding of what people call "God" until I took psychedelics.

      yes I died in my last trip. The realization was, that what I truly am, can never die, was never born, is all there is

    Think about what you will take with you after you leave this planet and concentrate on that. Everything else, relatively speaking, pales in comparison.

    Duality is not real in my opinion. If you define Duality it means, that there are different, separate substances, both in it's original meaning as subsistere and substrare. Duality is avidya, to ignore it's interdependent counterpart. What I mean with it, reality is the absolute panorama of the immediate present experience. Even our seperational activity with the language is illusion or maya. If you light a candle, there is not light and shadow appearing as separate entites. The process of "lightdarkness" is in itself empty and appears as such in its completeness immediately, it has no separation and simply is. The thing you are doing with defining words is drawing conceptual lines in the pattern of the process and define the one as the "not the other one", but yet they are clearly the same, but not understood in immediate conceptual lingustic terms. If you say light, you are implicitly saying not light. If you are saying darkness, you are implicitly saying not darkness. Not darkness and light, not light and darkness are the same. You need both, or other said, they are never separated beacuse it is not "they" it is IT - the patterning of the universe.
    The problem appears if you take dualism for real and are in illusion that separate things exists. It is illusion in its truest sense, but not something that you can rationalize away, because rationalizing is separating, is strengthening the illusion. Therefore practices are needed like psychedelics, meditation and many more because they step out of the identification with only thoughts

    • @peter-russell
      @peter-russell  5 років тому +4

      Yes. And your last comment is particularly relevant. Our thoughts are intrinsically dualistic, and any process that helps us step out of them, or no longer identify with them is valuable.
