  • Inappropriate clothing, items, signs, gestures- we'd see all sorts of things that people wanted to get a photo of that we couldn't take. What photos couldn't we take? Which ones were wrong? And what did we do to avoid taking those?
    A behind the scenes look at what a former worker at Disney World, Silver Dollar City, and Busch Gardens Florida experienced in his time working at the parks. From driving large safari trucks around live wild animals while cracking one silly joke after another, to spending 5 years as a #PhotoPass photographer at #WaltDisneyWorld and seeing and experiencing all sorts of things, to being a conductor and #trainrobber on the famous Frisco Silver Dollar Line at #SilverDollarCity. With 10 years of working in the parks, there's lots of stories to tell. Here is some of them...
    Not only did I work in theme parks for 10 years, I've visited a whole lot of them as well. Here's some stories of great visits, not so great visits, favorites, reviews, and much more.

    I like wearing non disney cartoon characters shirts to the disney parks mainly when meeting characters because depending on the character or characters and what character you meet will give you a fun interaction if you bring it up to them, this is especially with that time I had with Alice and my Cuphead Shirt, I still remember how her and the Mad Hatter adored Cuphead and Mugman so much

    WOW! I had no idea how much work goes into making sure guests don’t sneak in something inappropriate. Very happy to know sounds like they have it well in hand to make sure it’s just happy clean safe fun photos! Thank you again for another interesting video! 🦋😊🙏

    This was super interesting! I haven't been to Disneyworld since I was 3 and I've never been to Disneyland. That was super long ago seeing as I'm 40 as of today! Most of all, I want to get a photo with Aurora. My middle name is Briar Rose so I have a special interest when it comes to Sleeping Beauty 😋

    So going back to the branded T-shirts about sports teams, mls major league, soccer or NASCAR shirts that have multiple sponsors on them some of them would be family friendly. Some of the companies are not, but they’re real small on the shirts.

    • @SirWillow
      @SirWillow  10 місяців тому

      Generally those aren't going to be a problem. A small logo on various others isn't a big deal. It's more the main subject of what's on the shirt. A NASCAR shirt is advertising a car and driver, while the product/ sponsor is a much smaller part of it so not really an issue.

      yeah, I have a feeling. That is if they're even able to see them well from the boxes. The photos that we had from them were pretty bad

    I asked for a picture that I didn't know if it would go through QA. Myself and my two boys (about 10yo and 13yo) I'm making a strangle motion towards my oldest, while they are making candid just dismissive gestures at me. It went through and it's one of my favorite pics from that trip.

    Had somebody photobomb my picture at HS last year. The photographer didn’t do a thing and so now I have a picture of some idiot trying to be funny by ruining my picture

    I wonder would a shirt with a Dalek on it yelling extranateeee with a photo of Ron desantis on the end get past Q&A ? Lol and great video makes you think so much about what goes on behind the lens

    • @SirWillow
      @SirWillow  10 місяців тому

      as I said, it has nothing to do with whether or not it's a Disney or other company thing. It's all about whether or not the shirt could be perceived as offensive or inappropriate- e.g. blood, guts/ horror. Would a kid be scared by it? Not by a dalek. :-)

    Thank you for that informative video, I have always have a feeling that was the case with Disney photographers
    Because one time I was in Disneyland with a traveling group called Trips Inc & we were in line to get our photos from Splash Mountain & I was in the the end of the line, I saw a Castmember talking to a bunch of teenage girls off to the side asking where the photo that two of them were on & the reason why was the photo was flagged
    Just before the big drop, the two teens showed their you know whats for the camera & the CM was telling them that’s why but these airheads got mad & told the CM either sell them the picture or they will report her, the CM gave them a solid no so the teens left
    A little later a guy asked the CM where’s his photo & it turned out he was on the same boat as the two teens were on so the CM told him the reason & he was upset, the CM said he could ride again so the CM helped him get back on the ride

    One thing I feel you missed - The positioning of the Characters Hands.
    When I was a mall Santa a big rule was make sure both hands are clearly visible at all times...so that I wasn't taking photos with people (especially girls) where you couldn't see what both my hands were doing. I feel that's something Disney would have in place.
    Also - where does Disney fall with sports teams logos in pictures? Just since a Roosters logo or a Magpies logo is that companies branding, are those waters murkey or is it all good?

    • @SirWillow
      @SirWillow  7 місяців тому +1

      Sports logos weren't a problem at all.
      Hands were one thing we looked for, and the characters did get coaching on. But I don't talk about it much as there is t much to say without risking crossing into dangerous ground. Other than saying pretty much what you did. :-)

    This was very interesting! Didnt know there was such control over the pictures. There seemed to be clear guidelines, but at some point, wouldnt some "innapropriate" things be more subjective? I dont have clear exemple, but its obvious to me that some things might be innapropriate to me, but not to my neighbor. Also, using the exemple of horror and blood, would QA judge shirts about movies under the Miramax or Touchtone labels? Two titles come to mind: The Crow, and Watcher in the Woods.

    • @SirWillow
      @SirWillow  10 місяців тому

      It's not the labels or production companies. It's all about what is on the shirt. If it's a horror/ blood/ guts motif they're going to err on the side of caution. If they really aren't sure, they may ask a second opinion, but more than likely they'll just "hide" the photos.
      They actually have pretty clear guidelines written and spelled out, so there aren't many judgement calls.

    Very interesting today, thank you! Silly question I just realised I have though, are cameras connected to wifi now and that's how they get to the QA?
    I understood the photo information was stored in the physical cards you get given and the computer just translated it.
    Tell me if I'm NSFM but I feel like I've misunderstood summink XD

    • @SirWillow
      @SirWillow  10 місяців тому

      They only used cards for the first year or two. Once they started using PDAs they were able to start uploading with wifi, and have been doing that since at least 2006, and I think actually in 2005.
      That's how you are able to see your photos in the app or store within just a few minutes of taking them.

      @@SirWillow Ah, thank you. I figured it was wired for the roller coaster type cameras (and I assume these new box cameras) but I dunno why I never considered these cameras nowadays have wifi.

    I am sure this is already answered, but I am asking anyways. What was the protocol if another guest did something (i.e., inappropriate hand single when walking by) and wasn't caught during the shoot. Would the same arrangements be made for a retake. Or like an inappropriate tee shirt that comes through in the background. Just curious knowing how people can be sometimes.

    • @SirWillow
      @SirWillow  10 місяців тому +2

      first thing QA would hide the photo. On those occasions QA missed it and we caught it at the view we could subject them to review, which did the same thing, and then offer a retake. It didn't happen often, but those rare times it did we did have the options to do it again.

    Without giving away any secrets or jeopardizing anyone's safety, what can you tell us about the security personnel in the parks? If you encountered an unruly guest, did you have a way to call for help immediately? Does Disney rely more heavily on a human presence or surveillance cameras?

    • @SirWillow
      @SirWillow  10 місяців тому +1

      Can't comment on that for a few reasons. 1. I wasn't in security so not my department. and 2. NDA's are going to cover a lot of that as well. They don't want people knowing about those things for good reasons. :-)

  • @jimsmith9545

    Is QA an actual position or do "normal" Photopass photographers have to cycle through it or what?

    • @Roadent1241
      @Roadent1241 10 місяців тому

      An actual thing I understand, from a previous video, it's like an office hidden elsewhere with a lot of servers and screens that receive all the pictures, like when you come out of a roller coaster but multiplied and there's at least two pairs of eyes.

    • @SirWillow
      @SirWillow  10 місяців тому +3

      It's an actual separate department and division now. It's always had separate facilities and cast. But when I was there was still some of us that crossed over part time or helped out. That ended years ago and its a much more firm split now. Many if not most are former photographers though.
