- In this demonstration, I talk about and show how to start an abstract with drawing a thumbnail sketch. Many artist struggle knowing how to begin an abstract from the beginning, and this is one way to get the creative juices started.

Thank you for being an artist that is not afraid to share your knowledge and process. So many “demo” or “tutorial” videos exist where the artist barely shows anything or “forgets to start recording” during pivotal points in their artworks. Please don’t ever change. Artists like you are few and far between. ❤
I love helping! Thank you for your sweet comment! Yes, many artists keep things close to their vest!
You inspired me to paint again. After 20 years. I had forgotten the peace I find when I have a brush in my hand. Thank you, Cheryl!
Your comment is why I do these videos. Thank you for trying again!!! I honestly feel art heals
I didn’t realize how ‘unloose’ I am. Love your style and the apparent lack of control you have. That, I know, comes with experience and is your genius. Awesome, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! And thank you for being a subscriber. The video coming out tomorrow will be fun for you as I show several paintings I struggled with and had to really let go of control. My YT members have watched it already and left comments that it helped them, so I hope you enjoy it..... look for it tomorrow 11am EST!!

I've been having a terrible time getting started with a painting and found your demo to be a very useful way to begin. I've also been wanting to experiment with abstract design and found it helpful for that as well, so thank you!
I am so happy, I continue to create videos because I truly want to help others create. Thank you for your comment.
I really enjoy your videos and how you just flow into an easy way of painting. I like how you share what you do for different aspects of your process and you leave a quiet space to simply observe you in action. And for sharing so many helpful and novel ( to me) ideas! Much gratuiude!
I appreciate your comments so much!!! I share freely to help others grow in their artist journey
I wish I could help you out, but….I’m already a subscriber!!! 😊❤

thank you Julie!! I appreciate the comment. I have wondered if I should keep my channel going and your comment helps encourage me
Thanks for sharing Cheryl! I like the colors a lot.
Thank you for your continued support ellen
Loved it. I always over do mine. Yours is so cute.
YES, over doing happens so often!! I use a lot of white paint to veil when that happens. Or try zinc white to cover areas? it is such a learning path.
Thankyou for sharing your process.
Thank you so much
Love these and what a great way to get started. Thank you so much!,
Thank you Connie!!!
Beautiful Cheryl! I especially love the combo of Indian yellow and phthalo turquoise
Thanks so much! It is a beautiful combo I LOVE the turquoise so much. When I first started painting almost all of my paintings were some shade of turquoise!!!
I sometimes get lost or too busy in this process. Is there such a thing as abstract “structure” in your thinking process while using curvilinear forms/shapes?
I think more about the values rather than a structured process. But not in the under paintings (first layers), I try to just play and take risks and not think so much about the outcome. Then look at values to finish the painting. This is a growing and learning process for all artists as value is something that is learned in my humble opinion.
How do I purchase charcoal and what fixative did you use on the charcoal? Love your creativity
if you go to my Amazon store I have several types of charcoal. There are willow vine thin ones, powder, Pencils which you might start with a.co/6dPDXuM and for the fixative, the Sennelier Delacroix Fixative, is for charcoal and the link to those are here a.co/bXUa8Z9
There are others that all you need to do is look for fixative for charcoals and some other might come up, but the Sennelier will last a long time and it is also known in the industry as a good non yellowing, acid free pick!! I hope this helps
I’d that an acrylic spray for the stencil?
Yes gold is the brand
What was that white jar?
Thicker paint. I hope you enjoyed Carol and that I was able to answer all your questions. Let me know if I did not
Acrylic inks and acrylics?
Yes on these!!! I use a lot of goldens
Yes, on this I used both
Are the acrylics high flow?
Yes, they spread nicely
Do your hands clean up easily?
I use a scrub brush in the shower or bath! But as I paint daily, I have paint somewhere, you can you glove in a bottle first to coat your skin, or gloves, but I love to touch the paint
Yes
What do you think that white smear added?
All personal to each artist.
