That Assert and Obliterate technique blew my mind! The visual depth it created in just the second layer was amazing to me. I look forward to knowing whether this becomes the final piece, or whether you develop it further.
Such a fun way of working. I love your results and am amazed at the depth you created by simply reacting to what came before. I must try this. Thanks for the inspiration.
I cannot wait to try this! And like others, I like what you've done with the painting. I'll watch for your follow-up with this piece because I can't imagine it getting any better.
Love the way you just let go. I paint and have to plan everything beforehand and sometimes I do 10 drawings with different tones but it is........exhausting so I haven't painted for a while. I will just try this and see what happens. It is certainly more fun and adventurous. Ty for putting this on video....=) from Australia.
You are so welcome. We all have different painting processes, but if your process is leaving you exhausted and leaving you uninspired, then go for it. If there is one thing I know, it's that your art should make you happy and leave you longing for more. Let me know how it goes or if there is anything I can do to help! 🤗💖
I loved how this one progressed. The white over black over white really created interestin texture that just really showed up once you started adding concentrated areas of black. Definitely wnat to try this. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much. By chance, I happened on your video after just finishing stage 2 (black, then white) on a large paper. Didn’t know where to go next with it, and now, thanks to you, I know exactly where to go.
Pure Creativity - loving this process, Cathy. I think you must have been deep in the zone with this. Looks like it was hard to stop. It was truly a metamorphosis. So difficult to jump back in with colour, or anything alien to the strong design but either way it's a winner.
Wowsa working on 2 black and white pieces for an upcoming call...I love this Cathy! I cant wait to see the final. Thank you for the inspiration to get started...checking you out on IG too. Best, Sarah

Thanks Linda! We’re just outside of Chicago atm, but changing our plans because of the DNC starting tomorrow. 😅Heading to the badlands instead! Looking forward it! ❤
I loved watching you do this..Music was perfect for your sped up version. Inspired to go have some fun with this techique today. I loved where you left it btw. Reminded me of a mountainscape.
Thank you so much. So glad that you feel inspired. That's why I do this UA-cam thing. 💗 Enjoy your weekend. Hopefully you'll get som paint on those fingers! 🤗
Love this demo! Very inspiring. I just didn’t like the music! It gets on my nerves and I mute it but then I don’t get your comments. Your lovely work doesn’t need this generic music, or if you must do it, could it be much softer, more like a peaceful background to your amazing work? Sorry, I don’t mean to sound so negative, I love your work
Sorry to hear you don’t like the music. It is a big part of who I am, but I will give your feedback some thought. Glad you enjoyed the painting though. 🩷
@@CathyMevikthank you for considering this request. I have sensory issues and cant tolerate the music. It can also make your very helpful videos inaccessible to some people with hearing loss.
OMG!!! I hesitated to watch this one because well I'm not a black and white type of person (LOL). But honestly, I'm totally blown away. I completely fell in love with your artistic sensibility, mesmerized by watching you approach that canvas, totally able to buy-in to you being in the flow. THANK YOU for sharing this technique. I've witnessed other artists taking this approach but without any context for what is happening. Now I know.both what it is called and the process. I am overwhelmed with excitement knowing I can now explore it with context. So sorry that there is a sense of loneliness in UA-cam world. I assure you that you are not alone - that in fact you are being watched and appreciated by those of us all over the world, and in my case, on the other side of the globe!! Also -- I NEEDED this today. Stepping into my corporate job this morning was feeling daunting, but I've come away from watching the video with a renewed commitment to pull out the art supplies later in the day. AND finally, I LOVED the piece as it evolved. It would be fine to stop now, yet I'm somewhat excited to know what might happen if you moved it forward in some way. 🖤🤍❤🤍🖤
Thank you so much for such an awesome comment Paul! Just knowing I’ve been able to help one person makes it worth the time and effort I put into creating and editing my UA-cam videos. 🙏🩷 So glad you feel excited to try this for yourself! 👏 💜

Well done and inspiring. It will be nice to see your next steps and the final piece. Very nice.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed watching. 🩷 I haven't touched it yet, and still not sure if I want to or not. Time will tell!😂
This was just what I needed right now! Thanks so much. I love how you stopped and didn't obliterate a second time. I think it was a good decision.
Thsnks Jane! I agree. Going to let it sit until I am sure. 🩷
@@CathyMevik Please start a new one, and do another YT video on it.

I loved this at least 3 times! It is so hard to know when to stop. !!!
Stop when it makes you feel good. Keep painting and over time you’ll progress 🥰
