Gundula Janowitz.....in my ears connected with this short , but magical solo from Brahms Deutsches Requiem, not only this chant of comfort by Brahms , of course , but it is a special recording under the baton of Karajan 1963, I have still the old LP and here 9:15 joined with Edith Mathis : Mr Mozart will bless them both ......and Joseph Schmidt, know this and his or son sei mesi also from my records....he has once again this orphic sound here, listen f ex to the line 14:30 "und täglich haucht meine Lippe ein glühend Gebet", remains a tragical fate, this life in this time ......and special thanks for these impressive slide show of fotos, so exciting to listen and to look❤5:27 Mario & Renata
Thank you for listening/watching, I'm really pleased that you like the video. I had one of my cataracts fixed just before Christmas and the improved vision is like a miracle so, hopefully, the colorized photos will be better in future!
Thank you so much, Michael, for this beautiful video! 🙏🍀 Again, it‘s a wide-ranging selection in terms of the singers as well as the music! ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I was happy to discover two of my favourite tenors (guess who they are 😉) plus other singers (and music!) I appreciate. Thank you also for the wonderful photos! I actually got a chance to sit down and watch while listening which is not always the case!
It's my pleasure as always Harriet, thank you for listening/watching. I can't imagine who your favourites might be but I seem to remember you mentioning Mario Lanza and Joseph Schmidt, although I may be wrong, of course. I'm very fond of the photos myself and I'm going to devote some time to new ones instead of recycling the same ones to save time.
@@michaelmcgrailengland You have a great memory, Michael! 👍 These two are on my „top ten favourite tenors“ list. Although sometimes I feel like it better be a top fifteen, extensions possible. Since I don‘t have a photographic memory, I always take delight in looking at the pictures you post, Michael, even if they are recycled! Add the fact that often I don‘t get a chance to watch because I‘m listening while working on something that doesn‘t involve the brain - so my concentration is entirely on the music - and you‘ll understand how and why everything almost always seems new to me! But I realize that other listeners may feel differently, so it might be a nice idea to add some new ones from time to time. But, hey, you are the giver, so you decide! Don‘t let yourself be pushed by anybody else! As always, warm regards! ☘️🍀☘️

It's my pleasure Lilia, thank you for listening, I was hoping you would find this one. You mentioned that you had been to a concert at the Boris Christoff Museum.
Thanks for listening Rosa, I'm glad that like this one. I'm trying out these short selections of mixed singers in the hope that they might introduce younger listeners to the great singers of the past.
Thanks for listening to this one as well Terry, if UA-cam can't help you to recover, nothing can but it seems to me that you're feeling better already!!
@@MountainwalkwithMusicIt's my pleasure Chang, thank you for listening. Your video of your hike in the snow looks good, I'll bet you enjoyed it. Oh, and the Christmas lights on your previous video are excellent, much better than those we have in our home town, but the authorities are always having to cut costs so that they can keep essential services going. See you Chang (much better now with my new eye!!)

There are no known live recordings of Lanza singing O Sole Mio. He recorded the piece three times - on 28 October 1949 for RCA record release, on 14 June 1951 for his Coca-Cola radio shows and in September 1958 for the soundtrack of his For The First Time movie. The overdubbed applause on the recording you have posted suggests it is the one made for the Coca-Cola shows.
Thanks for listening and for your suggestions. I found the recordings that you mention when I was trying to track it down (although I think the Coca cola was Aug 51) plus another from 1948 and non matched the recording on my CD. However, since your message I've looked at it again and I'm certain that it is the 1949 studio recording with added applause. Thanks again for the help.
@@michaelmcgrailengland As far as the Coca-Cola show recording is concerned I think you may be confusing the broadcast date with the recording date. He recorded O Sole Mio for the Coke shows at Radio Recorders on 14 June 1951. It was first used in the 17 June 1951 Coke show and then subsequently reused in the 26 August 1951 show. What is the 1948 recording to which you refer?

👏👏👏Ces voix sont belles, sans aucun doute , mais il n'y a qu' une seule voix de génie : celle de Mario Lanza.
