Most of the more severe illnesses happen to people by having a traumatic event take them by surprise, unexpectantly, impacting first in the brain, then in the corresponding organ which that part of the brain controls. The end of WWI had absolutely everything to do with the Flu and lung TB outbreak that occurred killing millions. In nature, the biological conflict linked with a territorial fear (just what it means-a fear in your territory, your home, your community, etc.) is a widening of the bronchia (tissue loss). Your body attempts to widen your bronchia in order to allow more air into your lungs to give you more strength and energy to fight to keep your territory safe. Stay with me.......The biological conflict linked with a death fright impacts the lungs. The lungs attempt to grow larger in order to allow more air in because breath equals life, as we all know. No breath equals death.
While you are in the fear or death fright conflict, you notice no symptoms of “disease”, except you have cold hands, cold feet, you can’t sleep, you awaken at 3 AM every night, you have little appetite. During the war, millions of people were in fear of the bombing of their homes and cities where the war was most active. Fearing for their lives, their loved ones in the war, their ability to survive. The food in the stores was sparse due to shortages. This lasted for 4 long years! The longer the conflict, the worse the healing phase. Within 2 weeks of the German Chancellor announcing the end of WWI, these millions of people ALL went into the healing phase all at the same time. It is during the healing phase that you experience symptoms of illness! What is the healing phase of the bronchia widening? Severe bronchitis, pneumonia. The body attempts to refill this lost tissue and you experience inflammation, fever, coughing, body aches, fatigue, etc. What is the healing phase of the extra lung tissue that grew? Decomposing of the tissue by TB bacteria and fungi. The symptoms of this healing phase are: severe coughing up of blood and tissue, fever, inflammation, severe mucous, body aches, fatigue. During this decomposing of the extra tissue (tumor), the body expels a lot of protein, and without replenishment, severe protein loss can result in death. Antibiotics did not exist yet. If TB bacteria does not exist in a person or they have been vaccinated against TB (big mistake), then the tumor will simply encapsulate and become dormant and not harm you. Who died during the Spanish Flu? Mainly the poor who could not afford to buy meat and proper nourishment, and the people who were directly impacted by the bombings and destruction of their homes.
Millions of people suffered fear and death frights during the fighting of WWI, and millions of people all went into healing at the end of it. Not everyone was affected because not everyone suffered the same way.
It’s not a “flu”, it’s not something you “catch”. It’s biological, meaningful, and unavoidable. One hundred years later, a Fear Campaign begins, using the media to spread it......

Riley has no idea how easy it is to alter Bert’s entire life course with just a few pleasing sentences. Bert’s like ok so I’ll buy a boat, ship it to your house in Australia, we’ll have beers then sail to Hawaii, film it, climb for coconuts, I’ll send Georgia and Isla to college, my wife can hang out at home there’s some gardening she wants to do anyway, we’ll sail back to Australia, pick up Elaina and the kids, beers, sail to LA, pick up Tom, push, nedav, and I guess my wife, quick sail to spain, air bnb, margs, beers, Tommy will pick up the boat I made him buy, then we dual sail back to LA, beers.

I know right. I was just explaining to my step father tonight why I listen to so many diff podcasts. I said well they are all pretty much comedy podcasts. 9/10 that I like and watch are all hosted by a comic etc. but they have on all sorts of guests like Theo having a Turkey farmer and a toot and Rogan ofcourse will Elon and Lex it’s not always dick and fart jokes some of them are super interesting. My step father is also a sailer and pilot so some time ago I turned him onto SLV. Today wouldn’t ya know I see a notification for bertcast and the guest is fricken Riley. Moral of the story I guess would be that I willed this episode into existence to prove to my step father that I’m not just a piece of Shit drinking all his cokes and air conditioning the entire neighborhood. Suck it Greg.

Who is Bert?
We love Riley and Elayna! We are patrons of theirs and had the opportunity to spend time on their catamaran when they were in southern Florida. What a wonderful time. Riley is a true intellect. In-person he is just as fascinating as he is on this podcast. Elayna is a wonderful soul. She does it all!

Not all, but a lot. that’s for sure. She does a good job filming and editing and filming Riley‘s opinions and Riley’s points of view about where they’re going, how long is going to take, what the sea conditions will be, and when they will arrive. And that’s a lot too!
It’s just trippy that Bert can watch the same UA-cam channels as you, only difference is he can call the people on them to come hang out 😆

THIS is possibly the greatest thing to happen in the 5 years ive been following SLV. Riley is an absolute legend and wholesome dude!
Met Riley in Adelaide about 5 years ago. Absolute legend. Chilled friendly guy who was polite enough to stop and chat with some random dude in a suit as he was walking in the mall (even though he was clearly heading somewhere). Would be great to see this Hawaii trip happen.
Riley and Elayna gave me laughter, adventure, struggles, and out of all them years, instead of breaking up or calling it quits when they had Lenny they keep amazing everyone. Importantly its the smile they put on my face in the end of all that. Sure it on the sea but it alot more than that, its the interaction between them that keeps me watching.
Riley is a great human. Been following them since they put out their first video. It was fun to watch him slowly fall into hanging out :) Great show fellas.
Totally laid back interview. Like two old friends, hanging out, having a few beers and shooting the shit. Loved it. Been watching Sailing La Vagabonde since day one; seen it all. Amazing sailing and family. So glad you had Riley on. A real, down to earth person, no bullshit.

Man great episode! Riley is so authentic and lives such an interesting life it's hard not to appreciate the guy and his accomplishments. Bert is such a star for having Riley on and genuinely being interested in Sailing La Vagabond, I feel is what makes this episode great. I would love to see these two humans sail together for sure!

He is a quiet lad, like most country boys - so you rarely here him breaking down his life and where he derived... so this was perfect. This guy and his family are rad. I found him a month or so ago. I follow a couple of other sailing couples and families. So fun and a big dream. Im teaching my sons to sail next summer. I taught myself when I was 12 and loved it ever since. Thanks Bert and Riley for this fun time. OY!!!

I've been following La Vagabonde for 4 years. Bert is absolutely right about how cool it is to watch their videos and kinda get lost in a vicarious dream of sailing and adventure. Seem like good people you would like to hang out with. The Atlantic crossing was crazy. I followed the passage on the real time sea navigating system they were using (I forget the name). You could see weather data display and their position mapped. I was freaking out at times. (I worked on lobstering and fishing boats so I knew what they were up against.) Bert, make that sail to Hawaii thing happen. It would be a hit for sure.
Man, I can't wait to see you out here in San Diego. Got super lucky and they actually had a couple tickets left in the front section. 💪
Man this is pure gold. I’ve seen Bert with Tom but that’s the only way I knew him. I’ve followed Riley and Elayna for years. Listened to the entire pod as I sit here and pound on my keyboard at work. Riley is a classic smart kid who managed to be in the right place at the right time... and the Elayna came along and smashed it out of the park and the ball’s still flying, no ego no big noting themselves, they just plain are.

Hope Riley is able to get out of that sailing deal. Sounds like Bert will be drunkin annoying with his friends and not commit to helping out sail. And right now is not a good time, he has two babies helping Aleyna. If this happens Bert you better pay big bucks to Riley and make it worth his time.
