    They're lovely!😊 We have a homing pigeon in our area who stopped here to rest from a long-distance flight, he's been on our market for a week now, he's the star, I feed him and give him water, the local vendors support him too😀 I contacted the owner - very nice man!😊 A girlfriend is waiting for that pigeon back home buy he needs to regain strength after the flight before coming home🕊️💨

    That’s an awesome idea with the truck shoot brother! As far as clipping the flights, it’s at your own discretion. Iv done it the last couple of years but my reasoning for doing it is most of my club does it and I’d hate to loose to them just over them doing something I should have done. With that being said my friend Jerry in the club is an old timer and doesn’t have the health to do too much with the the birds and he still wins all the time without clipping flights. So I don’t know how much it really helps and I hate loosing 35 days keeping them in while they re-grow their flights. So like I say it’s at your own discretion. And you couldn’t have asked for a better training toss! Those birds aren’t messing around brother. Your doing a great job! Good luck and god bless

    • @Rocky.Ridge.Pigeons
      @Rocky.Ridge.Pigeons  3 роки тому +1

      There is some great information. I really appreciate that brother. Losing five or six weeks of training really isn’t very appealing to me as well. I’m glad you like the truck bed idea. I have 60 birds and just needed something to simplify the training a little. I like listening to the old-timers too. I doubt I will clip the wings and pull the feathers. Just doesn’t seem like a logical thing anymore. I will say that I have just as many people saying to pull the feathers as not to pull them so that tells me a lot in itself. I hope everything is going well blessings loft take care and God bless

    You should just toss them in the morning as the races will be released in the AM. I wouldnt do anything with the flights, just train them out to 45 miles...jump them 3-4 miles at a time until you get to 15 or so then larger jumps and release at same place if they have any trouble, thats my advice and how i trained mine.

    Get them out to 10-12 miles before clipping 9 & 10. 5 days after clipping them, you'll need to pull them. Clipping alone doesn't start the molt it only assures that the quills are dry before pulling them so you aren't dealing with blood quills that can damage the wing. If you're going to do that you might as well pull a few of the center tail feathers (the deck) as well.
