It is very easy with the bus. You go to Südtiroler Platz, just in front of the Salzburg station and take the bus 150 to bad Ischl. The last Station you take another bus 541 to Gosaumühle and afterthen chance to 543 bus Hallstatt. Don't worry, the buses will tell you where to transfer.They are really good connected and just very nearby to each other. Very easy❤

HOWEVER, you need to check the ferry return time if you plan to take the ferry just like what i did. If i remember it right, i took the last ferry trip back to the train station around 4 pm. I came back to Salzburg around 6 pm.

I went for a holiday in Austria in 2019. I took a day tour from Salzburg, I think it was called Sound of Music tour which included a trip to Hallstat. We returned to Salzburg in the evening.

Not advisable to stay overnight at Hallstatt coz the accommodations were overpriced, unless you have big budget. Even their bunkbed hostel costs around 50 euro per night
