- Rusting on paper is a dyeing process where paper is dyed or stained with lovely rust colors. Colors can range from the palest yellows to oranges, browns, and through to greys and almost black. Create a collection of unique items for your mixed media art project!

Thanks for sharing this simple but beautiful technique 🎉
Also just wanted to add, that when you showed us your art journal, I L O V E D this little mini grids that you made. Really yummo! Thank you so very much Kelly!!
Oh thank you! I have my free grid journal course on my UA-cam channel if you'd like to check that out as well! 🥰
I have never seen this before how amazing! I’m going to start collecting rusty bit to use. Thanks so much for sharing this 🤗
So happy you enjoyed it! Its so fun to try out, you can use so many different papers, and even fabric too!
Rust envy.
Great tips, thank you!
You are so welcome!
This is fantastic, thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Kelly, these pieces really turned out amazing!! I usually do fabric instead of the papers with rust, but now I want to try the deli papers like you! Does it matter which side you put the waxy deli paper surface on?
The deli paper used is not that waxy- do not use Wax Paper!!- but just paper here. The wax will not allow the rust to flow through properly. Thick tissue paper works as well!! Have fun!
Thank you! Off to beg the guys I know for rusty bits!
😂 You are bound to get a few raised eyebrows when you are asking for rusted nuts and bolts, but we promise the odd looks are worth it in the end! 😉💖
In Australia I use baking paper.
Thats a fantastic idea!
👍👍👍💕💕💕🇩🇰
Awesome! Have you ever used this technique with fabrics? Of so, which fabrics? cotton, poly, silk?
Yes, we have done it with some muslin cloth before, we just laid the fabric over the rusted pieces and sprayed it with the vinegar solution. It worked wonderfully! Not sure how well it would take to different materials, but we certainly encourage playing with it and letting us know how it turns out!
Found it! Deli paper NOT grease or oil proof... Tyvm... 🙋
How well does this hold up over time?
Good question! I'm not sure, guess it could deteriorate so probably not best to use in art for sale.
Washi paper or mulberry paper
Yes! Those would work as well!
L💙ve! but trying to fig out where to find any rusty bits n bobs in apartment life! We have some pretty active free/giveaway local sites, think I'll put the word out... Spit! I'm in process of trying to have (much!) LESS stuff not more! 😝 🙆 have u noticed that u can use the rusty bits multiple times I'd hope? Prob not come 'clean' in one go?! tyvm... I think 🙋💐🙏 🙈
Perhaps you could check out Marketplace on FB? Or flea markets, thrift stores or even put the word out to mechanics/farms/etc or family/friends? You could definitely use them again! For vinegar to totally dissolve rust it would have to sit in a vinegar/salt mixture for days, and we only use a 25%-50% solution and you decide when its been sitting for long enough! Thank you so much for watching, hope you have fun exploring this project!🤗
Looking 4wd to, excited about thnx! 🙋💐🤗
Isn’t Deli paper, grease proof paper?
@@yesidelinney2616 it can be but u can get wo that ... coating or whatever, as near as i know...
