    Good vid! Especially for a first vid.
    What's funny is I thought he started off a bit stiff and then quickly loosened up but then I realized it was because his hands and forearms are off camera so only when he gets really animated do they enter into the picture. So I'd recommend a wider field of view or getting your hand motions on camera more often.
    The only other thing I'd recommend is analyzing Ricky methods his effectiveness is mostly a) he always sounds excited about the message and b) his manner is informal/personable like he's telling this exciting news to a friend. Good aspects to try to emulate.

    I don’t even travel that much. Maybe 2-3 times a year but I’ve used those lounges at every airport. I don’t dread the long layovers anymore! I’ve been able to use the dining credit and travel credit plus the Amex offers. All in all, for not travelling that much I’ve gotten way more value than the $799.

    I just finished my first year with an Amex Platinum and will definitely be renewing for the second year. I travel frequently and get the value of the fees from the lounge access alone. The travel insurance as well is excellent and I use the concierge at least once a month. Good card and it will definitely keep a slot in my wallet.

    I have AMEX Platinum and TD VIP. I think they're worth the annual cost. AMEX for lounge access and offers. I plan on using the Food and Travel credit soon. TD for better Aeroplan earnings and Insurance.

    Ricky, what I still can’t figure out is if the travel insurance is actually good.
    Right now I’m spending a few hundred a year at BCAA on their insurance. In the past they’ve covered a hospital stay in Japan over $2000, a new flight after I missed mine due to traffic between Vancouver and Seattle, that was like $1800 and most recently I had to buy some eye glasses and get an exam abroad, paid for to the tune of like $200. So I’m VERY satisfied as a customer.
    If I knew Amex would do the same, I could save that money and totally offset the annual fee. But I can’t seem to find anyone who can totally vouch for the Amex insurance.
    Even without the insurance I see it as $399 unlimited lounge access. I have star gold, but as a non-rev traveller priority pass is very valuable. The biggest beef is a lack of lounges at UA hubs. But at $400 that’s less than the PP membership would cost and as long as I use 20 lounge visits in a year I can pretty easily make that a saw off too.
    Am I trying too hard to justify this card? Maybe. But it’s the only card in my view that even tries to justify its hefty fee. The AC Amex at $599 doesn’t even come close imo.

    I have an appointment with a TD branch this coming week to apply for the TD VIP. The spend requirements is $10k in 6 months. I already have the AMEX Cobalt to pair it with. Let’s say I have a wedding coming up this September. Do you think it’s a good idea to get it, if approved? Or should I stick with TD Visa Infinite or Scotiabank Visa Passport?

      All canadian credit cards are a scam except amex. The only exception is for costco shopper get the rbc westjet worldelite.
      Another except is the Aeroplan Visa Infinite (from any bank, you can only get the welcome bonus from 1 bank, can't double dip)
      And even though ricky and his team love redeeming avios points I don't like rbc points and don't recommend them. But they are experts so they make it work.
      With your partner, with player 1 player 2 amex and visa infinite and westjet rbc world elite is all u need.
      As for high spend use, get an amex aeroplan top tier card. Or an amex business card. Your mileage may vary see what's the best current offer. Since it's once per lifetime

    • @lalalla1999
      @lalalla1999 6 місяців тому

    • @PrinceofTravel
      @PrinceofTravel  6 місяців тому

      For Marriott hotels, only platinum and higher statuses get you suite upgrades (subjected to availability and hotel discretion). Gold status isn't likely to move the needle.
      But Gold status for Hilton grants you F&B credits and even free breakfast outside of North America. So it is a very useful mid tier benefit.

    You left out another big problem with the Platinum card. The Amex lounges often have a waitlist. Last couple of trips, the lounge had a 30+ minute wait. Considering I only had a 1 hour connection, I only got to use the lounge for a couple of minutes. The priority pass lounge situation was even worse, not only were the lounges too busy, but they were not accepting priority pass customers. As well you can only get the sign up bonus once. So if you had the card some time in the pass, you are done getting the bonus points.

  • @down1plus2
    @down1plus2 5 місяців тому

    No, this coming from a platinum card holder. The point conversion suck and lounges are always overcrowded. The Capital One venture X is way better in my opinion.

    • @PrinceofTravel
      @PrinceofTravel  5 місяців тому +1

      For the conversion, don't forget that we in canada, we usually get C$1 per points, and each point we can convert 1:1 to Aeroplan and Avios. Even though in the US, it is also 1:1 to many airlines program, but their 1x is $1 USD, so even though you can concert 1:1 to many airlines, to acquire 1 points, say capital one points, you need to spend USD$1, generally speaking, (I'm aware the venture X is US$1=2 points but thats an exception rather than norm). So USD$1 = 1 points, it's really like C$1.33 to one points, effectively 1 point to 0.75.
      Hope the math gives you better perspective. Just know that we in the Canadiann market, we have huge Aeroplan and Avios advantage, due to C$1=1points=1 Airlines points.

    You just forgot to mention how is not just any type of credit card but pretty much a charge card since they advertise it as no pre set limit and they rather you pay in full every month or face up to 30% interest. Otherwise all the info was very valuable, great job TJ!!! For sure not a card for most people to consider under the current circumstances, even the Gold is not looking great anymore. They don't even offer no foreign fees.
    Their best card is the Cobalt for sure. The lounges access can be acquired through a different provider and you still pretty much set.
