Good vid! Especially for a first vid. What's funny is I thought he started off a bit stiff and then quickly loosened up but then I realized it was because his hands and forearms are off camera so only when he gets really animated do they enter into the picture. So I'd recommend a wider field of view or getting your hand motions on camera more often. The only other thing I'd recommend is analyzing Ricky methods his effectiveness is mostly a) he always sounds excited about the message and b) his manner is informal/personable like he's telling this exciting news to a friend. Good aspects to try to emulate.
I don’t even travel that much. Maybe 2-3 times a year but I’ve used those lounges at every airport. I don’t dread the long layovers anymore! I’ve been able to use the dining credit and travel credit plus the Amex offers. All in all, for not travelling that much I’ve gotten way more value than the $799.
I just finished my first year with an Amex Platinum and will definitely be renewing for the second year. I travel frequently and get the value of the fees from the lounge access alone. The travel insurance as well is excellent and I use the concierge at least once a month. Good card and it will definitely keep a slot in my wallet.
I have AMEX Platinum and TD VIP. I think they're worth the annual cost. AMEX for lounge access and offers. I plan on using the Food and Travel credit soon. TD for better Aeroplan earnings and Insurance.
TJ is great! I would like to see more if him in the future! One thing I noticed about TJ, besides him having a wealth of knowledge on the topic, is that he is jaaackeddddd!TJ, please share your shoulders workout routine with us!
Ricky, what I still can’t figure out is if the travel insurance is actually good. Right now I’m spending a few hundred a year at BCAA on their insurance. In the past they’ve covered a hospital stay in Japan over $2000, a new flight after I missed mine due to traffic between Vancouver and Seattle, that was like $1800 and most recently I had to buy some eye glasses and get an exam abroad, paid for to the tune of like $200. So I’m VERY satisfied as a customer. If I knew Amex would do the same, I could save that money and totally offset the annual fee. But I can’t seem to find anyone who can totally vouch for the Amex insurance. Even without the insurance I see it as $399 unlimited lounge access. I have star gold, but as a non-rev traveller priority pass is very valuable. The biggest beef is a lack of lounges at UA hubs. But at $400 that’s less than the PP membership would cost and as long as I use 20 lounge visits in a year I can pretty easily make that a saw off too. Am I trying too hard to justify this card? Maybe. But it’s the only card in my view that even tries to justify its hefty fee. The AC Amex at $599 doesn’t even come close imo.
If I already have a foreign issued platinum charge card, will I still be eligible for the sign up bonus for the Canadian version of the platinum charge card?
I agree buss platinum is useless but this video is about the personal Also biz plat is good for people who spend 100k a month etc on stuff that isn't a category in the personal amex Therfore it's a your mileage may vary card
we travel 3-4x a year, and each time have about 4-5 legs of flights, and not every flight is BC so we use amex to get into lounges, and given 2x adult per entry, its about 8-10x per trip, so overall it's still sort of working ok. plus the 200 dollar hotel credit.
Ur using and valuing the card wrong. But I am glad ur benefitting. Please research more usecases their blog explains better than this video. They didn't discuss alot of things Good luck❤
Their Trip Cancellation/Interruption insurance SCREWED ME!!! I charged a $14,000 Alaska cruise from Vancouver to Anchorage. We got covid halfway through. They denied our claim because the it was not a ROUND TRIP CRUISE. We made the mistake of not booking our airfare back to Vancouver on the same card.
Sorry to hear, that sounds like a terrible experience! But you need to be fair, they didnt screw you. They cover what you book with the card. And you didnt book the return with the card. Its unfortunate but its fair
I have an appointment with a TD branch this coming week to apply for the TD VIP. The spend requirements is $10k in 6 months. I already have the AMEX Cobalt to pair it with. Let’s say I have a wedding coming up this September. Do you think it’s a good idea to get it, if approved? Or should I stick with TD Visa Infinite or Scotiabank Visa Passport? Me and my Fiancè usually travel at least 2 times a year. 1 domestically and 1 international.
All canadian credit cards are a scam except amex. The only exception is for costco shopper get the rbc westjet worldelite. Another except is the Aeroplan Visa Infinite (from any bank, you can only get the welcome bonus from 1 bank, can't double dip) And even though ricky and his team love redeeming avios points I don't like rbc points and don't recommend them. But they are experts so they make it work. With your partner, with player 1 player 2 amex and visa infinite and westjet rbc world elite is all u need. As for high spend use, get an amex aeroplan top tier card. Or an amex business card. Your mileage may vary see what's the best current offer. Since it's once per lifetime Have a beautiful wedding congratulations ❤ all I ask if u found some of this helpful send me some good vibes or wishes or prayers lol whatever u believe in

Amex US tend to increase their major cards' annual fee every 4-5 years. So the Platinum will still have a few more years before its fee increases. You are good for now :)
For Marriott hotels, only platinum and higher statuses get you suite upgrades (subjected to availability and hotel discretion). Gold status isn't likely to move the needle. But Gold status for Hilton grants you F&B credits and even free breakfast outside of North America. So it is a very useful mid tier benefit.
Not worth it in my humble opinion, you can get lounge access for $40 per person and still not pay $799, there are better cards out there however, the metal card kind of makes you feel special 😆that is where it ends.
You left out another big problem with the Platinum card. The Amex lounges often have a waitlist. Last couple of trips, the lounge had a 30+ minute wait. Considering I only had a 1 hour connection, I only got to use the lounge for a couple of minutes. The priority pass lounge situation was even worse, not only were the lounges too busy, but they were not accepting priority pass customers. As well you can only get the sign up bonus once. So if you had the card some time in the pass, you are done getting the bonus points.
No, this coming from a platinum card holder. The point conversion suck and lounges are always overcrowded. The Capital One venture X is way better in my opinion.
For the conversion, don't forget that we in canada, we usually get C$1 per points, and each point we can convert 1:1 to Aeroplan and Avios. Even though in the US, it is also 1:1 to many airlines program, but their 1x is $1 USD, so even though you can concert 1:1 to many airlines, to acquire 1 points, say capital one points, you need to spend USD$1, generally speaking, (I'm aware the venture X is US$1=2 points but thats an exception rather than norm). So USD$1 = 1 points, it's really like C$1.33 to one points, effectively 1 point to 0.75. Hope the math gives you better perspective. Just know that we in the Canadiann market, we have huge Aeroplan and Avios advantage, due to C$1=1points=1 Airlines points.
You just forgot to mention how is not just any type of credit card but pretty much a charge card since they advertise it as no pre set limit and they rather you pay in full every month or face up to 30% interest. Otherwise all the info was very valuable, great job TJ!!! For sure not a card for most people to consider under the current circumstances, even the Gold is not looking great anymore. They don't even offer no foreign fees. Their best card is the Cobalt for sure. The lounges access can be acquired through a different provider and you still pretty much set. Please release a new updated video of Cathay MasterCard when possible, cheers!!

Incorrect but to you sure. Your mileage may vary duh. Thus your opinion is misleading to others who are newbies Ah well ur entitled to ur opinion Feel free to go back to the scam canadian bank credit cards they will take ur money 😂
Each authorized user can also get the cardholder the full suite of benefits, such as hotel status and lounge access. And that would cost more than $100 for sure.
Amex, i know u follow the prince and his team. Remove foreign currency fees. And either lower the annual fee (which u never will ik) or offer more. The card is overpriced with little new value vs b4 the hike.
It's called, obvious, expected, and well known. If you or others don't know your loss too bad. Don't get the card. And let the other canadian banks rob you with their useless cards and points Ciao ciao
The churnnig game is now only for those with deep pockets. Gone are the days with $1000 MSR with decent points. Unless you are traveling for work or have money to burn, sometimes it might be better just to keep your money.
Nowadays many MSR is between $3000 to $6000. Consider paying rent with it. Our partner Chexy filled in the market gap left by Getdigs and have a very reasonable price to help one meeting the MSR

The answer would depend on how often does the cardholder travel.... Since the advantage of that card are the lounges and travel points.
True but other factors too. It's a your mileage may vary card

Hey TJ great first video. Relax. Don’t worry about being perfect. Great job eliminating any “ums” or other awkward words.
Tj is a legend, good nice pep talk❤
Nice work, TJ
Sucks losing the 3x on dining but I won't be cancelling my platinum card.
If I already have a foreign issued platinum charge card, will I still be eligible for the sign up bonus for the Canadian version of the platinum charge card?
Yes. Non-Canadian AMEX cards will not have an impact on your eligibility for Canadian sign-up offer.
up to 100,000 points now and 40,000 on the second year, thinking about pulling the trigger. What would you recommend?
It’s the best offer on AMEX Platinum cards we’ve seen in a long time. It’s probably a good time to get the card if you’ve been considering it.

Very happy to see other members of the crew make their way in front of the camera! Good job TJ, keep up with the good work!

Funny how actually using the card for purchases to earn points is not considered ’premium’ at all. The earn rate is subpar compared to alternatives.
In the first three months of having this card it saved me $1,800 with a direct booking.
Nice job, TJ!
It is not worth it in canada when you compare it to the offers you get in the US.
1000% cause canada is greedy lol

Now that they've "revamped" the gold when can we expect the platinum Annual Fee to go up?
Are you referring to the US Gold revamp? The US Platinum already had its fee increased recently, as did the Canadian Platinum.
@@PrinceofTravel I was referring to US Gold and US Plat (Charles Schwab specifically) So you figure we got a few more years of $695?
Amex US tend to increase their major cards' annual fee every 4-5 years. So the Platinum will still have a few more years before its fee increases. You are good for now :)

hotel status is overrated, in my opinion. I have never received an upgrade staying in a Marriott (despite gold and booked directly on Marriott).
