I became a big fan of Leclerc because of what he he did in 2018/2019. This season he has been quite unlucky, but he is still ahead of the very in-form Sainz. I think Norris has made the biggest step as a driver this season compared to the rest of the midfield drivers, but Leclerc has shown this season that when he is comfortable in the car no-one can match him (e.g. USA). I'm looking forward to the future, where hopefully we will be seeing Leclerc, Verstappen, Russell and Norris fighting it out for the championship.

We’re gonna look back at this Ferrari situation from 2018-2020 for a really long time. It really is unbelievable how quickly things turned from being Seb’s team, to Seb being pushed out and disrespected by Ferrari in just 2 years. All because Leclerc was developing way faster than anyone thought he would
I think 'disrespecting' is a bit harsh. Fact is, Seb was just seriously dropping the ball week in and week out. Along comes a kid with just one year's worth of experience, and completely outperforms Seb. If you were heading up Ferrari, what would you do? Ferrari even talked up Seb's no. 1 status in the team before 2019 started before it became apparent that it was just silly to keep pretending that was the case.
@@terkmadugga if I were Ferrari I wouldn’t fire him before the 2020 season even started and pretend as if it was them mutually parting ways. That whole season became a wash for Vettel because of it. Rather than trying to help Sebastian through the transition of adding Charles to the team they played favorites and Seb crumbled under the pressure of working in that environment, and I don’t blame him. Edit: I also think a lot of people really over exaggerate how badly Charles beat Seb in 2019. Yes, he was better than him, but it wasn’t as big of a difference as Seb beating Kimi the previous year
@@terkmadugga I agree fully with everyone I just think when people say “disrespect” from Ferrari they mean the way Ferrari handled the entire situation, lying to the public about contract talks, the jabs at seb (this is why he was so petty about it) and just overall not seeming to care throughout the season for both drivers in terms of strategy and decision making. despite all this he still had the respect for Ferrari and sang them a whole farewell song.
@@cody95 youve got to remember, the start of 2020 was delayed because of covid, and it was probably better for Vettel in that he had the whole of the season to get his AM seat. Imagine if Ferrari told him they wouldn't extend his contract towards the end of the season - vettel might very well have retired. Fact is, Ferrari looked like the bad guys, but they did exactly what any rational team would do, and look to the future. Vettel really was exceptionally poor in 2019. I'm not just talking about the lack of pace, but the silly rookie spins is not what you'd expect to be paying a 4x world champion to do. It was probably better for both parties to be honest. Regarding 2019, I really don't think people exaggerate Leclerc's performances Vs Vettel. Vettel definitely had strong drives, but I think his highs weren't as high as leclerc, and leclerc made far fewer mistakes. Toward the end of 2018, Kimi was arguably the stronger driver once it was announced he was leaving the team.
@nameless agreed as seb being my favorite driver. he does have this weird mindset where he always thinks he's the #1 even when he isn't. but i do get where he is coming from in ferrari, considering he was trying to bring them to the top and such, and yeah the errors were beyond unacceptable for someone like him. i do believe it has to do with the newer hybrid cars as he didn't do these mistakes in the v8 era but who knows? still shouldn't happen. and yeah i can agree it goes both ways.

I didn't realize there was so much drama over LEC replacing Kimi. I was just happy once they announced him cause how old is Kimi? It's the logical decision, you have to secure your future and at the end of LEC's gp2 season, l knew I wanted him in Ferrari. What LEC did at Abu Dhabi was amazing, but what impressed me even more was what he did at Baku. His dad had just died, not even time to grief and he won that race... That was on another level. I was so emotionally moved by that performance. He will be world champion
Unpopular opinion but in terms of natural talent Leclerc is on the same level as both Hamilton and Verstappen. He’s had generally tougher team mates than Verstappen has and has been consistently beating them. Also a lot more level headed
This is a late reply and Danni Ric is leaving F1 by all accounts as Norris has done a number on him but Max took 2 1/2 years before he started to manage to beat Danni on a regular basis. So Max hasnt had it all his own way which was implied by your comment. Also Marko said the only drivers on the same level of talent as Max was Hamilton and Norris
He's been my favorite driver since F2. I remember watching that season I was always looking at the timing tower looking where Charles was and watching his times. That end of the season was absolutely insane, my favorite moment was in Brazil when he was gonna get knocked out in Q2 and it started raining at the end. 12th would've been very good anyway for a Sauber but he tried again and magically found time on a dampening track on slicks and somehow got into Q3. Then the next race at Abu Dhabi he couldn't wait to start fighting with the big boys so he got a great start and was actually keeping one of them behind. Then two races later in Bahrain, now at Ferrari, would've dominated his first F1 victory if not for a mechanical issue that dropped him to third. More wins and poles the Vettel in his first year at Ferrari showed signing him was no mistake, and I can't wait to see him in a title fight if Ferrari can find something in the new regs
@Josiah Petz how do you like the year so far? With a decent enough car, Charles is incredible (even more so, accounting for Red Bull's raw top speeds).
Anyone here after the abysmal run of race strategies and mistakes by Ferrari and Charles? And the season basically being over with Mercedes soon to be overtaking Ferrari and max running away with it
Time proved that Leclerc's move to Ferrari was the right decision. He was ahead of Vettel and carried the Ferrari in those times when Seb are no more in his prime. Now, april 2022, he's leading the championship and Ferrari too. If he'll be the champion, I don't know, but he deserves that and I wish to see him winning the F1 championship.
Except Leclerc didn't waltz into one of the top two teams on the grid, as Hamilton did. Charles as a rookie had to grind away in a car that was stuck well down the midfield - BIG difference.
I started to watch F1 again in 2018 because of Leclerc. I saw a few races in the beginning of the season because I was excited to see Alfa Romeo back in F1 (even if it’s a Sauber) so after Baku I was like OMG that Charles is just incredible ! I follow him since then and now 4 years later he has finally a Ferrari to show all his talent at the front ! Incredible driver.
5:13 I think it's worth mentioning that the 2017 Sauber C36 was using an old engine from 2016 due to the chassis mounting not fitting to the redesigned Ferrari engines for 2017
@@Fred_the_1996 The reason the C36 was slow was because they were using an interim engine, the car was designed around the 2016 engine coz Ferrari said they were just gonna upgrade the 2016 engine for 2017 but Ferrari ditched that idea the last minute and made a new engine from the ground up, Sauber was left in a dud because the Ferrari 062 engine didn't fit and they can't redesign the chassis because they didn't have enough time that year, therefore they were left running a slighlty underpowered engine for 2017, who knows how fast Sauber could've been if the car was running the same 2017 Ferrari engine that season
I feel like charles is the most underrated driver on the current grid. Sounds crazy i know but there are peopel that rate sainz, norris russel and even gasly over him.
Sainz is getting close but leclerc has more talent. Russel can prove himself next year and seems very fast. I think max, leclerc and russel are the biggest pure talents followed by sainz en norris. Then Gasly . But in terms of speed atm the nr 1. Obviously is max. Then russel, leclerc russel, gasly and sainz. Leclerc shouldve destroyed sainz in his rookie ferarri season but he didn't.
What? I thought most people agreed that Charles and Max are basically the most talented drivers on the grid by far. Sure Sainz, Norris and Russell are A tier but those two for me are just above the rest. They can pull out something magical every once in a while which the others don’t.
This man, give him the car and he’ll deliver. pace is at Max/Lewis levels in a lot of cases, he’s like 90% there. Just needs to be kinder to himself and he’ll be a happier, faster driver.
In 2018, I wasn’t into F1 and seeing how good of a year he had and what he accomplished in his rookie year with a car that’s worse than alpine and aston martin this year(definitely don’t see them finishing P6/7 consistently) MAN CHARLES IS A BEAST
This guy proved right from the start that he is a champion in waiting. I am praying that Ferrari give Leclerc a car that is good enough to compete for the world championship. Cos Leclerc is pretty damn good!
Leclercs F1 career is filled with being underestimated. At first at Sauber. Then at Ferrari. Then I remember when I pointed out on reddit that he was pretty close to Vettel in his first season and would outperform him the following season, I got downvoted into oblivion. And after 2021 people keep saying how Sainz can keep up. If Ferrari stays ahead, this will be his year to win the championship.
So great to see an episode about my favorite driver! We so rarely see them on UA-cam. Did not know about that signing drama behind the scenes after the death of the Ferrari chief. I did know he swept the floor with Ericsson but not to the extent of the thrashing !
Leclerc's progression up to this point feels like someone playing career mode in the F1 video game. Only he's doing it in real life against some of world's best drivers instead of an AI.
Leclerc is for me the best driver right now alongside Max. Maybe Russel can be in the mix as well, his Mercedes drive in Sahkir 2020 was amazing given the circumstances so that cleared my doubts if he could perform in a top car. Leclerc for me however has one thing over anyone. Qualifying performance. I don't think even Max is faster than him over 1 lap. I also can't really rate him for his 2020 season given Seb's circumstances, but I can rate him for 2019, and he proved he was up there with a world champion.

It was an impressive rookie season. He's a fast learner, which is a great personality trait he uses to his advantage even today. What a lot of people forget is that Sauber finished 2018 with the 4th fastest car. Had there been 5 or 6 more races there's no telling what Charles could have done. @JOAKIM JEPPSSON Haven't seen Alonso in a championship challenging car since 2012, but we know he's always been getting the most out of his car. I think him and Ocon have been outperforming that Alpine this year
Honestly I think Charles Leclerc should’ve made his debut with Ferrari straight away in 2018 (easy to say in hindsight lol). The season he’d had in F2 the year before (dominated the championship as a rookie), combined with the his previous achievements in my opinion would’ve justified Ferrari gambling on putting him in one of their cars in 2018. In terms of natural talent I think Leclerc is top 3 on the grid, if Ferrari can get to Mercedes and RB’s level next year he’ll be a title contender for sure.
Ferrari took a big risk getting Leclerc up to Ferrari. Räikkönen was doing very well and Ferrari had hamony between the drivers. Ferrari had the "problem" they had 3 very good drivers and decided to take the riskier option and it was right. He was in his first Ferrari-season on Vettel´s pace (It´s hard to compare 2020 as already before the season Ferrari announced that Vettel wouldn´t drive for them in 2021.) and surely improved since then. I think, at the time Leclerc is one of the three fastest drivers in F1.
Leclerc was a beast since his rookie season, just hope Ferrari give him a championship competitive car sooner rather than later. Also a good reminder how good the last Kimi season for Ferrari was. 12 podiums in 21 races and finished every race he did not DNF in the top 6. Also that pole in Monza.
No he’s not. Leclerc has natural speed but Max is flawless and knows when to be ruthless. He’s won every race he finished so far. Leclerc is a generational talent but a driver like Max will be considered to be top of the best drivers of the century.

Agree.. Great bunch of young drivers - Max, Charles, Lando and George. All in different teams.

Leclerc being a equivalent to Max is a underrated driver, he just never got the car good enough .
BTW : He is always so sweet whenever u see him on internet or tv
Max is a beast especially in race day .The question is even if they have a winning championships car will they win? ferrari startegists should stel up
He had the second fastest car in 2019.
@@hoya1178 and he got 7 poles
@@hoya1178 not really, it was kind of back and forth. It was 3rd best in some races, and other’s it was the best, but Leclerc was so unlucky that season
@@hoya1178 That car was only able to fight red bull on high downforce tracks. And many of his wins were lost because of bad luck, or team strategy f*ckups. He still got a lot of podiums, and probably couldve finished 3rd in 2019 if it werent for the bad luck and that Crash with Vettel in brazil
Charles definitely deserves a chance to fight for the title in 2022.
I enjoyed those Leclerc - Alonso fights in 2018 throughout the season so much. Bit like seeing Russell and Alonso but even more often

Max, Leclerc, Norris, Russell, Gasly and Schumacher. What a bright future F1 has, it is incredible. And the best part is, cars will be creating less dirty air so next year we may see magnificent racing between these drivers.
In 2022 the cars will have a tighter difference of performance, so everyone will fight more equaly

No
Watching this while Leclerc has a chance for the world title right now. My lord this guy is fast 💨.
Only on saturdays though.
@@Leonhavenify ouch...
F2 Baku was pretty special too. Along with his fight w/ Albon in Abu Dabhi.
@Josiah Petz how do you like the year so far? With a decent enough car, Charles is incredible (even more so, accounting for Red Bull's raw top speeds).
@@JeFF19AquiLeSs yep I'm loving this year
Anyone after his phenomenal performance at the 2022 Australian GP where he won his first Grand Chelem and is 34 points away in the lead?
Anyone here after the abysmal run of race strategies and mistakes by Ferrari and Charles? And the season basically being over with Mercedes soon to be overtaking Ferrari and max running away with it
@@OveranalyzingEverything yeah ferrari botched it its unbelievable, Anyone here after the team forgot sainz's fourth tire?
He has that driving style you just can't stop watching. By far my favorite driver on and off track, absolute unit.
Best rookie season for me since Lewis's. Loved this video Aldas!
5:13 I think it's worth mentioning that the 2017 Sauber C36 was using an old engine from 2016 due to the chassis mounting not fitting to the redesigned Ferrari engines for 2017
Lmao what
Enjeniring
All of them wrong and norris being the most overhyped driver ever
Anyone in the number 1 Ferrari seat isn't underrated by any means
Well you were right, this season he's been unstoppable, Leclerc with proper car is a damn monster.
What he did in 2020's Ferrari was amazing too!
7:01 Charles to merc, ohh what could have been, but still he became a legend in the Ferrari team. So win/win.
I really, really, hope Ferrari gives him and Sainz a proper car for next season to fight for victories! Both of them deserve it.
This video sums up pretty much why Leclerc should get the championship this year.
I'll come back for this.
O.M.G.
I really hope there's gonna be a sequel of this video. Maybe for his first season. That's could be awesome
He did get 7 poles that year but 2 wins Ultimately what u need the most is racecraft thats where i think max edges him for eg Austria 2019, but i think sharl is now better at wheel to wheel racing compared to past

Baku was what caught my attention, and i was excited when they announced his promotion for 2019,. but good god his Q2 run at Interlagos on softs in the rain was an absolute jaw dropper and the moment I was 100% sold.
Bahrain 2019 was agonizing to watch. Not even just for tifosi, but almost everyone because of how utterly dominant he was in just his second race for the Scuderia. Austria was hard to swallow. Spa was hard to enjoy… but Monza… my fkn god was Monza the moment I knew I was helplessly addicted to this sport and would be for the rest of my life. The atmosphere that day was like what I can only compare to when I attended the NY Giants super bowl parades in 07 & 11.

Great video. Really makes you understand why Ferrari has the best driver line up going into 2022 and how impressive Carlos Sainz's work in his first year at The Scuderia is.👍🏻
It was an impressive rookie season. He's a fast learner, which is a great personality trait he uses to his advantage even today. Leclerc is already on Max' level, races like turkey last season or even in the states last weekend, shows his absolutely insane raw speed as he ridicules those around him. Capable of running on the limit with some of the most impressive quali laps I've seen, and getting stronger and stronger in terms of race management. Future world champion FOR SURE
I have been into F1 for about 2 years now (grew up a NASCAR fan). Charles brought me to the sport, the kid has the mentality of driver 10 years older!
Charles, Norris, Russell, and Verstappen are the future of the sport. 2019 Charles gave a brilliant fight to Seb, even with questionable team orders. Very excited for the coming years and what these young drivers will provide us.

What a lot of people forget is that Sauber finished 2018 with the 4th fastest car. Had there been 5 or 6 more races there's no telling what Charles could have done. I think he easily would have finished Top 10 in the Championship and Sauber would have probably gotten to 6th in the constructors too. Charles put it all it out there and did everything he had to do.

Rookie to Ferrari F1 in 3 years? Extraordinary.
This has aged even better

Leclerc was a beast since his rookie season, just hope Ferrari give him a championship competitive car sooner rather than later. Also a good reminder how good the last Kimi season for Ferrari was. 12 podiums in 21 races and finished every race he did not DNF in the top 6. Also that pole in Monza.

Leclerc is a monster
Ferrari dosen't make mistakes when it comes to signing drivers they always nail it .

Leclerc is better than Verstappen and this season he can finally prove it
No he’s not. Leclerc has natural speed but Max is flawless and knows when to be ruthless. He’s won every race he finished so far. Leclerc is a generational talent but a driver like Max will be considered to be top of the best drivers of the century.
