The three astronauts at the beginning... they're the first ever Fireteam :) :)
Holy shit dude you're right
Do you think the Traveler gave us 3 classes, because when it first encountered humans, it found 3 individuals? :O
Could you imagine the lore behind the first three Guardians?
You have to, Bungie won't tell you anything, ever. *returns to grinding Calcified fragments*
They're not Guardians. They're the first people who met the Traveler. Also there's like an interview with these people in the Grimoire.
"What should our astronauts need when they go to Mars?"
"M16's"
"But how would tha-"
"Trust me it'll make sense later"

Welcome back, 5 years later, to the latest episode of “Timeless UA-cam Recommendations”
i am not complaining about youtube recommendation this time.
UA-cam recommendations have taken me to some strange places
Nostalgia
I came here out of my own will
Best game ever
I love how the first people on mars brought nothing but suits and an M4A1 lmao
Ross // Rossilaz58 why not?
The music gives me chills to the good ol times
Should be an Ak, they can whistand even Mars sands.
Unless they knew and were going there to confront what they thought were aliens, why bring the M4? As far as we know, Mars is lifeless. What is there to shoot?
M4A1 bringing freedom to the Sol system before there were Guardians. Also the first gun to go to another planet.
I remember waking up Christmas morning and playing this 😢 memories
Thank y’all for the likes :)) means a lot this was truly a amazing game
v1ntent xll I still remember where I was sitting while watching this cinematic for the first time
I remember getting this and playing it on my big TV with max volume, so excited to play the game. I had played the beta, but actually playing the full game and opening the collectors edition is a memory I’ll never forget
same this game was amazing
Eli H are you serious? The game was garbage at launch
NPC #76 i never said that it was amazing at launch buddy did you even read my comment
The music just invokes mystery and mysticism. I love it.
Ive had it stuck in my head all day. Haha.
I remember from the 1977 animated Hobbit movie, when the dwarves were singing "Misty Mountains", Gandalf and Bilbo were discussing the magic in the music and how it moved through them. I had the feeling when the title came up. No other game has done that to me.
SgtR3ynolds The first three Halo games definitely did, back when Marty was the composer.
As good as Marty was and is, I didn't get that "magic" feeling from it.
People criticize Destiny's story at launch, but I actually liked it a lot better. I liked it because the story was more of a mystery and wasn't clear to where you knew and then grew board of it. I liked it when you were a guardian starting off in the universe of Destiny and everything was a mystery to you. Those were the times. It wasn't just "get to the point". It kept you thinking. That also made the lore better, because you had to dive deep to learn more and more about the story.
At least the Darkness is still a mystery to us, considering we don't know much about it. I much look forward to the darkness now. It's boring when you know everything about the Fallen, the Hive, the Vex, the Cabal, and the Taken.
I remember the first time playing Destiny 1 and I was on Mars, as soon as the door opened up and I saw the cabal, I was like, "wow, this fuckers are big". Especially with the Cabal theme in the background. Good times.
I miss that feeling so much. All gone to waste I only hope one day this game gets the love it should deserve and developed properly.
Astronaut from America
Cosmonauts from Russia
Taikonauts from China

What an epic intro. The music is also fucking phenomenal. A shame they fired Marty, those damn morons.
Ducklowguy Films Destiny 1 music gave you Nostalgia. The music from D1 was legendary. It's a shame the music isn't as good in Destiny 2. D1s music felt more majestic and alive to whereas D2s music just feels like regular old boring action music that most games have.

You got it right.
Damn it, this game had such potential, I wish they'd have stuck with this overall aesthetic. The new style isn't anything like this.
I agree, I really miss D1's gritty, post-apocalyptic vibes. Made the world feel a lot more mysterious and expansive, enemies and encounters more dangerous, everything felt more magical.
Which is ironic since D2 feels more like a fantasy space game than a dystopian sci-fi future rn.
@@Aurie3 you hit the nail right on the head. I feel like destiny 1 reminds me of a post apocalyptic survival movie. Almost like interstellar. I also like the pioneering elements of it
I get goosebumps and shake my head at the same time lol.
Infinite I know right? This opening sets the stage for an incredible story that never shows up.
Sometimes when i get goose bumps i shiver so badly my head jerks all the way left then all the way right
For everyone wondering “Why are they carrying rifles on Mars?” They found a massive piece of alien technology they know nothing about, don’t you think they might take caution with it?
Oh I thought they just stumbled upon it here when going to Mars anyway, this scene being the very first time they see this massive white ball during exploring Mars
@@atomic3968 That’s exactly what I had thought too for a long time. I wish we could have seen some cinematics from the Golden Age for storytelling, it would be so cool
@@atomic3968I originally thought this. But you do gotta think. These three astronauts lived near to the time that we live in now. So space agencies would have detected the traveller via sattellites and rovers that may possibly be on mars already.
If you take that into account then it makes sense as to why the astronauts were armed.
But just an m16? What the fuck is a lightless gun gonna do to it? Bring a rpg at least, sure it still won't do much, but hey at least it better then that
@@brandon0118 A valid thought. Maybe rocket launchers would be too risky to bring on a spaceship? I imagine guns would be risky too. Who knows
Say what you want about Destiny (personally I love it), but it's really hard to deny the beauty of this cutscene and obviously the game itself. Especially parts like 0:50-1:00. Gorgeous!
Or 1:30 to 1:55
you had me till you said "the game itself". The game didn't live up to this cut scene
@@pshomeboy2191 he meant it looks really pretty, which it does

Dawson McBride why it was a horrible launch and the game was doing not so well at all
The bit about the technological advancement of human life always stuck to me. Such a beautiful introduction.
Shame, shame on them for not incorporating more music into the game like that starting at 2:07. Nothing has been that moving to me in a game ever in forever.. It hurts, it's so good.
My brother under the Traveller. Have you listened to the OSTs?
I kind of want to know more about those 3 astronauts
what if in a past life.. our guardian was one of them?
+Lord Hambone I think those astronauts represent the very first guardians that ever were.
+Praxographist you mean Titan, Hunter, and warlock?
LQuavius Cotton Yes. The American expedition leader is the Titan (with a name like Jacob Hardy, i mean, c'mon), the Chinese guy the Warlock (because Big Trouble in Little China), and the Russian lady the Hunter (because, let's face it, all sexy russian women in fiction are assassins).
+Praxographist The Russian was a woman?
See, this is what 343i is failing to remember with their MJOLNIR armour... you shouldn't be able to tell the difference between man and woman in a one ton power armour.
Imagine being able to play this as the first mission in destiny 3.
Dude imagine if they just said hey we are remaking d1 and 2 but you lose all of your shit from d2 but you start from d1 and go though everything d1 had and then d2 I’d be down in a heartbeat all the old weapons armor and exotics
@@Iain-lh7mr they could match up the story so after the final mission of rise of iron in destiny 1, as your flying back to the tower that’s when the cabal attack it. Also I think it would be really cool if they made this the first mission, showing you basic movement control and weapon control, with the rifle (also maybe the gun the guy is holding is a khvostov 🤔)
@@bradless8418 yo this would be amazing do the first mission with all the D1 weapons and armor that would be perfect
The soundtrack for this game is wonderful. I never get tired of listening
The Destiny 1 composers clearly put a lot of love and care into crafting the game's soundtrack. It is a masterpiece that deserves to be appreciated by many people
I definitely appreciate!
Grimoire score card from one of the astronauts states that he didn't like having rifles brought, but our governments who pooled together for the mission demanded it.

It was supposed to be 4. The fourth one was mysteriously killed by the third for getting too close to a secret experimental AI one of them had developed.

This made me tear up. I haven't watched this cutscene since when I got the game in 2015. Such a fantastic introduction, and what a wonderful score!
This still gives me chills. All these years later. They said in the beginning that they intended to create their own "StarWars" or "LOTR". 7 years later I believe they succeeded.
with the spaceforce now naming the members guardians this gives me chills down to my fucking soul WE'RE IN THE DESTINY TIMELINE
I like the part where he says “We stared out at the galaxy and knew it was our destiny to walk among the light of other stars...” because it’s like it’s our job now to make sure that destiny can still be fulfilled,
So much promise, so much potential, I've never seen a larger opportunity wasted like this.
We had no idea what an adventure we were in for at this point
I’d give away almost anything to restart my life back at 2014 again with my homies and Destiny 1 lot of memories back then
Can relate.
Literally in tears this game had the potential to be the greatest game ever created
Brandon Howard facts
YEEESSSSSS.
for most of it's lifetime it really was, at least for me
if Bungie ever goes back to these graphics I would really appreciate it, I also wouldn't mind watching any movie they put out if the music and visuals are as beautiful as they were here
It was pretty damn good by the time Taken King rolled out. I confidently place D1 somewhere on my list of top ten all-time favorite video games.
This scene still gives me chills. I played year 1 Destiny when I was 13 and damn man, this bring so many memories to me... the people I've met through the years, the max 30 light level, the Leviathan raid... I'm no longer playing Destiny 2 but I really miss this. Hope y'all alright my fellow Guardians 🫡🙌
The music in Destiny 1 really was something else. So much mysticism and majesty.
I wonder if the speaker was one of those first three people to discover the traveller. Seen as he knows soo much about it and the golden age haha
Considering a lot of knowledge of the Fall was lost, its likes most humans from that era are now dead.
Well considering ghosts resurrect the long dead it's not like that couldn't be a possibility
Tenthyr Ana bray is a golden age scientist
The fact he says "We called it the Traveller" right after the scene with the three astronauts looking at it suggests to me he's part of a group that named it, I suppose it's just as possible he's referring to the human race generally through saying "we" though, or even just the Guardians after the collapse.
No he wasnt read the grimoire on the astronauts
Why did this just resurface I am actually going to cry
No matter what state the game is in this opening title is always so amazing.
5 years ago we became guardians of the last city on earth.
I miss the old Destiny. The gameplay was new, simple, fluid, and it worked. I would spend hours after school cashing in daily bounties, jumping from planet to planet grinding patrols and leveling up my supers, while sipping an ice cold Mtn Dew. The story (plus Taken King) were awesome, and the fanbase was cool too. New Destiny lacks that old charm; but, that might just be the nostalgia talking.
And after pushing back all the darkness I could for countless hours, I would return to the Tower, in the shine of the moon, and gase up at the Traveller as Ghosts zipped by, starships made port and left again, and fellow guardians walked about playing with the purple ball or trying to climb the flags. It was the best part.
It's not just nostalgia, it's something tangible but idk what. I felt it from the first week after launch in D2
2:06 - 2:52 that music is amazing.
Do joke
Gives me goosebumps everytime and the nostalgic music, this is the golden age of Destiny 💯🥰
Looking back at this scene after the Lightfall event ended today with similar cutscene before Beyond Light dropped.
Fuck why couldn't it live up to this cutscene. I love destiny but I want the full version they originally planned. Not this chopped up version
Who cares it's a good game
because the story got gutted only a few months before release due to staff changes.
also Rise of Iron isn't even going to have as much content as Taken King because a skeleton crew is making it. Most of Bungie have been working on a true sequel for a long time now.
If Destiny 2 fails, they have no excuses left and hopefully they suffer for it.
Rise of Iron won't be as big as TTK because TTK did a lot of big changes to how the game is played. Rise of Iron is building on that, for everbody that was pissed at the 'story telling' I think Rise of Iron will show where they plan on taking D2. Polygon put it best with "Destiny was a guess, TTK was a refinement, and Rise of Iron is a statement."
But yeah, if they fuck up D2 that hard, especially after delaying it for a year(which is why ROI exists), I can't even feel bad for them.
Technically we are playing a very expensive Beta.
So true, I have high hopes for destiny 2, the reason is because ps3 and xbox360 are being left in the dust and they no longer have to cater the game to being able to run on both old gen and current gen.
This popped up in my recommendations and I'm not mad. Brings back the good days
Crazy coming back to these old d1 things knowing what we know now. It was all the witness, all of it, and savathun, nezarac, rhulk. Never would’ve thought it was all this big when I was 11 playing this game, knowing what I know now 8 years later
this kind of makes me sad. today, i play destiny regularly. but back when this came out i played it and i didnt think much of it and just got bored of the game. i regret that decision because i missed so many seasons and so many raids and content... all because the game was boring to me. even though i did miss out on... pretty much everything up until season of the hunt, which was right after the sunset event and beyond light and... stasis... i did learn one thing: to never take things for granted and dont miss your opportunity to experience something. I think the first thing i saw was cayde-6, an exo. my first ever character on destiny 1 was a hunter exo which said something about me. picking the coolest stuff over other things, like a warlock (im a warlock main).
This cutscene made me love space travel. In 5 years I dream to work in space x that will help humans reach mars
Man, I remember the feeling of mysteriousness when playing destiny. I remember getting random loot in year 1 and getting excited for no reason because I didn't know what it was xD, everything was so new with destiny at the time and it felt like you literally had the world to explore and you would never know what came next
Man... coming back to this video after so long never seems to dampen the way I feel about it. This was one of the first games I ever played on Xbox One and I remember thinking that this was the coolest intro scene of all time, I still think it's up there. It's been a while since I played Destiny, maybe it's time for a revisit.
....... Such a bittersweet memory this is. On one hand it prepared me for the best experience in video games I ever had, but it was also an omen for the worse.
Wow, I really miss the original music.
It's 2019 and to this day this is my favorite opening cinematic
Man I only started playing Destiny 2 in 2019 but I can only imagine how exciting this must have felt
The beginning of an amazing era for FPS shooters. Say what you will about Destiny and D2, one thing is for sure-both sport the best FPS shooter mechanics around.
Damn. Back after that event and it's so cool to see the similarities.
A good 5 years later this is still my favourite game of all time
"It was the end of everything. But it was also a beginning."
Such true words, considering that game changed my life forever.
Oh this is so perfect, i wanna to cry right now... it's been 3 years...
Marty never ceases to amaze me with his music. Especially when at 1:40 when the music picked up. Goosebumps. Probably the most powerful piece of music I've heard in a long time.
I like how everyone is saying this was the best game in their memory but when it first came out it was called trash
The player base was poppin back in the day because the game was so new and unique.
I loved it when it came out, then hated it after so much DLC
Honestly I always loved the first game. I recognize its flaws but they never bothered me.
Now D2 on the other hand...😬
Destiny 1 was well-received by the end of its life with all the improvements made. Now, D2 is trash again.
@@transfo47 destiny's player numbers on steam disagree with you
Crazy how much I loved this game. I was addicted ever since the beta and I always wanted more but once destiny 2 came it felt like the same thing over again and repetitive and didn't give me that feel that the first one gave off. And everything we did, every fight we won felt like didn't mean much when it came to the second one.
The music envokes mystery and a sense of facing the great unknown.

Oh my goodness the nostalgia
Where are my 2020 guardians! We got darkness ships to destroy and aliens to slay everyone needs to be pumped!!
I've been playing Destiny for over two years and never watched this until now.
I started tearing up right at the beginning. Even if I've only been here for half the journey, we've come so far.
It would have been even more sick if like one of the astronauts got his helmet off because he fell on the floor or looked into some sort of system in the suit that scanned the atmosphere of the planet and realised that he could breathe, and would just look at the Traveler and realise it was because of him.
The nostalgia tho
