    Casual here- so take whatever I say with a pinch of salt- but listening to the discourse around the 65 game rule and expanding it to a wider point- it's your job. If you worked and didn't turn up for 20% of your shifts you would be fired or at least at risk of losing your job. Why are we saying that not turning up for 20% of the games means you should still be in the running for Employee of the Year (i.e. MVP)?

      Do you think it's a bad ideology that you should come to work sick? Especially post covid, the risk of getting more sick and /or infecting your coworkers is not worth it. With that in mind it is wicked to tie future potential earnings to that. Especially if you have already proven that when healthy, you can do your job. That's the argument.

      If that employee, this time without any external factors pretty much rooting for him and him actively showing in the regular season, is just far and away the best player, I think that it’s fine to give him the MVP.

      @ITSO_official 7 місяців тому +1

      @@Ohmeezzy Doing your job and being given an award for being the best are two different things. I can both say yes you are good at your job when you're here but if you aren't here you aren't here. There are times when that is to the benefit but imagine others who are there day in and day out but don't get recognised for that?

    • @ITSO_official
      @ITSO_official 7 місяців тому

      @@grandruby5343 I take your point- if that employee was by far and away having the largest impact on the company- like generating revenue etc. it would add to the factors to consider them the MVP. But poor attendance I would say still would be a big factor that counts against it is my point. And looking at his numbers I think he is not 'far and away' the best in the league- it's a nuanced conversation IMO because we need to define what we mean by 'MVP'- my definition might differ from your, my criteria might differ from yours. So to me if you are- let's say- by far and away the best and when you play you improve the 'company' loads- but you also don't play that often and when you don't our performance drops- I would rate the average of your impact on the court with the impact of you missing games- that would average out as not the MVP.

    the fact joel embiid is more willing to play more games to get an MVP award even though he's hurt, instead of resting up to actually be a help during the playoffs should show you where his mind is and what kind of player dude is. im gonna diagree with omars whole college men paradoy idea. There really isnt paradody when it comes to champions becuase of this weak era tax idea. What happened is during the one and down era, colleges went into 2 groups. One and done factories or everyone else. Those one and done schools, were the big schools such as the dukes and UNCs that are actually creating the nba draft. Because all the best players leave after a year, you end up with the other schools winning with these four year guys thanks to team chemistry in a playoff style of single elimation. Those schools that actually win get the lesser known talent and dont turn into dynasties cause once they become good enough to do that they just go into the draft. Like imagine, if guys had to stay 4 years ln the 80s, those duke and kentucky teams, would have been crazy

    If he misses just 4 more games on this injury.
    Then, IF he doesn’t re-injure same or different.
    Why did he miss games 1-6 on the count? Nobody speaking on that. Just these last ones.
    Abolish the rule but they still not voting for them. It’s always been a talking point.
    Same as non-injured players being considered for awards. If a guy balls out wire to wire then they want to give the award to someone who is a virtual no show for half season then all of a sudden ball out last few months and somehow be considered for major award.
    The contract that say you can get this big bonus for balling out your last year of a contract is bullshit.
    Last 2 years of contract shows your elite play. How many players have contracts that teams can’t move because they fall off a cliff after they get the big extension? A lot!!!

But a counterpoint: Would a franchise want to give you a supermax (35% of your cap) for a player that's not gonna play 20% of your games, including in the playoffs?? So many teams have been messed up with giant untradable contracts given to players that aren't as good as their contract

  • @504branden

    Just to add some context to the Tyrese Haliburton angle that Omar talked about, the only reason Hali has to make all-nba or win MVP this year is because he's never done it before and his extension kicks in next year. It's not a case of a player always has to earn that accolade the year before an extension kicks in.

If your style of play doesn’t impact winning enough to where your team isn’t winning a championship I don’t believe Clark should be in these convos. Individual accolades? Cool! L wilt 100 point game takes, not because I believe it happened (quite the opposite) but bc the discourse around its is always from people who are too young to have been alive for it but also don’t do research on the factors at play. To sages point most games weren’t televised at all back then. The nba finals were tape delayed if the game was on the east coast until 1979. The game allegedly happened in 1962. They had radio broadcasts and most of the time the range on those weren’t very far and definitely not nation wide, which is why very few remember the moment and the ones that do are/were probably in Pennsylvania. The only reason why it became nationwide news is because of newspapers. Every city and town has had one since before radios and every one had a sports section and all those reporters wanted something to report. To Domo’s point again it wasn’t a televised game but as I mentioned they did record it live on radio and you can find footage from the 4th quarter. I also believe the nba during David sterns time hid and/or destroyed any footage he didn’t find favorable. Like wilt and bill scrappin. and old mfs ain’t about to talk about the scraps when they talkin bout the good old days. I digress tho🤷🏾‍♂️ Y’all can’t conseptuallize the world without regular access to cameras and it limits you… I believe the recording I found when I googled for 5 damn seconds was fabricated by wilt and bill Campbell (the man who announced for the game) and reporters along with the Philadelphia warriors and nba to drive up revenue bc they needed all the extra attention and marketability they could get. If you gon do conspiracies at least do it right y’all boys better than this

    65 game rule is so dumb. The reason it’s in place is to coddle fans of players and to have more of a cash grab. Everything about the rule is for greed. And it’s bs every time these guys say that the awards mean nothing. Not a single player at the end of the day legacy isn’t improved by the awards they got. Y’all wanting players to risk more injuries for an arbitrary number that doesn’t matter for a regular season no one cares about is ridiculous. You want people to care about the regular season shorten it. Punishing players for mvps and such because they don’t play a certain amount of games is bs.

    I think they should change the way contracts are structured and keep the 65-game rule. Players should get bonus pay for getting awards, but it shouldn't be part of the player's contract. Also, it shouldn't just be about getting the award in the contract year. Lastly, all records are affected by rule changes. A perfect example is the change in how assists are given. They are more strict on assist now, but Stockton has the record from entry passes to a post player.

    take the financial incentive for awards out of contracts. it gives the organization and the media too much power over the players. people tryna dance around this rule and blame the nbpa or certain players when the smoke should be aimed at the front office who will take any opportunity to underpay their workers
