    Load development is my favorite part! I reload all of our hunting ammo and i use a 260 rem and 6.5 Grendel. I love the 6.5 caliber cartridges! Hopefully will do a reloading video or two on our channel in the future!

    I shoot F-PR and hunt with the 6.5PRC in a CA MPR. Typically I use the 147 grain ELD-M with retumbo and adg brass. Probably the most versatile cartridge out there imo.

    I have a custom 6.5 PRC (Saltzman Gun works) I love it. With someone who isn’t great at wind calls, this helps me not suck so much. The brass is hard to find, I’m loading US869 and Berger VLD 140gr.

      @Down N Out Outdoors I’ve only ever shot deer with them, but with what I’ve seen I wouldn’t hesitate to use them on a mature bull out 400+ yrds. I’m using RL 26 and I’ve been very happy with it. Hope those Bergers work well for ya.

    Literally anything 6.5mm (.264) is a pure pleasure to shoot. My 6.5 Grendel, CZ-527 using hand-load 120 grain Barnes-X atop 31.0 grains of Hodgdon LEVERevolution produces 2585 fps and delivers 5-shot groups under 3/4-inch at 100-yards with frightening regularity. The Mini-Mauser action is stiff and smooth, weighing in at just 7 pounds with a Leupold 2x7-33mm scope.
    It is easy to carry in the back county all day and will not beat up the shooter. It's been a long time coming since the 6.5x55mm Swede and the .264 Winchester hit the market. But it's pretty safe to say that the American shooter has finally warmed up to this outstanding caliber in a very big way.... ^~^

    My load is N565, Hornady brass, Fed 210M and Berger 144 Hybrid. I harvested 2 whitetail last year that dropped instantly. Also took a Coues at 636 yards with Hornady 143 ELD-M ammo. I just ordered a barrel in 1:7.5" twist so I can shoot the 156s.

    I just shot my 6.5 PRC for the first time yesterday. I got the cheapest one on the market! Mossberg Patriot Predator. I averaged .86 for my groups with Hornady Hunter and Match ammo with my best at .334. Really like this caliber and looks to be my blind, spot and stock and long range hunting round. My .308 is my tree stand round now.

    I just got the CZ 600 Alpha Black in 6.5 PRC about a month ago and so far the worst group I've got was 1.29 inches with most groups being between .25 inches and .75 inches. Have tried 4 factory loads so far and the best two groups were with Hornady 147 grain ELD Match and the Hornady 143 grain Precision Hunter with both groups looking like a perfect little 3 leaf clover at 100 yards measured with a Leopold lazer range finder from muzzle to target.

    I'm having great accuracy with both my Seekins Havak and Savage ultralight 6.6PRC. Factory Hornady 143 ELDX and reloads with 55.5 gr. RL26. Both loads and rifles 1/2" at around 2980 fps. The Savage shoots Cutting Edge 140 MTH same powder and load into the same hole! Have shot 3 out of the first 4 3-shot groups in the same hole! One of those was at 200yds!

    Working on load development know. Running a Bergara Highlander in 6.5 PRC. Started with factory 143ELDx and was super impressed with the accuracy. Under 1/2 MOA at 100 - 200 and 300 yds. But now trying the Barnes 127 LRX. Fun times ahead. Also looking to try the Sierra Game changer 140 gr once they are in stock. Let's hope our Reloading supply shelves are stocked up soon.

    A 6.5 PRC will give you around 350 FPS faster than a 6.5 CM when you compare grain for grain bullet.

    • @TechieTard
      @TechieTard 2 роки тому +2

      The creed guys will negate and say it's a measly 200 fps faster. You are correct, grain to grain it's between 300 to 350. That's a whole hell of a lot when you consider compound bows shoot from 270 to 350 fps an overall grain weight of 125 to 135.

    I have a CA Ridgeline in 6.5 PRC with a Vortex Razor AMG on top. I did alot of load work last year with with H1000, H4831sc and RL23. The most consistent and repeatable loads I found so far is with a 140gr Accubond, 50gr of RL23 at 3.325. The speeds where in the 2750 range. The next one was 130gr AB, 50gr of RL23 and 3.315. Those two loads will cloverleaf with the holes touching at 100yrds. The 140gr Partition did real good with H1000 and H4831sc but that needs a bit more work to find consistent CL's. I got a new chrony so I'll play with that this year and see what the different loads will do speed-wise.

    I’m shooting a Christensen Arms Mesa in 6.5 PRC, topped with a Tract Toric 4-20 x 50. As of now I’m just using factory Hornady 143 Gr ELDX for hunting, and the 147gr ELDM for target shooting. Last weekend I shot a 3 shot group with the ELDM, that almost put all three in the same hole. With that performance it would be hard to beat that with reloading.

    I just bought a Franchi Momentum Elite in 6.5 PRC. Trigger pull from factory set at 2 lbs., 9 ounces. Didn't need a bed job according to gunsmith, from factory pretty tight, shaved some off left side stock channel, and took radial brake off, and put a stainless steel side discharge brake on, cerakoted to factory midnight bronze cerakote to match. Plan to use this in Wyoming for Antelope and Mule deer. I believe it has a 1 in 7 twist rate, 24 inch barrel. Would love to use these Bergers on Elk!

    I put a bartlein m24 26” carbon on a big horn origin action. I’m shooting berger 130 vld hunter. 59 grains of rl26 with magnum match federal primers with Hornady brass. That load is pushing the 130 at 3260fps. I’m in new your and only shoot whitetail deer. My 270 always dropped them with a 130 so figured I wanted as flat a shot I can have. I do shoot deer at long distance. I shoot off tripod almost exclusively unless zeroing. I have a 10” plate at 690 and only need 10.75 moa to be water line on plate. Love the prc. I did use N560 rather than N565 because it was all I could find at the time, and I didn’t get great results. However. I have gotten 5 lbs of N565 now and have not worked up a load with the 156 Bergers. Currently I am loading 144 Lapua FMJs for some long range target shooting (hoping to stretch it to a mile). I hope you give me some good news for the combination of the N565 and the 156s as I hope to use those for hunting.

    I'm glad you finally posted a vide of this. Most have know idea what their load does for one condition to another. this will be a long post as TV screws the real world conditions. The only shot that counts in hunting is the first. Groups don't matter unless you shoot them in all conditions. Meaning leave the target hang shoot in all conditions years round if you can. What can you do to make a 1/2'' moa from summer to winter? Answer back if you have a reasonable expectation to take a long range shot under all conditions. Educate me why you would do this

    • @Tfox31
      @Tfox31 3 роки тому +2

      The answer is an easy one, practice! You can not expect to sit around all year not practicing and at hunting season pick up your rifle and make that first round hit. You must take the time to learn your system and how it works in the conditions that you could potentially find yourself hunting in. You cannot buy first round hits, you must practice to get them.

    What do I think? :D
    - Well, here in Sweden we did see the light about a 125 years ago and went with the 6.5 instead of anything els (Like the .30.. urk, 7 or 8mm etc)
    Jokes aside. I have shot and hunted for years with the 6.5x55 and it is wonderful. Nowadays I shoot a 6.5 Ackley, and based on performance; it should be about the same as the PRC(?)
    - The 6,5s in my opinion offers very good effect for what they are. They buck the wind well and they shoot relatively flat and are very forgiving both to load for and shoot. With to days modern bullets I actually believe that you are not giving anything up shooting a 6.5 or a non-magnum .30.
    As usual; a great video, Gavin. Thanks for you`r good work!

      I have a .264 Winchester Magnum with a 1:9 twist, shooting Speer Gold Dot 140gr. BC advertised at .571, velocity at 3025 and my rifle hasn't ever been more accurate. Haven't tried long distance target shooting more than 300 yards but I'm very pleased. I did a high velocity impact at 15 yards with 1" dry pine and 4 gallon water jugs. Expansion just over an 1" with 92% weight retention out of a thin jacketed bonded bullet. 100 yard impact, bullet 99% weight retention. I believe that Speer gold dot and Speer Impact bullets are the best ammunition for hunters needing a high BC in a 1:9 twist for the 6.5s.

    I've been shooting the 6.5PRC for probably 3 years. I don't big game hunt, but shoot a lot of long distance. I've had great success shooting Hornady brass with 57.2 gr. of Reloader 26 and the Sierra 150gr SMK. Getting muzzle velocities of around 3,100fps. Shot it as far as 2,100 yds. but it's more suitable performance is around 1,760(1 mile) to 1,850yds. I since started using ADG brass which is superior to Hornady. A freaking AWESOME cartridge. The only draw back is length, I know it's short action case but I've had more success loading the longer 150gr SMK seated further out. I've had to single feed but it's worth it. This thing is a hammer. If I were to build a rifle I'd get a medium or long action, so your not limited to magazine length. A GREAT ROUND!!

    The 6.5 PRC is very similar in ballistics to a 7mm Remington mag. Look at factory loads in Hornady "precision hunter" ammo and you will see both cartridges perform almost identical out to 1000 yards (with the 7mm mag being slightly better). The PRC has a little less bullet diameter and weight, and as a result has a little less recoil. As far as hunting rifles go, I would prefer to have the larger diameter and weight of the 7mm mag.
