    As I was rolling out the black fondant and using corn starch, i realized that the black fondant took the colour of the corn starch which made my black fondant have a white colour to it. And I’m having difficulties with getting it out. Do you have any tips on getting the white colour of the corn starch out of the black fondant or to deal with black fondant without corn starch?

    • @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe
      @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe  3 роки тому

      This is why I steam my cakes! It helps bring back all of the saturation that the cornstarch takes out.

      I should do a quick video on steaming cakes! Unfortunately it doesn’t stay shiny, but you can brush cakes with a mixture of vodka and corn syrup so they stay shiny!!

      I actually don't know what the name of it is....we used to call it a 'rolly texture tool' at the bakery haha. Definitely not the technical name. It's basically a tool that can indent your fondant without cutting it and it rolls.

    You know pple in my area dont want to pay for cakes like this they think is too much. Its really a struggle in my area of GA. It piss me off, and I'm like I am not going to do a cake for $80 or $100 I'm not making no money for that. Then I called around to local bakers and some charge really cheap prices for small cakes like this. I'm like why and how?

    • @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe
      @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah that can happen in small pockets especially! Undercutting pricing is an issue. I think outputting super high quality work that’s difficult to find elsewhere is the place to start, but definitely a tough situation. 💕

    It’s a beautiful cake but not sure why it’s worth 300$? I’m a baker too and made many cakes as well and some really extravagant that have taken a rather long time to make.. but I’ve never charged that much fir a cake. I figure I don’t own a shop and I’m not some famous baker, however if I was I would definitely charge more.. but I guess to each is own and if you can get that much for this cake, more power to you!

    • @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe
      @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe  3 роки тому

      Pricing is a tricky thing because it really depends on where you live. I live in a very expensive area in general. Owning a house for example starts at a million dollars-and not necessarily a very nice one. Go to the next province over and you can easily find something for half that amount. So I understand when a price like that seems over inflated, but it’s actually fairly middle of the road here. I consult various bakeries frequently to ensure my pricing guide is relatively average. In my newer videos I mention that it’s better to look at a series of how I would price so you can see the difference between the cake costs rather than just look at the number.

    • @nelstein5995
      @nelstein5995 3 роки тому +1

      I agree. Even though the cake is beautifully executed, I don't think anybody in The Netherlands would pay 300 euros or dollars for a 6 inch cake like this😅. I think people would say "voel eens ff aan je voorhoofd", meaning something like "are you crazy?😅"

    OMG. $300.00 dollars for a SIX inch cake? Where do you live where people pay that price for so little cake? Especially when it’s all fondant. Half the cake is going to be peeled away/not eaten anyway. Not trying to be negative, I’m just really curious. I would never be able to sell a cake that size for that price where I live. Even if all those flowers were piped out in Italian Buttercream. 🤔

    • @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe
      @SweetDreamsBakeShoppe  3 роки тому +1

      No I totally get that! Haha it does seem very expensive, but things here are pricy. I live in B.C. in Canada. Some cake makers I know have starting prices of $300.00 meaning even simple cakes are charged that amount!
