- Your Bic lighter is super important because it's an immediate flame source! Why not protect and prep it? Prep your Bic lighter for resilience to moisture. Give yourself some quick, available and easy to light tinder!

The medal sleeve over the top of the thumb wheel is to child proof the lighter. It has to be depressed to engage the wheel. A wrap of cordage or duct tape comes in handy as a tinder source or to secure something to the lighter.
Very helpful. Good idea!
That little clip on the lighter is meant to be a child safety thing, never met a kid that didn't figure out how to light one in about 2 minutes
I know right! All it does is hold in moisture if it gets wet and makes it harder to spark. But I think your right it was intended as a safety thing.
Here's a tip.
Ditch the Bic, use a clipper.
Refillable
Replaceable flint
Removable spark wheel (use w Char cloth)
Etc.
Very Cool, ill check the Clipper out. What is the cost difference? Thanks for the tip!
@@LifeintheNorth40 they cost about the same. Cheap as chips.

That metal shroud is a child safety
You are correct, but it also holds in moisture so its best to get rid of it. Thanks for your comment. Please like and subscribe if you enjoy our content.
What a great idea! Looks super handy for just grip too!
Thanks! Yes, it is very tacky and grippy with the beeswax wrapped wick.
Dig that video!
Thanks for the vid. I'm going to try wrapping mine with cord. I always add a few wraps of 1" gorilla tape to mine. There certainly is enough room under the cord wrap. Great stuff you guys.
Thanks so much for your encouraging words! That is a great Idea, you could wrap gorilla tape and the wick material both.
@@LifeintheNorth40 the problem I foresee with layering the tape under the wick, or vice versa, is that you will have to remove one to get to the other.
Well done. A great idea and productive piece for your survival kit.
Glad you like it!
Well done! Good idea and presentation.
Thanks Ray. If you check out our other videos you may notice your neck of the woods
Very cool
Loved the idea. The metal that you removed is a child safety device. To prevent them from mis use .
Have a good one
From Australia. Brownie
Better to use a clear bic, so you can easily see how much fuel you have.
Great point. Thanks!
hello both of you. Useful addition to one, and really give someone more to work with because they did the prep work in advance. i have something like this too on some of them especially if i can squeeze it into the container/tin still 5:11 CR agrees ;) take CaRe

I haven’t used wick material before and I I’m curious if the heat in your vehicle kit melts the material together and makes it more sticky?
No sir, its permeated beeswax in the wick fibers. Normal temps wont cause an issue
Add chapstick 2 yr lighter by a small lanyard of Paracord with as much cotton stuffed in2 the chapstick lid
That is a great idea! I never thought about doing that but it makes sense that lip balm can be used as a fire starter and easy access to your tender. We always love learning new tips! Thanks for watching!
@@LifeintheNorth40 it's called a ranger lighter no I'm not military but I have family that is
Here's something to make your bic better....
GET A CLIPPER
It's "bight"....not "bite".
You are correct Doug!
