  • A rough translation (the actor was NOT Norwegian i.e. Producer Larry Franco, and mispronounces words). If only someone there had spoken his language! Hell, they would have shot him anyway!😂

I saw this for the first time not even knowing Norwegians were in the movie! My Mom is Norwegian. There are 2 forms of Norwegian . Nynorsk and Bokmål . He was speaking Bokmål. I was also annoyed when Kurt Russel kept calling them Swedes and was happy every time he was corrected .
For me it enhanced the experience . Imagine knowing crucial information but not being able to convey it because you didn’t speak the language just to get shot by some idiot who you weren’t even going after . That is truly tragic and terrifying .
They didn’t use the classic Hund for the word dog though.
“Bikkje “is Derogatory said about a person you would be calling them a Bitch
I think they chose this because it would be harder to understand and because the man is frustrated and swearing .
A lot of what he’s saying is actually close to English Words .
    Ting is Thing
    Imiterer is imitation
Ikke virkileg means it’s not real.
If any of them had a cursory understanding of Norwegian they could have figured out what he was saying.
And to me that makes it even more tragic

    • @Helmert93
      @Helmert93 Рік тому +16

      A couple of corrections:
There are two forms of *written* Norwegian. No one speaks Bokmål and Nynorsk, because Bokmål and Nynorsk refers to the two official writing standards in Norway, not spoken language. Saying someone "speaks" Bokmål is like saying someone "sings" written musical notation. It's a technicality, I know :P
Also, I wouldn't go as far as saying the word "bikkje" is derogatory. Bikkje and Bitch might be etymologically related, but it's not used the same way in Norwegian. It's more slang - an informal way of saying "hund", but even this can vary from dialect to dialect. For example, in my native dialect, the word "hund" has almost disappeared completely in favor of "bikkje", even in rather formal settings.
Calling a person "bikkje" as derogatory is not common usage of the word. If someone called someone else "bikkje" with no other context added, I would think the person in question was literally looking like, or acting like a dog :P

I know they're named Lars and Matias, but I'll refer to them by the last name of the actors, Norbert Weisser played the pilot since he could speak Norwegian, and Larry Franco played the gunman hanging out the side of the chopper. Franco's jacket is torn, while Weisser's jacket (which matches Lars' jacket in the prequel) doesn't have a scratch. While hopping out of the chopper, Weisser grabs the rifle while Franco attempts to throw the thermite grenade and blows up, and Weisser is shot by Garry.

I am Norwegian. Here is my translation, which is pretty similar to the one in the movie clip. It is a bit hard to make out everything, but it is something like this:
    1. Line: Se til helvete og kom deg vekk! - Get the hell away! (that is perhaps the closest thing it can be translated to. Or maybe: Will you get the hell away!)
    2. Line: Det er ikke en bikkje. Det er en slags ting. Det imiterer en bikkje. Det er ikke virkelig. Kom dere vekk, idioter! - It is not a dog. It imitates a dog. It isn't real. Get away, idiots!
The actor has learned to say the words, but it seems like he is parroting and does not really understand what he is saying. But I have heard much worse.

Nice. Takk for forklaringen :D Ive been learning Norwegian and could only make out bits and pieces on my own. The first line in particular is weird. Shouldnt it be "Kom helvete deg vekk" if it were to be said correctly? Otherwise its...Look to Hell and get away?

@@SvendleBerries You could say: "Kom deg til helvete vekk". You are right that "look to Hell and get away..." would be a very literal translation of "se til helvete og kom deg vekk". But "se til helvete" is not such an uncommon way of expression oneself in a heated exchange. It can be used in certain contexts to amplify the meaning of the message. In this case that the American crew at the base should get out of the way/get away from the dog.

Also, an old-style hunting rifle (like a bolt-action rifle) wouldn't have worked the same way from a dramatic POV: the guy wouldn't have looked as dangerous had he had to re-load the gun after each shot. As for the grenades...yeah, that didn't make sense, but the same can be said about the military-style flamethrowers (which use fuel that would freeze in Antartica). Also, there are no bears in Antartica: penguins are the largest land animal you'll find there. But we all know penguins are the most dangerous beasts on Earth and must be fought with any means necessary.
