You only had to spend an hour at Sandbach, some of us have had to spend years. Some more fun Sandbach facts for you: The coppice behind you off platform 3 used to all be goods lines. Realignment work took place in preparation for HS2 trains being routed into Manchester via the line before the line into Manchester was completed. The line which diverges to the left towards Manchester leads to Middlewich and Northwich, the royal train was often stabled down there on overnight stops.
The secret to making snowballs with powdery snow is to take one glove off. Then the heat from your hand slightly melts the snow and it will stick together. Keep the glove on on your throwing arm.
Hello there, how are you? Its a pretty cold day here in Crewe. Woke up today and thought "What should I do?" Whilst sat at my desk and sipping my morning brew. I thought for a while, then out of the blue "Here's Alderley Edge, there's something new." I've never been down the line. Its true, And a good service per hour, two! All five stations, all the way through. That's an idea that I've warmed to. I hear there's a viaduct with a nice view, And now for this channel it can make its debut So thanks to Northern right on cue, Filming this video I shall get into, Lets begin without further adieu, On board this Class 323 EMU! Your welcome
Nick - I am glad for your sake you could get off at Styal. In late 1995, I was taking a splendid lady on our first date, to the Quarry Bank Mill you mention. The train whizzed through Styal without stopping at the next (unintended) stop. I asked the guard what had happened: "I spoke to the driver and we could not remember whether we were supposed to stop at Styal(!)" Mercifully, my date and I thoroughly enjoyed Quarry Bank Mill. She has now been my wife of nearly 28 years. You never know, Nick. You could find your future wife at Styal. Thanking you for al your videos.
Also, I admire Nick for not only going out and being willing to film in this snowly/icy weather. Where I live in the Southern US ... if the ground looks like that, we hibernate in our houses and wait for it to melt.
Brilliant video Nick, I just want the WMR 323's back in Birmingham on the CrossCity line lol. Honestly, the snow is pretty and all but it's cold lol. Shame you couldn't make a snowman though.
1:09 northern employees in ski masks appearing at a West Midlands depot very early in the morning coupling every 323 they can find then legging it up the west coast.
The old Cross City line 323's are also on the Manchester to Blackpool service too! I was heading to Horwich Parkway from Deansgate station with some friends and a pair of 323's arrived instead of the normal 331's. I had to ask one of the train crew "Is this going to Blackpool?" because in my mind, I thought it could have been a late running Liverpool train. It's nice to see the 323's are still in service though and adds a bit of qirkiness to Northern's endless amounts of CAF's but still provide an improvement over the older versions of the sprinters.
Nice to see you boarding the former West Midlands Railway Class 323 that were used on the Cross-City Line. Which they got replaced by the Class 730/0. I do hope that Northern will keep the Class 323s for long time.
What a great use of the 323s, not retiring them, but giving them to northern... Can't wait to see (a video of) a northern + WMR 323 coupled together!!!
Before the Airport line opened (1993?) there were four trains an hour between Manchester (Altrincham before it was replaced by Metrolink) & Alderley Edge, two via Stockport, one of which carried onto Crewe, and two via Styal but they were diverted to terminate at the Airport. Only in recent years has one of the Airport trains been extended onto Crewe semi fast.
Great video although it's strange hearing Northern announcements on a train with WMR moquette 😂 Goostrey station is quite near the Lovell telescope at Jodrell Bank, I wonder if you can see that from there
Sandbach would appear to be the most southerly Northern station the others it roughly lines up with in England are LNW,EMR and LNER.Chathill is the most northerly Northern station.
That snowball fight ended Badley 😂 great video despite it not going to plan and Sandbach is the southernmost station that Northern operates. Congleton is 2nd and Sandbach just beats Congleton
Hmm well technically the Birmingham Cross City and other local lines got 350's and 730's to replace them. I remember when they arrived on Crewe- Deansgate and Hazel Grove/Macclesfield- Manchester replacing the older stock. Don't forget 730's are coming to Euston-Crewe- Liverpool
So, Northern do a Manchester Piccadilly to Crewe via Stalybridge, and TFW do services from Matchester Airport to Wales via Piccadilly and Crewe. Wonder which is quicker?
Even more old trains for Northern. Can't help but think Northern would have been better off waiting a year or two and picked up the 350's instead. Obviously this would have meant keeping the 319's a little longer but at least the trains would have been around 20 years old instead of 30.
But sadly the West Midlands Railway Class 323 that were used on the Cross-City Line have now been replaced by the Class 730/0. I hope that Northern don’t get rid of the Class 323.
Intersteing how the two British rail content creators I have subscribed take so differet approaches to the same topic. Network Nathan has beaten you on the time for the 323s at Northern, but your video is so different it does not matter at all. Now you know what in Germany is called a "view connection". On arrival (or running the stairs or along the platform) you can still see your train departing. Closest I ever had was the green lights in the button turning off 2 cm before my finger could press it.
The rhymes at the start 😂
never say that again
Yet again, Britain's Railways having the 'Wrong kind of Snow!'

West Midlands: We don't need these trains anymore, we have more modern ones.
Northern: I'll take those!
West Midlands did the 323 dirty by doing that the Cross City Line isn't the same now with the 730s
@BritishTrainsRBX it's like they just want more modern trains, and nothing but the newest. Well... Good luck with those software crashes, I guess!

Another great nideo Nick really enjoyed watching. Great Poem.
Ooh my local station!
Styles, Styal in Snowy Style. Lacks a bit of edge though. 😉
13:34 Idea for a point-to-point: Chelford to Chelmsford, or are their names too dissimilar?
...via Shelford (near Cambridge).
or Shelford to Chelford to Chelmsford, to pair up the stations with the most similar names
@NickBadley of if Shelford and Chelmsford don't fit a point-to-point, there's two separate videos...
What a great use of the 323s, not retiring them, but giving them to northern... Can't wait to see (a video of) a northern + WMR 323 coupled together!!!
Also, were the 'Class 323 ---- 30 years and still going strong!' 'things' still there?
@@lodolemon39Hthey were removed when they left WMR
@@lodolemon39HOr '30 years and still going wrong' I always used to read it as when confronted with a cross city train cancelled message!
Congratulations Nick...your video did the trick...

Have once again returned to my youtube feed. 😭😭
Finally @NickBadley! You uploaded my county-railway-related video! Guess what's my local line in the West Midlands!

The class 323
I love them
Pam Ayres eat your heart out....our new peoples poet
Nick Badley, heres a point to point journey you could do if you feel like it: Hadfield to Hatfield

Those rhymes.... if only I could rhyme like that, can ya teach me? 😂
Wrong sort of snow at Styal ? Better text the British 😂
Good to see the ex West Midlands 323s in service with Northern
Great video although it's strange hearing Northern announcements on a train with WMR moquette 😂 Goostrey station is quite near the Lovell telescope at Jodrell Bank, I wonder if you can see that from there

I love the 323
Hi is dweller coming
1:52 i might be weong but i believe they manage kidsgrove and possibly longport on the manchester to stafford line
I think Kidsgrove is EMR
Nick became Dr Seuss
@NickBadley, it's very strange that there's a WMR 323 at 2:30, even though the station your at is operated by Northern!
It’s just where they haven’t gotten round to repainting them yet, I think.
Those platforms look so slippery
Cool. Alright. Cool.
That snowball fight ended Badley 😂 great video despite it not going to plan and Sandbach is the southernmost station that Northern operates. Congleton is 2nd and Sandbach just beats Congleton
Loved the video and the snow! Was wondering, by any chance will you be doing eny coverage on the Greatest Gathering at Derby Litchurch Lane?
i assume some stations had more grit placed than others hence the amount of snow on the platform
Hmm well technically the Birmingham Cross City and other local lines got 350's and 730's to replace them. I remember when they arrived on Crewe- Deansgate and Hazel Grove/Macclesfield- Manchester replacing the older stock.

I'll answer the question of the snow at Styal. The snow from nearby Manchester Airport was dumped on Styal because it was nearby
Why didn't you go to Handforth? It's on the other branch.
I want my trains back grrr😅
Is that a new coat? Christmas present perhaps?
A point to point would be from Holmes Chapel to Chappel and Wakes Colne
11:55
Technically you can change at Crewe for beyond...
The beginning of this video only works with a British accent. But it works oh so well.
It was bloody typical, was on holiday in Germany and Austria at the time and it snowed at home 🙄.
So, Northern do a Manchester Piccadilly to Crewe via Stalybridge, and TFW do services from Matchester Airport to Wales via Piccadilly and Crewe.
Wonder which is quicker?
You mean Stockport, not stalybridge, I presume...?
@andrewnelson4057 I was using the map shown in the video as reference. If it's supposed to be via Stockport, I didn't know, sorry
@mattevans4377 What Mao...?
@@andrewnelson4057 The one Nick uses to show all the stations on the route he's doing
