Czech bro that view at the top of the Favela where you was looking at both sides was Amazing its like a different world there , that there is a thing of beauty ...
This channel is great! I am seriously considering visiting brazil with a view to living there in the future. Started learning B. Portuguese recently and getting myself and my finances in order. I really hope things work out well and looking forward to it. Shout to Czech!!!
Hey there. We visited Rocinha last August, me Dutch, Jacqueline Brazilian, we live both in central France. Thanks for the recording, as I only took pictures, as it was not comfortable to film. We left as well our jewelry home before going there. We have been robbed before in Rio. Great contact you had, great way to record, thanks. PS. Rocinha is defenitely NOT the "most dangerous favela" of Rio, that's just a hoax. Rocinha is the first, biggest and safe favela in Rio, created by the poorest people of Brazil from the North. But, downloaded your film, showing pretty much what we experienced. Interesting that you found a nearly native English spoken guide, that is very rare in Brazil. Muito abrigado et um grande abraço ! Arjan
Sup brah good you got the plug in the favela great content keep it up my guy good to see people going about their day good to see the hood seen this favela on many vids dope u got a guide to take u around, stay safe homie, shoutout from Australia.
Thanks for the videos but I really think you should try and head out and see some of the more interesting places in Brazil at least go to Bahia, and check out the towns as well as Salvador. Even go North up to the Amazon area and go inland at least to Minas Gerais. You know Rio is ok but if you don't get to the other areas you really are missing out on some really really amazingly beautiful places in Brasil.
30% of Brazilians live in poverty by US standards. When I was staying there back in 2000 the rate was at 50%. That's a nice improvement. Most travel shows and vlogs don't bother to show the impoverished areas like favelas. Sometimes it's not a pretty sight but most of the time it's just everyday people living their lives. I remember when I first went to Rio I would walk a few hundred feet into a favela. I was told that this was not a smart idea. I could be mistaken for a police officer or a rival gang member. My bad. After that I always went with some locals on an invite. They knew where to take me and when things were calm enough to have visitors. One of the highlights came when I became friends with a guy that rents chairs on the beach. He took me and 3 American men to his favela over by the big soccer stadium. As he promised we spent much less money in the bars, we ate well and met women that didn't want a whole lot of money. We stayed overnight and had the time of our lives. This would have been impossible to do on our own.
@@13bcoffee Who told you that 50% of Brazilians live in favelas? This is completely wrong. According to estimates, 17 million Brazilians live in communities recognized as favelas. There are 215 million Brazilians. Therefore, about 7% of Brazilians live in favelas. It is important to point out that only part of the favelas, usually in Rio de Janeiro, are located on hills. The second largest favela in Brazil, for example, is located on flat land, about 30 km from the capital, Brasília.
OK ... I am trying to correct myself typing on my phone. Back when I lived there in 2000 the poverty rate was 50% which is what I should have said. I just checked and it's down to 30%. That's some real progress! The US has moved in the other direction and is now at 14%.
Rio is so beautiful. Here now but I don’t dare go into these areas not worth it, although some of definitely safer and worth a visit Rio has so much to offer

(Apocalipse, 8)

They dont turn away there families like in the USA. I've seen plenty with drug problems but there family still make sure they have food in their stomach and atleast tries to know where the may be when they can
There is a documentary on Rio CRACKOLANDIA by ross Kemp. A mother gets off work and comes all the way downtown just to look for her son and feed him. (he is addicted to crack). Prays for him and all daily
I don’t think it’s so much of “turn away”. Some ppl with a drug problem may stay away for unknown reason to family. Most likely embarrassment. My opinion is that if a family turns their back it comes from either tired of enabling or sees there’s just no hope in helping. And this is not for only drugs, it can be mental as well.
There are a lot of homeless, just not in the gang and militia controlled areas. Check out videos of Cracolândia and praça Isabel in São Paulo. I've lived in a well off part and saw homeless everyday (many).
He told you excuse me is "Com licensa" which does get used. But that can seem formal. Literally it means something like "With permission". I mostly heard "desculpe" or "desculpe-me" ... sorry or sorry me. Truth be told is that I was surprised at how few Brazilians say anything after bumping into you. My Brazil girlie had a big laugh when she came to the US and everybody all the time was saying sorry and excuse me. Cultural differences I suppose .. Hmm ... I have yet to see anybody or any women do the kiss on each cheek greeting. I guess that went away with covid.
