- Those familiar with the story of Mulan will know that although she encountered various difficulties in the army, she never gave up; even when her companions discovered she was a girl. After watching Disney's retelling of the story most people are left with a deep respect for Mulan. However, truthfully Mulan is only one heroine, from the many (both real and fictional) who have defended and shaped China throughout its long history. Why then is Mulan's story so popular and enduring, and what are the key reasons why Mulan's story continues to be passed down from generation to generation in China?

If you have Disney+ you can set the audio to Chinese (中文) or Chinese（普通话), both are Mandarin but the former is from Taiwan and the latter is from mainland China

the mandarin and canto version are way better than the english one. Mushu is slightly less annoying

Firstly, Mulan was of Turkic origin and therefore would not have spoken any Sinitic languages.
Secondly, during Mulan's time, simplified communist characters did not exist. Therefore, even if Mulan spoke and wrote in sinograms, she would not have used this type of incorrect script. During the time of Mulan, people in Northern Asia spoke Middle Chinese rather than Modern Mandarin.
