Don't throw the cones away. The nuts can be used in some many ways from dessert to savory. Even just roasting the nuts. Have look on youtube for bunya bush tucker food.

There are 3 bunyas at Capitol park in Sacramento. The park staff cordon off the area around the tree and climb up to remove the seed pods.

We have one in our backyard in Land Park. It unloaded about 60 pine cones from 10-17lbs so far! We built a steel mesh pergola over our patio but stay out of the backyard for the duration. The cones started to fall on August 1st. They are still falling here and there. If anyone wants one or some or all, they are displayed in our front yard for free! Have to find an arborist with experience in this tree to maintain big time!

Here in Brisbane, Australia we have these everywhere and in all the parks. The council comes along and gets rid of the nuts when they are in season. They didn't mention that they also have branches that are just made up of spikes that fall and cover the area around the bottom. Those are good for whacking your friends with when you were a kid. The bun is pronounced like bun in the oven, not like boon.

I had one in my front yard and one of the cones fell on my windshield and completely destroyed it but I would always play under the tree when the grass was freshly mowed and the needles were raked up

FYI if you have one growing over where you live or regularly go, they seem to drop in spring and autumn.

These huge Bunya pine cones kind of reminds me of a much smaller Digger Pine Cone here in the US. When I was stationed as a US Park Ranger on TDY at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park these grew inside the park and you wouldn’t won’t one of these hitting you in the head either because they can weigh up to 2 1/2 pounds. The pine nuts from these cones are also edible and these trees grow up in the higher elevations of the Sierra mountains. You can actually hear these hit the ground when they fall.

The taller the tree the 2 pound cones get faster on the way down. In 1994 one zoomed past while I was walking in Sequoia but did not hit me.

Block off the area below the tree’s dripline.
    Don’t be so obtuse.
I have a Bunya in My backyard. Grown from a cone I got from Petaluma. It’s about 6” high. 2 years old.
    All because of David Gullpili.

If one of those things fell and hit somebody, wouldn't the owner of the tree be held responsible ?
The city should declare the tree a hazard and remove it at the owner's expense !
