I've been waiting to see Juan on your channel! I watched his episode and knew that it was only a matter of time. Keep up the great work and can't wait for the next one
I thought you forgot to give a thumbs up in this video so I had to watch again. That’s when I saw you gave Uncle Jimmy and the boys three thumbs up for the land plane work. Matthew please never stop showing yourself opening and closing the pickup door. Great channel sir.
So that is where all of our greedy geese end up going. Lucky for sure. I wish I could take a trip to California every year. Although I would be concerned with the occasional loud boom. Take care and God Bless!
The millennial farmer invited me to check out your videos since I’m in California thought I would, pretty cool I learned a lot about rice thanks for the video
Great update. Nice surprise visit for Juan Brown. Found your channel when he was doing that dam report and interviewed you as one of the water users. Great seeing the planes. Thanks!
It is amazing what spray planes can do. Most around here use the AT602A air tractor. It can carry 4,500 lbs even at our 4,000 ft and 100 degree temps. The AT802 can carry 9,200 lbs and is used to deliver retardant to fires from California to Australia.
Sweet I liked this vidio. In the past 6 months I've had total knee replacement for both my knees. While recovering from the surgeries I started following different farms. I have really enjoyed learning about rice farming. You make the learning fun, thank you
Great video matthew. Brought back memories of flagging for my uncle when he fertilized his rice. I'm sure they use GPS now. Quick question, has anyone tried no tilling rice?
Watching those planes work is just fascinating to me. Yesterday I was out watching the crop duster dusting the fields behind us. Those planes are really impressive and powerful!
Will you be selling your rice on your channel again this year, Matthew? My friends in Chico LOVED it. But three bags full was a bit much rice for two, so they sent one bag to rellies in southern California.
Hi Gary, I’m finally getting caught up to the great Juan Browne episode. It’ll be live this Sunday. We did have a lot of fun. Thank you for the message. -M.
Hello Matt, I know it may sound strange, but I want to ask, can your rice variety (m105?) Be planted in tropical area? If it is, can it grow under shallow water as you grow in California? If it is then and it maintain that high yieId, is there any way that i can obtain that variety for me to grow here in Indonesia? I'm really interested on your methods of farming. Because here it's really different. It's pretty much impossible to do what you do with local variety here, like even ½" water can kill the rice. Got 8 ton/ha, compared to your yield 11 ton/ha. I'd love to see videos of your explaining your methods of farming in detailed and comprehensive fashion. Otherwise great videos!
Your videos are always enjoyable Matthew! Great to see your seed going down to beat those pesky weeds. But that turtle, and the little one you called a rock? That little looked, if you can remember back in time, looked like it could have an igloo seed! Didnt they once have an ice age over there to carve out that beautiful and productive growing basin? Stay Safe and Healthy! -Bob...
The seed growers next to you do they have to flood their fields after planting I am asking because I thought rice had to have alot of water to grow into
Hi Allan, seed growers must flood just like we do. They prep the field the same way. The seed field you saw in this video was just behind (in preparation) our field. It still needs to have fertilizer and water added to it. Yes, rice fields are generally flood irrigated. -Matthew
Is it possible to broadcast or air seed or something and then flood after or does it pretty much have to be flown on after flood? Maybe it would move the seed around if tried to flood it after the seed is down? Just curious
We start out at 2” and let that sag down to just saturated soil during the first 20 days. We add another 1” and let that sag down to saturated soil over 10 days. Then for 100 days we hold the water at 2-4” deep. That’s all an approximation. -M.
Great question! In the spring the water comes from Lake Oroville Dam. It’s spring and summer snow melt from the sierra Nevada mountain range and rain water that was collected last winter. Water leaving the fields goes into the Sacramento River and eventually out into the Pacific ocean through the San Francisco Bay. That is, of course, it’s not picked up by other farmers, municipalities or environmental organizations along the way. -M.
I have always wondered why seed a rice field by airplane. I know in Asia they prefer to transplant rice plants into the field. In the Mississippi basin, they will plant rice with a grain drill. Why seed the rice into the field with a airplane?
Now in 2021 , I am also a Rice Farmer . Enjoying Farming, thanks for making such useful videos.
I really enjoyed this. I did not know that my life needed airborne rice seed planting, but apparently it does.
I've been waiting to see Juan on your channel! I watched his episode and knew that it was only a matter of time. Keep up the great work and can't wait for the next one
I don’t care how “high speed and precision equipped” your John Deere DB60 is ......... it is never as cool as a low pass by a Plane ! Well done Nelson

Great explanations Matt! Interesting about the seed crop flagging for pilots. Juan.
JB, our special episode is coming this SUNDAY! It’s going to be a good one.
-Matthew
Nice to see you here
I loved it I never knew how rice was planted and now this explains it
I’d love to have a Zon gun to stop my neighbor’s chihuahua from barking all night .
Great update. Nice surprise visit for Juan Brown. Found your channel when he was doing that dam report and interviewed you as one of the water users. Great seeing the planes. Thanks!
Yes very interesting! I have fungicide sprayed on corn by plane in Kansas!! Fun to watch!!!
Hi Karl, very cool. Yes, very fun to watch.

I hope you're knees are both recovering well. Matt is a good teacher.
Good explanation of a certified seed field
Thanks Jeff!
One of my favorite videos!!
I'll bet Mr. Turtle was chowing on all those flowers. The tortoises here in Arizona love flowers.
Those California turtles look like the ones we have in Florida. I’m forever having to get out and move soft shell turtles.
That was a re-eared slider. They aren't native to CA.
Great video matthew. Brought back memories of flagging for my uncle when he fertilized his rice. I'm sure they use GPS now. Quick question, has anyone tried no tilling rice?

No geese or ducks injured but boy are you in trouble from PETA for kicking that turtle....LOL
Love it, great video and a brief visit by JB.
I still want an hour of triplane action!
Scott, If you request this hour long episode of just triplane action on the next video, this Sunday-I’ll do it for you.
-Matthew
Love your vids hope your staying safe
Thank you, Tyler! Working hard and safe. Hope you’re well.
-Matthew
Thanks for sharing about how to plant rice, and your farming practices. Great videos, keep it up.
I can't wait to taste the 2020 crop year's harvest!
Will you be selling your rice on your channel again this year, Matthew? My friends in Chico LOVED it. But three bags full was a bit much rice for two, so they sent one bag to rellies in southern California.
Great job jimmy and da boyz.. and pilot he is kickass to me
Love it. A turbine cat is always a good show. I saw you on Brownies channel y’all were having to much fun.

Great video. Very interesting. I've been watching the build up to this special time.

Great video and wishing you all the best with your rice. You need to learn how to prepare “Gallopinto” with your rice. Greetings from Costa Rica!
HA ! Juan "Bloncolirio" Brown @ 15:25
Planting finally! Thanks for all these video's!!
Now we talking got a bird in the air seeding rice make it look easy lol looks like u got pet 🐢
I love seeding
I have done it
Thanks for showing us the seeding. If birds can see my seed they get it. Probably the same there
They say fighter pilot is a hard Job... this is almost the same as bombing. Thanks for these video's
It will be cool if you mount some go pros on the plane!
Very nice episode
Good job

Wat up to the best rice farmer I no
Matt, do you ever need to spread any seed (mechanically with an implement) on the edges/corners of the fields after seeding by air. To cover any gaps?
Maybee talk about what the rice needs in its fertilizer npks, and do you give it all in the spring or miltiple times?
Awesome footage man, killer watching that plane ripping like that over fields
The seed growers next to you do they have to flood their fields after planting I am asking because I thought rice had to have alot of water to grow into

What's the advantage of seeding from the air vs traditional planting?
Can you apply seed as soon as the field is flooded or do you wait a day or two?
As fast as possible because weeds start growing as soon as the field gets wet and you want the rice to get established, not the weeds.
Great video Matthew! Do farmers who have seed fields have to worry at all about pollen coming in from neighboring fields?
Great video like before.
Thank you, Satnam!
-M.
A true ,"air seeder".
Is it possible to broadcast or air seed or something and then flood after or does it pretty much have to be flown on after flood? Maybe it would move the seed around if tried to flood it after the seed is down? Just curious
How much water do you put in the fields to grow the rice
We start out at 2” and let that sag down to just saturated soil during the first 20 days. We add another 1” and let that sag down to saturated soil over 10 days. Then for 100 days we hold the water at 2-4” deep. That’s all an approximation.

That is need
Where does all the water come from in the spring and where does it go in the fall?
Great question! In the spring the water comes from Lake Oroville Dam. It’s spring and summer snow melt from the sierra Nevada mountain range and rain water that was collected last winter. @@Ricefarmingtv No problem with the fertilizer and insecticide?
We need a corn update! How's the corn coming along Matt?
Hey , what happened to the video on aqua bar ??
Zon guns are good for shooting tennis balls
More planes, please.
Awesome stuff M
do you use any shoe while visiting fields and while working in fields filled with water . suggest me the brand shoe you choose
When i was farming rice 40 years ago i wore blue jeans and wore cheap tennis shoes. Blue jeans to keep from the rice stalks from cutting my legs up
Hou many speachies of rice do you plant or know
love it....
Thank you, Jakob!
-Matthew
It's 2022 how much rice did you get planted this year.?
Curious what are the seeding application fee's per acre?
Do you soak the seed before sowing??
Yes.
Does soaking the rice also help it sink to the soil?
Yes, otherwise it can float on the surface and the wind would push it all to the edge of the field
As always a great video. Andrew I sent you an email with some information few weeks ago. Let me know if you got it. Luis

When I'm kicking you that means hurry up.
I have always wondered why seed a rice field by airplane. I know in Asia they prefer to transplant rice plants into the field. In the Mississippi basin, they will plant rice with a grain drill. Why seed the rice into the field with a airplane?
Have you ever considred growing your own rice seed. If not . Why dont you?
wonder if this guy has had his nose in the chamber pot
Do ya'll presoak your rice seed before putting into flooded culture by air.
We always did because the added the weight rice is not as likely to be moved around by wave and wind action
