      @@simoz78they did skip that BUT have a Crystal Oscillator is legit. I hope they stop instructing users to “unplug” from a camera. This video they talk about still needing more generators so that’s good. That’s how it should of been presented.

      @@simoz78your right… but that’s the fault of the device your syncing, not the Rode Wireless Pro. Doesn’t matter what you use to jam sync a device, the device is gonna drift.
      Still, I don’t know what all the fuss is about, if you really need 100% frame accuracy sync, your not gonna be using consumer level products. I’m sure Hollywood uses high end expensive time code generating systems to stay in absolute sync, but for us mere mortals, I don’t see the big deal about being out a frame or two with your audio in post.

      @@rodemicThis video doesn’t really handle the feedback head on. The problem is the real world use of the timecode feature by plugging the RØDE wireless go into your camera every couple of hrs. That will not work. This also wont work with other timecode devices which is why they tell you that you need to keep it plugged into your camera the length of the shoot. The rode wireless go timecode allowing you to sync the transmitters to the receiver is a GAME CHANGER!! I just filmed a golf tournament with the DJI mic and I lost signal when the golfers back were turnt towards me, so being able to use timecode to sync the internal recording of the transmitter is a WIN. Being able to use this system with 3 cameras is a no go. Being able to use it as a master and jam syncing other timecode devices is a WIN.

    It’s awesome you’re responding to the critiques about the timecode feature. It tells me you really care about this as a selling point instead of allowing users to potentially brush it off.
    One thing that would be great is if there were dedicated timecode boxes that come out in the future that’s compatible with this Wireless Pro system. That way, users could potentially replace their tentacle sync and diety boxes by having a Rode Wireless Timecode Box attached to each camera and audio device at all times while recording incredible audio within the same system. The way I understand the criticism, it isn’t about the accuracy of the Wireless Pro, but the in-accuracy of cameras that drift after a few hours (or minutes) of jam-syncing, then disconnecting any timecode box. It would be cool to come out with a smart slate as well!
    I pre-ordered and waiting for my set to arrive this week so I’m not complaining!

      Rode has not been responsive to my criticisms which are simple. The microphone's sensitivity only needs 12-bits, so 32-bit float improves nothing. It's 72db SNR is in their own specification. No it’s those not raising the concern. Those of us voicing it just read the already released manual after being concerned by Rode’s descriptions in their video and saw the massive holes in their implement of basic timecode workflows. Will you produce a USB-C to BNC cable for cameras to receive time code while recording stereo sound via the jack plug?

      We NEED a USB-C to USB power and BNC splitter cable along with a timecode mode that gives us isolated 1/2 channels (with all output options) plus full time LTC. We don’t have that right now and it is a necessary minimum feature on release if they want to market this as real timecode (just because it uses LTC doesn’t mean it’s a timecode device unless it can continuously jam in addition to its other primary function of being an audio receiver).

    I think one of the big drawbacks is that I can’t jam TO the Rode Pro, (…yet?) which is super frustrating for those of us who have other timecode systems that we treat as the master
    I’ve owned every single iteration of the Rode Go line and Rodelink systems, have a bachelors in recording engineering and I work in film/TV/commercials every single day. (when we are not on strike, that is), it’s a major inconvenience to not be able to freely jam what you want from your CHOSEN timecode slave device, it got a lot of peoples hopes up, myself included.
    As far as the accuracy claims, I would love to review a unit to compare against other timecode systems on the market myself, as a professional user, to properly test out these claims on accuracy

What if they're not needed until say 4 hours into the shoot? Or even worse, 7 hours in? Don't get me wrong, I'm happy this works but it's not the full solution. The issue is that the RODE Rx must be on the entire time, running on battery, with a 7 hour battery life. The master clock for a shoot is supposed to run (longer than) the entire duration of the shoot....e.g. so that other cameras, etc. can be re-jam-sync'd in case they need to power off etc. This work around doesn't work for that scenario. The real solution is the implied "yet" promise @01:44 in which case the RODE Pro doesn't have to be the master clock, or be used to jam the master clock for a shoot. That promise also enables multiple RODE Pro's to be used together (e.g. the 4, 6, 8 mic scenario). I'm elated that you're going to fix that!

    Time of Day Timecode Crossing Over Midnight has an issue. I'm not sure which one is correct, but I've been testing timecode sync using the RODE Wireless Pro and three OSMO Action 4 cameras. One big difference is in how things work when you cross over midnight. The RODE receiver was set to Time of Day and I jam sync'd the cameras with it. In Davinci Resolve when I import the footage with 00:00:00:00 as the first point in my timeline, I saw video footage there with no audio. It turns out that OSMO Action 4 wrapped the timecode at midnight to 00:00:00:00 and all footage after midnight was set with the "time of day" whereas the RODE Audio file's last segment had a start timecode of 24:01:41:23. I'm not sure which handling I prefer but I know for sure that I don't like the handling of this to be different! Does SMPTE not handle "time of day" timecode in their spec? Which one is correct? Is this a bug in the RODE timecode system?
    Given that, I was able to fix it, but it sure is annoying to have to fix it! And to be honest, the RODE handling is probably the best as it would put video on the timeline in the correct order. I just wonder if there's a standard that addresses this somewhere.

    If anyone is wondering - Can you have multiple wireless pro receivers synced to a single master wireless pro? As of 29/08/23 the answer is unfortunately, no. I reached out to support via email asking this very question. At the moment the best option would be to run time of day time code, setting both wireless pros receivers up via the same device and then doing a clap sync or slate to nudge them into sync, as time of day will get them close but not perfect.
    Though they did mention they would pass the request along so, I'm hoping that in future perhaps the app may be able to sync up timecode on connected wireless pros or if it is indeed capable of receiving timecode, one will be able to jam the other.

I originally thought that I could point the drone at the receiver and record the timecode so that I can use it to align my drone footage. Unfortunately the shine/glare from the finish of the receiver prevents the timecode from being recorded, not to mention the size of the display. Can you please release an iPhone app/slate that can be jam sync'd with the receiver? It would serve a lot more purposes than my scenario.

      The answer is no- the Wireless PRO cannot accept an incoming timecode to sync to, so you can't connect them together.
      However, the unit's time-of-day timecode is updated when connecting the units to RØDE Central. So if you connect two WiPRO systems to the RØDE Central (desktop or phone), they won't be 100% syncronised, but they will be accurate with each other to within about a second.

If you connect the "Rode Wireles Pro" transmitter to the "iPhone 15 Pro" with the USB-C cable, will you be receiving a 32-bit signal from the transmitter? So, I've got mine-the 32-bit float is lovely, but there's an issue. I synced two cameras (FX6 and A7IV) in DaVinci, and the cameras are perfectly in sync. However, your TX is drifting by -0.55 frames. To be honest, I have no idea how this is possible. Another thing: if you try to record at 0:21 AM, what is on the RX shows as 00:21:00:00, but your TX shows 24:21:00:00, which is also odd. More interestingly, on the synced cameras, the timecode starts correctly at 00:21:00:00. I really like the audio quality of this product, but the timecode feature is useless at the moment.

Is this system able to sync up to 3 kits with the same timecode via an app? Question: @0:42 you mention the receiver has the accurate oscillator. SO if I want to use the transmitters as 32-bit recorders without attaching the receiver to my camera after I jam-sync it, I need to still keep the receiver running and nearby to ensure the mic/transmitter stays in sync, right?

    • @rodemic
      @rodemic  11 місяців тому

      Hey there! This is a really good question. The transmitters can be used independently and they will record timecode as long as you have turned timecode on in RØDE Central. You don't need to choose a "timecode mode", timecode just needs to be on.
      The reciever will send timecode to the transmitter this way, and once it's started, if the reciever is disconnected and turned off, the transmitters will continue to "free run" timecode.
      If the reciever is turned on again, the reciever will resync with the transmitters. The timecode in the transmitters will be less accurate than in the recievers, so it's best to keep your reciever on, but if you lose connection, it's not the end of the world.

    • @KayakFishingAddict

Where I feel Rode fell down was in their initial marketing and showing Jam Syncing to a Camera and then allowing the camera to take over, that was always going to fail and no one does that unless the camera in question has it own TCCO.

    I think it’s shocking that RØDE are politely debunking the negative videos from people who haven’t even used the system. That’s just spoiling the fun! 😂
    I guess my humour didn’t get through to some. From replies it seems people are expecting from RØDE way too much for a $399 system. To have timecode AND dual output from the receiver is a massive ask. I can’t think of a single product that does anything like this. If they will be able to add timecode output via the USB C then great BUT then you are running into power issues. With a max 7 hour of battery life that not going to last a full day shooting without topping up…how do you do that whilst using it? The USB-C port.
    What’s important is this slots into existing timecode systems from Tentacle and deity, that’s super important. It’s not another timecode system to buy into like the Ultrasync system from Atomos which has stopped me from using timecode alongside the others with some of my Zoom products.

      Unfortunately though Philip many of us have read the full manual which has been released and it critically is missing the most basic of required feature, full time isolated audio output as expected from a wireless receiver while also outputting its LTC. It can’t do both and as you know, just occasionally jamming a camera’s internal clock isn’t a proper timecode workflow or recipe for actual accurate timecode on set.

      @@philipbloom it actually supports full audio input and output over the USB-C connector and even has a bunch of dual output modes that get close but not exactly what should be the basic mode need. We obviously would want channels 1/2 isolated and with full normal controls on the TRRS connector, plus an LTC signal on either of the USB outputs. Timecode mode 5 is the closest with a merged headphone output (I has really hoped it was isolated headphone but it’s not) on the TRRS and a merged mic level signal on the left USB channel and mic level LTC on the right USB channel. It’s so close and yet so far with not one mode giving us a non-merged 1/2 audio signal in addition to the LTC signal.

      @@TheTechnoPilotyou do realise this is the first firmware for it? There will be lots of big improvements within time for sure given their history. You are being too harsh mate and expecting way too much, especially at this price point. Ryan even hints at the receiver being able to accept timecode jamming in the future so who knows what else they will be able to do.
      I for one saw that I clearly had to make a choice when using it for timecode output or audio output. I could do both with caveats using audio timecode if needed.
      Please tell me if there is any wireless receiver that even gives you the option to output timecode. I see this as start of new product line from then and i am pretty sure we will see standalone timecode boxes from them to slot into the system which is of course the way I would expect any timecode system to work cameras with dedicated timecode ports. I use both the Tentacle and Deity systems and each of those individual time codes boxes will work with the RØDE system from day 1 if you are already using them. One question, would it be possible to use two receivers simultaneously with one or two transmitters and have the time code on the receivers synced? This would be grate for multi camera setup.

    • @rodemic
      @rodemic  11 місяців тому

      You'll still need to manually sync your files, but they will roughly be in the right place on your timeline.

      Hey @Roypost, if you'd like to use more than three mics, you won't be able to sync them with timecode. You could use VXLRs and SC11s to record them into a multitrack recorder like a RØDECaster PRO, you could manually sync them using a clap or similar, or you could use a computer and RØDE Connect to record them all at the same time.

    Will there be a drift if you jam sync this timecode to a deity TC-1 or tentacle sync after 4 hours? Or after 24 / 72 hours. That's the big question for me.
    If the Rode Timecode is just ok for 4 hours it's better than the internal on most mirrorless cams but worse (with risk of drift on any shoots past 3-4 hours) than the TC-1and Tentacle syncs

    • @rodemic
      @rodemic  11 місяців тому +1

      The Wireless PRO has a clock accuracy of 0.5PPM (parts per million). This very accurate clock is matches those used in other professional timecode systems. So the amount of drift you'll experience will really depend on the other devices in your setup and how accurate they are.
      Other professional devices with accurate clocks like the Wireless PRO will remain in sync for a whole day. Devices with less accurate clocks will drift sooner- this depends entirely on the device being used. If your device exhibits more drift, then you can either re-jam more often, or re-sync things on the timeline as necessary in post production.

    • @Whaever_1981
      @Whaever_1981 11 місяців тому +1

      That is great news. Thank you so much for clarifying that. I would recommend you let those who review your products to make sure to underscore this 0.5PPM accuracy. Also, I would clarify this in your upcoming videos, marketing pics etc.
      The way I (and mos) understood it until now is that the 4 hour re-syncing issue has to do with Rode Wireless Pro's clock and not the mirrorless cameras, etc that don't have reliable TC. I'm seriously considering your device now.
      Also, seriously hoping we'll be able to sync the wireless pro to external TC (Tentacle, Deity, etc) @@rodemic

      Not sure what you mean by skeptics. What I’ve seen is many professionals who are already used to working in a timecode driven set voicing serious concerns around who Rode has implemented timecode, both as demonstrated in their view and from reading the fully released manual. Rode addressed a couple of the less serious concerns (though somewhat still show stopper concerns) like external jam sync here, but completely ignored even larger such as the need for both full audio output AND separate full time LTC output for any scenario that involved jam syncing to a camera.

      Hey @christobella, as long as you enable the 'timecode' setting on your Wireless PRO (via RØDE Central) and begin recording on your transmitters while they're both paired to the receiver, your on-board recordings will have timecode information striped to their metadata. This means that you can use the 'split' mode on the receiver's 3.5mm output to capture stereo audio to your camera while still having your on-board recordings contain timecode information.

    • @christobella
      @christobella 11 місяців тому

    As some people have already shown, once the Wireless Pro RX is removed, most cameras begin to drift off the master timecode almost immediately.
    My question is this: have you found that cameras which have a dedicated BNC timecode port (which would require a 3.5mm out to BNC in cable, something you should make for this piece of kit) retain the jam sync timecode more accurately? Or is that a function of each camera and its internal generator, not whether the timecode was synced over BNC or 3.5mm?

    • @Northpaal
      @Northpaal 11 місяців тому +1

      Yes to your last question. How well the camera holds on to the time code has nothing to do with the røde pro’s. It’s based on the cameras and how much they drift over time. On the production I’m working on now they use Sony FX6’s and we only sync the one on the crane with another cameras tc box and unplug it again. Works fine for a couple of hours, but this is why it is important to do tc checks often. We do that even with systems like ambient where everyone has a dedicated box. It’s actually very common.

    • @spdcrzy
      @spdcrzy 11 місяців тому +1

      @@Northpaal the example I was referring to was a trio of BMPCC's that were drifting off by multiple frames within MINUTES of being synced. It seemed like an extreme, but not implausible version of the effect, used to demonstrate why jam syncing and unplugging isn't always ideal. But yes, that does make sense.

    • @scottemerton
      @scottemerton 11 місяців тому +2

      @@spdcrzy I think we saw the same example and it was just filming the back of the camera displays, which is really just a guide... I did this same test myself with three BMD pockets, jam syncing them one by one and if you took a photo of the timecode on the camera next to the timecode device display it LOOKS like it's out (just as it did in the UA-cam video), but if you actually RECORD footage it's fine and syncs perfectly. But as @northpaal says above, it's down to the camera - some drift more than others.

    But as i can tell, its not possible to sync those regular Sony mirrorless cameras if you have more than one = you want to sync them. Becauce talents have both mics and only one receiver can output timecode to only one camera via one channel… and second or third (sorry) question is if timecode “sound” bleeds into second scratch audio channel via audio jack too.

    • @rodemic
      @rodemic  11 місяців тому

      Hey there, the reciever sends timecode signal to the transmitters wirelessly, but if the transmitters go out of range, they will continue to "free run" timecode until they reconnect to the reciever, at which point, they units will resync. So yes, timecode will continue to work if you go out of range.
