I moved from the insane state of California to eastern Idaho. I can say there's no white supremacy here. Lots of Mormons, but they are nice people. What I noticed most upon arrival was how friendly the people are here.

Agree. We're legal US immigrants. I lived in several countries and over a dozen US states. Although Idaho isn't perfect, it is about the best place we've lived.
I've heard this from several people. If your car breaks down, about the first car will pull over to see if you need help. But not so in ADA Country, which has become very "progressive".

I am truly mystified by the idea that people think authoritarianism will work out better for them than Democracy. Authoritarianism is defined by the idea that everything is for the One or few at the top at the expense of everyone else. I get that they are disappointed by how our democracy is currently working out but giving it up is not going to work out for them. They need to get involved.

Even before the 80s there was the John Birch Society creeping into Idaho and the LDS Church promoted the literature during the civil rights movement. They still reinforced the "one drop rule" in the D&C.

We are divided by our raging prejudices, greed, disrespect, lack of skill for genuine critical thinking, and monstrous egos of infants (sorry there, real infants). These are all lacks of spiritual qualities that nothing but spiritual healing and genuine search for truth can resolve. Broken political systems ain't the answer. Every human being is precious and has gifts to give humanity, regardless of shortcomings, and must be loved and nurtured on how to care for all of mankind and our earth home. Violence and repression are also not the answer. Unity and justice are. The nation state that looks only to its own interests and damned be the rest of the world is a dying and insufficient entity to meet the needs of a world entering its stage of maturity, the unity of the human race. To survive, we must broaden our vision and act accordingly.

But today we look at the history of the two party's. Democrats= KKK birth of a nation. Republicans= Anti-slave founded by John Brown types. Never the less privileged white leftist so-called liberals have tried for decades to slander Idaho and it working class people. hopefully the holds a wonderful future for all human beings of earth.

Idaho is basically a ‘sweat’ state. We have always had to work for our living here. That makes us suspicious of outsiders trying to rob us of our independence! We value our independence over materialism. Being poor is not a sin to us, laziness is! Yes, we are a dying breed! We are being kicked off our land and our water is being repurposed to people who have moved here to get away from the insanity of where they come from. Our sanity has been anchored by spiritual absolutes on a personal level and that makes friendly people but there is a limit to that. If folks bring their confusion with them, independence and individuality are doomed. Isn’t that what democracy is all about? ❤

I love what you said Scot at 11:42 that people are loosing faith in the nation state. We've seen the nation state become, essentially, the wholly-owned subsidiary of corporations and immense wealth holders. The nation state does their bidding.
The US will coup any country that it can -- and has done so numerous times, to make more favorable conditions for American businesses (read exploitation and extraction). Those who directly run the nation state, politicians, have enriched themselves while making those they serve even more obscene wealth. Yes, the nation state is an antiquated institution -- or at least it needs a larger more encompassing people-driven oversight.

I'm the grandkid of the proprietor you interviewed for the video, and I can attest to a lot of what you were saying here. It's never really felt that there's another option here than this extreme Republican train of thought ever since I was old enough to follow politics. This has especially been the case since the pandemic, when white, cishet, conservative Christians from California, Washington, and other states fled to Idaho to avoid pandemic restrictions and liberal politics. It's felt like the government has just gotten so much more extreme these past few years (and don't even get me started on Ammon Bundy and Janice McGeachin, who both tried to take the governorship last election.) Despite the new growth, the government still doesn't do anything for the people. For instance, instead of ensuring that school professionals have the knowledge and funding to help their students, our government prioritized forcing schools to ban anything that could be remotely gay and threaten any teacher that dared to use a student's preferred pronouns. Great priorities there, Idaho. I was indeed one of the people who felt that change just wasn't possible (even through elections and the like), and I ended up working my butt off to leave because of that. Moving to LA for college (not gonna say which one to avoid doxxing myself) has definitely shown me the extent of just how foreign these parts of our own country are to city folk. I feel that it is possible to reorient this anger in a positive direction (i.e. at the corporate interests that have hijacked the government), but I am just unsure how to do it or how practically one could do it.
(P.S. Idaho is actually experiencing net-positive migration due to those white Christians I mentioned earlier.)

09:04 "Democracy the verb" I love it :) Yes, we need democracy in our lives, like the work place, the family, schools. Yes, it's messy, yes, it takes longer, but it is also where we must practice democracy. We want and we need agency over our lives. Once every two to four years is NOT democracy.
How can you expect authoritarianism NOT to be appealing to people when that is the structure of most of our institutions: the military, the family, education, employment -- those are ALL hierarchical structures (currently). That is the only thing we practice with any real consistency.

Florida and Texas dominate Republican Party politics. California and New York do exactly the same thing for the Democratic Party. The four largest states. North Dakota does not have nearly as much effect on national politics as y'all imagine.

"Race" is a social construct; it has NO biological foundation. Yes, there is virtually infinite genetic diversity within the human species -- that's a plus. Diversity fosters robustness in a biological system and it is wise to celebrate and incentivize such diversity.

So many understandings here are on target, but we need to understand that our system is inadequate to meet the needs of a world transitioning to a state of recognition of the reality of the oneness of humanity, all of humanity, not just USAans to survive. Farmers, not big AG, are key to our survival, though they will need to change the way they farm to counter the effects of climate degradation. Fundamental to significant change going forward is to realize our challenges are spiritual in nature and that is key in being able to significantly meet the crying needs of humanity and develop systems to reflect addressing those needs.
